I don’t agree with NBC's Keith Olbermann that the NFL or the Eagles should step in and help Andy and Tammy Reid and their family. I don't think it is necessary or the responsibility of either group to step in and assist.
I think this is Andy and Tammy Reid’s problem to deal with. Whether he steps away from the team, which he may have to do in order to make sure his other three kids remain on a straight path is up to him. He is the one who has to live with these decisions when his now convicted drug addict sons are released from prison and become older men.
How are they going to look back on the years that dad was in the office for 18+ hours a day and not there setting good examples on how to be responsible members of society. The key word here is responsible. We have to remember that these two are adults and a great deal of accountability has to be given to Britt and Garrett. There’s only so much that can be done by the parents when the two of them seem inclined to do whatever they want. Someone who is smuggling nearly 100 pills into jail, has a problem much larger than can be fixed by mom or dad spending extra time with them.
However, on the flip side it does appear that Andy and Tammy were possibly enabling this type of activity by their sons. Did these two have any responsibilities that would’ve possibly curtailed them from acting in the manner they have. I’m a believer that if the two had their own house/apartment, a job, bills and so on they would not be participating in the activities that has led them into their current position.
I read the press release today of the search of the prison cell of Garrett and the events of his latest arrest while on a visit to his Parole Officer. It is documented that Garrett got into an argument with Mrs. Reid’s assistant while driving to the P.O.’s office. I’m assuming here that it was left up to the assistant to take Garrett to the appointment, not his parents. Garrett turned the vehicle around when he saw a police officer was at the office so he could retrieve the pills because he essentially knew the officer was there for him and would be taking him back to jail.
If Mrs. Reid or Andy were there to perform this task as a responsible parent should, perhaps he would not have gone back home for the pills and wouldn’t be facing even more time behind bars. This has turned into a complete fiasco and one that none of us would have any idea was happening if these were poor or underprivileged men. It’s a shame and I don’t wish it on anyone, but at least Andy knows where they will be for the next 6+ months. Finally there is some consistency from Big Red.
I appreciate this forum you have for the fans G and I would love to hear what other people think.
