Michael Vick Is Making A Mistake By Sprinting On Friday

MichaelVick3Eagles quarterback Michael Vick told reporters today that he’s going to run 100 yards as fast as he can tomorrow and I think that’s a major mistake.  It could end his season.  If you push a hamstring, it could damage it to the point where we don’t see Vick again this season.

“I’m ready to do it”, Vick said. “I’m ready to get it out if the way. I really want to go out there and sprint and run.”

He should back off his hamstring, until game time.  I think he should continue to push it, but you back off if there’s any discomfort.  Why push it to the limit before you have to do so?

Those additional 48-hours of recuperation could be the difference in returning successfully or re-injuring it.   The Eagles trainers shouldn’t allow him to run a 100-yard sprint two days before the game.

Why should he be running as fast as he can on Friday?  Did they move the game time up a couple of days?  The game isn’t on Friday, the game is on Sunday.

What if he runs as fast as he can on Friday, but that work messes him up for Sunday and at game time, his hamstring is tight and sore?  If that happens they need to think about letting the trainer go, if he okays that foolishness.

Vick even admits that he’s concerned about the 100-yard sprint.  There’s no wisdom in him deciding to push things to the limit before the game.  Running 100 yards is also foolish because he might get in the game and never have to take off on a run as fast as he can.  If that happens then he has another full week to let his hamstring recover.

What if the Eagles running game is working great and the receivers are wide open all-game long and he never has to run all out?  What if the game starts with a defensive touchdown for the Eagles, along with a special teams turnover for the Birds and they’re up by 14-0 before you know it with LeSean McCoy having a big day?

His goal is not to run a 100-yard sprint or if it is, it shouldn’t be.  The goal for Vick should be, for him to be ready to lead the Birds to their fourth victory of the season on Sunday.

Vick has to run Friday, because HE has to know.

He has to know if he can run, because its all he has, and he knows it.

He knows he can’t cut it as a pocket passer, so he wants to find out if he can run around like he usually does. Simple as that.

He twings that thing and he’ll sit out another week, because he knows deep down that if he goes in there as a pocket passer he’ll be looking at 30%, 2 ints and worst of all about 11 sacks taken. That’ll hurt his $$ for next year. Can’t have that!

Guy is scared to play without his running ability because even he knows he’s a one-trick pony.

Vick is a mental midget.

He should run his idea by his brother Marcus and get his genius opinion.

Can’t wait until 2014 when Vick is gone.

E-Money, why is Vick a mental midget. I hear hate and I like to know why?
It is only football! I have been an Eagles fan since 1968. I have seen it all. As a football player Vick is very smart. His brother on the other hand has some issues. We all knew going into the season that this was not a championship team. If they make 500 this year it would be great. Reality check E slow down smell the roses. Vick will be our quarterback until someone can beat him out. That quarterback is not on the team yet.

1) refusing to slide
2) running 100 meter dash on Friday when we need him Sunday
3) running a multi-state dog fighting ring

Instead of making a list, check out this section of his Wikipedia page
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Vick#Early_controversies_and_crimes

I don’t remember too many of the greats like Montana and Young and Marino having as many boneheaded issues as this guy.

As far as being smart on the field, you’re wrong. How many times has he run around in the backfield only to finally step out of bounds BEHIND the line of scrimmage, resulting in a QB sack and a loss of yards. How hard it it to throw the ball out of bounds right before you step out of bounds?

And while I agree he’s probably the best of this crappy crop of quarterbacks, we need to find out if Foles or Barkley can start or be a backup for this team’s future.
Vick has no future with this team.

No hate, just disappointment. I really pulled for the guy when he replaced Kevin Kolb. I thought Vick had finally pieced it together in 2010, he played great and he was a great leader. But since 2010, he’s been a huge disappointment. I hold no hatred or anger towards the guy, I actually think he’s done a tremendous job of reinventing himself from the talented but lazy player he was in Atlanta to a hard-working leader.
But I’m ready to move on now and I think we need to see if the other 2 guys can play.

E-money…Had to track you down. Very poignant comment you made about “if Vick was caucasian.” I could not agree with you more. This whole debate becomes so emotionally charged because Vick fans cannot seperate the miscarriage of justice from the play on the field. If you want to pull for the guy because the feds screwed him, I am fine with that. He got 18 months for an offense that would usually be probation. And a lot of that has to do with being black and a huge star. And AAs are victims of a biased justice system all too often. But this has nothing to do with his ability as a QB and the emotion needs to come out of it. All of the sudden when you say the guy is an average QB he is MLK and people rally. He has become a very symbolic figure and it makes the debate just go crazy with emotions. Let me say 1) the guy should not have done time. 2) He should have been suspended for a year by the NFL even if he didn;t get time because Goodell will not have that behavior stain the brand. He sees what this behavior has done to tarnish the NBA brand and don’t think for a minute this is one of the reasons he is so tough (unless your a Steeler). 3) All that aside, Vick has never really put it all together. The numbers and the wins do not match the ability. He is pretty average and aside from video games is a disappointing number one overall pick. Most of all its time for the Eagles to move on. I am first and foremost an Eagle fan and wanted Vick to have all the success in the world, but its not going to happen and now I want to turn the page and try to get someone better.

Yep. The dog fighting thing wasn’t a big deal to me (I’m not an animal lover), the bigger deal to me is that it showed a continued pattern of bad decision making by Vick. I think he learned a ton from the experience, I think he’s a good person, and I think he’s turned into a good leader.
But that being said, he’s undersized and not accurate enough to be a great passer. He holds the ball too long (like McNabb). He turns the ball over a ton. He doesn’t seem comfortable throwing to a spot, he has to wait for the receiver to be open. He steps out of bounds behind the line of scrimmage often when he could simply underhand the ball out of bounds the instant before he steps out. He gets hurt often because he plays every play like it’s the most important play ever. He’s had very little playoff success (2 wins) in his career.
I can understand African Americans wanting him to win, there is a certain pride that comes from one of your own succeeding. I’m of Irish dependency, I might root for an Irish American Quarterback to succeed. But I wouldn’t fool myself into thinking the Irish American QB was something special if he turned the ball over as much as Vick, or was hurt as often as Vick because he was too proud to slide, or if his winning percentage was similar to Vick.

I think he should give the leg the extra 2 days of rest before the game. Many people on here have probably had hamstring pulls, including myself. The one thing I experienced is that you can be feeling better, everything looks good, and you make one sudden movement and you are back at square one. No doubt that MV knows his body, and if he is doing this sprint without the consent of the training group, well that is stupid. I am sure that he is not doing this sprint test without the consent of the coaches and training staff, but I still would like to see the extra 2 days of rest. Since we are at Friday, even if he blows the hamstring out again during the sprint test, there is little time for Barkley to get any reps in. That is the scarey thing, if MV’s hamstring does not hold out, we are looking at a long day and weeks to come with Foles out also and Barkley our only QB…….anyone say Brett Farve??? Just kidding.

That’s pathetic.

He has to run a 100 yard dash to see if he can play.

We do not have a quarterback in MV. We have a RB who can throw.

You know, if he had switched to scatback back in 2001, I bet he could have had a hall of fame career, catching passes out of the backfield and returning punts.

Compeite Idiocy shown be HC Kelly and VIck the last couple of Weeks..
I have never heard or read so much hoopla about a 3 Week old Hamstring..
Play Vick because they have no other Options, FOles will be out at least 1 and possibly 2 Weeks as mandated by the NFL on Cucussions.. We all kew that since Sunday as we all know that Vick is not 100% Yet.. But Can Chip Kelly develop a Game Plan with a 85% healthy Vick who would operate from the Pocket and scrap the Read-Option garbage for a Game . Can’t Vick as a 12 Year Veteran play a game as a Pocket QB since he won’t have his explosive spped and movement.. It’s called making adjustments and sucking it up and doing whats best for the Team.. This entire Week charade has been an ebarrasment and is showing me that Kelly is not a NFL Coach and just gives the impression of a “built-in excuses” for when his Offense/Game PLan doesn’t perform well .. Make the Adjustments CHip, this is what your paid the big bucks for … Why Push VIck on a Friday, makes no sense.. The game is 48 Hours Away, why give any edge to your opponents or worse, have VIck reinjure or pull something in a meaningless Sprint on Friday.
Chip Kelly is showing more and more to me that he is unfit for the NFL…

All this QB stuff is moot anyway. Unless they get more consistency from the O line and the defense continues to improve, they have no shot at doing anything other than screwing up their draft position. And they need to see these other two QBs anyway because they probably will not be able to get a first round QB next year unless they are willing to give up first round picks in 15 and 16. And even then why would the Vikings (for example) take picks over a franchise QB??

That being said, as I have been overseas, I have no idea about any of the QBs coming out. I do know that over 50% of them will fail.

I pray they go with a pocket passer, because all the rules in the NFL now favour the pocket passer.

I heard he ran fine, but just to be sure, tomorrow he’s setting up hurdles…

Let’s please stop this futile debate ….Vick is our guy and that won’t change until we get another QB who can actually run this offense.

One day Chip will get that guy but until then we should push all our chips behind the guys who will play starting this weekend.

Hopefully we get on a roll and get this division.

Go Eagles!!!!

Yup. And if he thinks foles is the guy… fine. But he hasnt said that yet. do people really want to run the coach out of town because he doesn’t think the 3rd round pick is the answer to all the quarterback problems?

You will see Luck and Wilson’s rushing totals diminish every year over their careers. They are learning to become successful qbs.

You will never hear them announce, like our RBI, I mean qb, that they think then can run for 1000 yards in a new offence.

They understand if that happens they are FAILING at their job.

Meanwhile our RB thinks its a badge of honour.

Mobile qbs good. Running qbs bad.

We have a running qb.

Um..Luck is on pace to have MORE rushing yards this year than last. You however continue to show how much of an idiot you are.

You are comparing Luck to Vick in terms of their running and I am an idiot??

It must really bother you when a first round non-running QB actually lives up to his draft status, while your hero has middled around in mediocrity, never living up to his draft status.

Compensating for his pathetic QBing skills by scrambling around like an idiom 8x a game.

And now you are somehow trying to…… fuck I don’t know what you’re trying to do….somehow justify MV7wins stupid running by saying Luck also runs??????????????

Maybe he runs….but he will run less and less as his career progresses.

Because he is a QB.

Luck is already 2x the QB Vick ever has been. His total number of caries will drop every year – beause he knows good qbs run as little as they can.

He’s already thrown for 6900 yards….he’s almost at 1/3 of Vicks career passing yards in a less than a season and a half!!!

His first year he threw more tds than your hero ever has!!

Luck is a Quarterback that runs.

Vick is a running back that throws

This is the first time in nfl history that a qb has announced he has to run a 100 yard dash in order to play qb.

It’s a historical event, so I am very interested in the result.

Was he able to beat McCoy again?

LOL

You Vick lovers are classic. Make a couple jokes about Vick and his ridiculous 100 yard dash, and you respond with grade 7 level insults.

Its all you got.

100 yard dash!! That shit is funny all on its own.

If I want to watch a 100 yard dash I’ll turn on the Olympics.

Otherwise, I’d prefer to watch real QBs playing in the NFL.
