Eagles Leaders Step Forward To Downplay Cooper-Williams Fight

CaryWilliams&RileyCooper3A number of Eagles players stepped forward aggressively and they refused to let the fight between Riley Cooper and Cary Williams stir back up the N-Word talk, and possibly overwhelm their preparation for the game against the Redskins.  Team leaders like Michael Vick, DeSean Jackson and LeSean McCoy made it a point to downplay the fight and its possible connection to Cooper’s use of the N-Word this summer.

A number of journalists characterized yesterday’s fight as proof of a simmering unrest on the football team from Cooper’s use of the N-Word at the Kenny Chesney concert, rather than just another practice fight between two teammates.

Williams, the cornerback who never saw a fight he wasn’t ready to have, poured gasoline on the Cooper controversy fire at the end of the altercation when yelled at Cooper, “I’m not a N-Word you [mess] with.”

“Just one-on-one’s, both being just super competitive, we’re going for the ball,” Cooper said after the workout. “We had a tangle-up at the ball and just being competitive.

“We both went to the ground. There was a lot of contact at the top of the route. I mean, nothing happened. It was nothing.”

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick who helped break up the fight on the field, downplayed the whole thing by saying Williams is an angry teammate, whom everybody on the team loves including Cooper.

McCoy said everything that goes on with Cooper and his teammates is back to normal since the controversy this summer.  He said he sees Cooper as a good guy again and didn’t think the fight with Williams was a big deal.

Jackson characterized the fight as nothing but two aggressive teammates competing.  He said it’s not the time for teammates to getting against each other with the first game of the season so close.  The speedy wide out said if anybody still had a problem with Cooper’s use of the N-Word this summer they need to work it out with him.

Nobody on the squad expressed concern that there was a problem simmering beneath the surface because of what Cooper had said at the Chesney concert. You can tell that Vick, Jackson and McCoy are protecting the football team.

“I don’t think it’s an issue,” said defensive end Cedric Thornton, whose locker happens to be beside Cooper’s. “I think he made a mistake. People make mistakes. He apologized and it’s over with.”

In seven career starts against the Redskins, Vick is 76-for-123 (62 percent) for 1,081 yards, with 10 touchdowns and two interceptions for a 110.5 passer rating — highest ever against the Redskins. He also has 226 rushing yards on 34 carries in those seven games, a 6.7 average.

No doubt that Vick has Played very well vs the Redskins and will need to do so Monday night.. He gets pumped playing them and I would not be surprised to see him have a strong game going head to head with RGIII to show him he still has “Game”.. Now whether this is enough for Eagles to Win, who knows, but National TV Game at their Place.. I expect nothing less from Vick, but he has to play smart, especially early on in the game as both Teams get their legs and settled under them..

In two of those games he was a combined 44 of 67 (66%) for 668 and 7 tds

In the other 5 games he was 32 for 56 (57%) for 413 (less than 100/game) and 3 tds

And BTW – the first game was when they were in complete disarray and did not even attempting to try (just youtube Haynsworth lies down), while the other came against a Rex Grossman led 5 win team who was going thru the motions in the last game of their miserable season.

So lets calm down on the “Vick is awesome against the Redskins” talk. He’s had 2 good games against them…both when they weren’t trying…..

A few more days and you can breath your sigh of reliev and ealsily drift back into your delusional “Vick is a good QB” dreamworld.

Where every disaster will be examined through the tainted rose coloured never Vick’s fault glasses you Vick-believers continue to wear 24/7.

No one to offer a sober second thought contradict the always effusive and always overly “Vick is great against….Vick is great when….Vick is great as long as…Vick will be great if….” statements either never come true, or have any actual basis for being stated in the first place (like the ‘Vick is great against the Skins” garbage above)

But don’t worry….eventually, the avalanche of evidence will overwhelm the two of you also.

“6-1 against WSH”

Exactly. Doesn’t show stats against the NFC East teams either.

Look…if we handle out divisional rivals we could end this year in the 9-10 wins column…WAS defense isn’t that great so I think we can light them up – the catch is our defense isn’t that great so they can likely light us up.

The game is gonna come down to whose defense sucks the least.

LOL

Your Vickaggerations know no bounds.

6 and 1

1st appearance – win
He was a solid 8 of 16 for 122 and 2 tds as Jason Campbell decided to play give away

2nd appearance
Vick came in and threw 1 pass. But you guys would give him the “win”

3rd appearance
Vick was 0 for 1. But you guys give him the “win”

4th appearance…5 or 9 in a loss

5th appearance – the famous MNF game win There. He’s played one good game.

6th appearance
Vick 18 of 31 for 230 1 and 1….only 20 points…..they won because Grossman is the 3rd worst QB of all time and barfed up 4 ints

7th appearance
Vick…a very solid appearance in the last game against a pathetic grossman led disaster of a teamRedskins team that was on the bus.

There you go….2 solid performances….both agains Skins teams that had given up before the opening whistle.

But go ahead…keep touting 6 and 1.

Why not? the stat line you gave above (shown below) incorporates the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th appearances..So its ok if you do it, to try and prove your point? right? So if you take out the

As per Vinnie…
“In the other 5 games he was 32 for 56 (57%) for 413 (less than 100/game) and 3 tds”

you get an undefeated record…..

you even mention he threw 100 yds a game in 5 games? knowing he only passed 2 times in 2 games and 9 in the the 3rd….hahaha…you are hilarious…you can use stats that aren’t completely true but when another person does it uh oh…that’s a problem…

So remove the games he didn’t contribute as a starter would and what do you get? 4-0? undefeated as a starter against WSH?

Maybe being a part of Virginia Tech, Vick was a huge fan of the skins and wished he was picked up by the skins as they are probably the closest team to there state, so vick just proves it or maybe he just likes to light up some teams more then others he does even if we have lost some Divisional games he does have there Numbers to he knows how to beat the Divison. The only team he has a losing record to is the team he is currently on when he use to face the eagles in Atlanta.

Funny how you start your post off throwing some hate…and then try to distance yourself…..put yourself above it all , and call for everyone to hold off on the hate for a few weeks.

I used to have some respect for you Rev, not so much anymore.

Too many on here are only focused on their favorite players, or just fighting with other fans. We have finally gotten rid of a coach who has put this team in a gigantic hole based on personel decisions and poor drafts over the past 5-6 years. We have a new coach and new staff, a new offensive and defensive system to watch, but most of you guys want to argue pathetic hypothetical statements about future match-ups. No one seems actually excited for the start of this historic season, they would rather fight about the QB or a scrimish on the practice field.

I see it on other blogs, fans who are excited about Kelly and the start of the new season, but here it is the same old same old. I can name a dozen guys (or maybe they were actually girls, we really never know) who used to provide alot of football talk…guys that i would rarely agree with… in fact guys I would argue with the likes of Schiller, Reggio, Navy and too many to mention who no longer come around….but they were able to make an arguement about the game, the plays and the team.

Now it is too simple to see how a comment will run….do I really have to say that there seem to be 2 seperate groups on here? Fans of the team and fans of a player or a few players? This is probably a waste of time I guess.

With the start of the season a few days away, I figured this is as good a time as every to make a statement. I am a fan of the Philadelphia EAGLES….I like the players, but only really care about the success of the team…..cliche, but it is the name on the front that I cheer for, not the one on the back…..I have been a fan for decades and decades and decades…I will watch this team every week, regardless of their win and loss record….I even watch the 4th qtr of preseason games because it is the Eagles….

So long story short…there is alot of energy on this site that supposed Eagles fans throw at each other everyday….can we at least all get behind OUR TEAM and show some positive excitement about a new era? I have my doubts, but know that come Monday night at 6:55 (who came up with that time anyway??) I will be wearing my Dawk jersey and waiting to see the show these guys will put on…how about you?

So its ok to look for something “to build this D around next season” That’s ok.

But hope to do the same at the QB position and its hater time.

Ok to hope to build young players on D, but the same at the most important position?? No way, we LOVE our mediocre fading former superstar because right at this moment for 19 snaps in the preseason he was better. And if you say or hope different you are a racist hater.

No one said anything about love. Ive told you how i feel. No one here says hes great. No one here said hes a superstar.. just you. The difference is… he won the job. He’s the best qb we have. That may suck. He may even be the worst starting QB in the NFL but guess what… he’s the best we have on our team. Period.

You cry for Foles because he gives you “HOPE” and then say its us grasping at straws. amazing.

If we have the worst QB in the league (and I don’t think we do…just bottom 10, maybe 15)

Then the only logical position is to hope that one of the kids play to find out if they are better than the mediocrity we have there now.
Believing FOles, or Barkley gives hope is not grasping, its logical when you know that the 33 yr old never-was currently manning the position is useless. Especially long term.

Are jets fans grasping at straws hoping for Geno? Because Sanchez has many more playoff accomplishments than Vick.

Are Bills fans grasping at straws hoping for Manuel? Because Kolb has the same winning percentage as Vick over the past 3 years.

Its not grasping at straws when you know the incumbent is a POS QB. Its just knowing that the backup cannot be worse, but has the potential to be better, so that’s the direction the team should move….towards hope……not back towards “this will be the year” pipedreams that have failed over and over and over before.

YAY – Vick was a little better than the guy who has 6 starts. What a freekin’ surprise……that he was a little better (and it was only a little) than the kid tells us all we need to know about why MV7 should not be the QB.

Stevo
Stevo
September 7, 2013 3:31 pm

so… your theory is to play one of the others because MAYBE they will some day be better than Vick. Meanwhile… the guy who gives us the best chance sits. stupid.

The Jests drafted this guy early… and it seems that he is at lease the same as Sanchez… ,maybe even better. Had Sanchez lit it up in the preseason like Vick did, he would be the starter when he got healthy.

Manuel is the best the bills have right now. Your poster boy was brought in to compete and well… we know how that story ends.. it always ends that way for him.

When Chip came here he watched the video.. over and over he watched and said that much of the problems were because of the crap we had on the Oline- now… I dont fully agree… i think part of it was Vick but… Chip knows what we have at QB and he is going with Vick.

Cant you see your pure hate for this man has tainted everything you see? Now…. because of that hate you have less than 2 days to write on this site.

And your comment was “YAY, Vick was a little better than the guy with 6 starts”. No vinnie…. thats wrong. Im sorry but you are very very wrong. Vick was MUCH MUCH better. Vick made the choice easy. I wish he didnt but he did. Vick was one of the better QB’s in preseason. Now… its only preseason so… who cares? But point is…. Foles was given the chance to earn the starting spot and he failed to do so.

It has nothing to do with the owner like your twin Jake says… it has nothing to do with his color… it has nothing to do with last year… it has nothing to do with sideways hats…. it has EVERYTHING to do with his play on the field and in practice over the course of the preseason. He earned it. Stop crying!! And now….. be GONE!!!

Always with the exaggeration. Always with the Hype. Why is it always the case with Mike VIck.

“Vick was MUCH MUCH better. Vick made the choice easy. I wish he didnt but he did. Vick was one of the better QB’s in preseason”

Vick was 21st in passer rating, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

He threw 2 tds and 2 ints in 38 atts.

Just for comparison, Luck was 4 and 1 in 44 atts, Brady 2 and 0 in 44 atts, Brees 2 and 0 in 34 atts, Tannehill 3 and 0 in 56 atts, Bradford 2 and 0 in 36 atts, Kap 2 and 0 in 23 ats, Manuel 2 and 0 in 33 atts….

so where does this “best in the preseason come from??”

Hyperbole as always.

Oh, but Ponder through 2 tds and 2 ints in 36 atts just like Vick….that’s the company he keeps.

Haha stevo , Lurie made the call for Vick to start over kolb, and he made the decision to bring Vick back this year, which all but guaranteed his starter role, so just deal with reality for a change, I bet Lurie also told Reid to draft mcnabb, and mcnabb made Lurie millions of dollars but the most overrated qb in nfl history , but that money grubber Lurie laughs his ass off while fools like you say that mcnabb, Vick, are the better choices, meanwhile we are laughing our asses off.

Id take McNabb over kolb, vick, foles anyday. Im not a fan of our qb’s after he left. I realize he’s gone off the deep end since then but…. i still am thankful for what he gave us. I honestly just don’t understand any of this. Just from my personal experience:

When ANYONE is in front of you that get’s you mad enough to where you are about to fist fight, the name calling begins. You are mad enough not to think, just wanting to belittle the person in front of you. Name Calling begins:

Country person = Red…K
Glasses = 4 eyes
Pimple face = Pimple face ugly Mf…..
Black = N……….
Hispanic = wet…….
White = anything you can see that is out of place
Indian = some Famous Western character
etc etc

It’s not Race(in most cases), It’s Rage. your mouth is going and your ready to come to blows. Electronics today just capture everything and National Media has to make money. Reason I don’t watch the news anymore! now it’s getting to where I don’t want to watch sportcenter or read up on my Team.

Some Eagles players want to ignore the elephant in the room when Riley Cooper shows up while others aren’t that forgiving and it’s not going to end just because some people want to stick their thumbs in their ears. Opposing defenses aren’t going to forget about it. I’m glad the Eagles kept Greg Salas and I hope they open a spot on the practice squad for Momah Copper may find himself on IR before too long.
