Notes From The Sixers’ 114-110 Win Over Miami

sixerswillaimsThe Philadelphia 76ers won their first game of the season on Wednesday night, defeating the Miami Heat 114-110 in Philadelphia.

  • Michael Carter-Williams turned heads in his NBA debut, filling the stat sheet with 22 points, 12 assists, 9 steals, and 7 rebounds. The first-round pick with four of his six three-point attempts, and got the line eight times. He also turned the ball over only once. For a rookie making his debut against a team like the Heat, that is a damn impressive performance.
  • MCW’s 9 steals were an NBA record for a player making his NBA debut.
  • Evan Turner and Spencer Hawes also contributed 20-point nights. Turner poured in 26, and took six trips to the line. Hawes shot a tidy 10-14 for 24, and added nine rebounds.
  • Tony Wroten was the team’s most productive bench player, adding 14.
  • Thaddeus Young had 10 points and 6 boards.
  • James Anderson started at shooting guard, and had eight points and six rebounds.
  • The Sixers began the game on a 19-0 run, scoring on their first 12 possessions, and holding the Heat scoreless through the first five minutes.
  • The Heat eventually caught up and took the lead late in the game. However, the Sixers fought back from an eight-point deficit.

Final Thoughts

Let it be known and recognized that the 2013-14 Philadelphia 76ers are undefeated, and were the first to deal a loss to the two-time defending champion Miami Heat.

It was a stunning performance to say the least. Michael Carter-Williams came to play last night, and he turned heads with what he was able to do. The kid was always making big plays at big moments.

This may not be the way the Sixers play every night, but it was a treat to watch this team that is destined to be one of the league’s worst put forth their A-game and upset the Miami Heat, of all teams, in their season debut.

Great start on many fronts
I like how GM Hinkle and Coach are going about rebuilding this Team and Franchise that actually have a plan in place and yes it’s goibg to take some time, but the energy, the hard effort and teamwork
Will win over Fans regardless of their Record
Maybe the 3 other Franchises in Philly can learn something from Hinkle & Brown and that is its not always about the Talent Level of your Rister’s, it’s about Teamwork, sound Fundamentals and having a good system in Place to allow young Players to grow with each other for the improvement of the Team
Good Job 76ers ..

MCW just completely over powered Mario Chalmers. MCW had a plus/minus of +12 to Chalmers minus 14.

Tony Wroten also had a very good game as the 3rd guard, first off the bench. But Lavoy Allen, Daniel Orton and Darius Morris the other bench players ( 76ers played 9 guys yesterday) are not NBA basketball players.
The sixers have zero bench —
Moultrie and Richardson on the IR might be able to provide bench support going forward.

MCW. Great start for the rookie. Wait till these guys get the time and experience of playing together…they still have Nerlins to get healthy and 2 first round picks next year. Sixers fans are long overdue for some success, but they just need to be a little more patient and it looks like good times are on their way. Beating the Heat is too much fun!! And AI retired on the same night, it was nice for the new kid to play so well in front of the “old kid”!

New Orleans lost last night to the Pacers 95-90. Jrue Holliday had an excellent game but Paul George put up 32pt with 10 free throw points. ( that is MVP top five all NBA first team production ) and the sixers took Evan Turner instead in the draft.

If this team gets a one of the super stars from this draft we will have a parade before the decade ends. If MCW and Noel become outstanding young players and we add an Andrew Wiggins to score 30-40 points a night, we have the right coach to win a championship. Andrew Wiggins and 69 million cap space. Free agents will finally want to come here.

Brown needs to develop Turner into a Bowen/Iggy type of role player. He has the right temperment to be a defensive specialist. Otherwise he is not part of the future. He needs to become consistent or pack his bags. This is his last chance in Philly. If he can play to his A game 75% of the time, he could be the 3 on a team with MCW, Wiggins, Noel and star FA PF. I just question whether that line up gives you enough perimeter shooting to go all the way in today’s NBA. You have to drain 3’s now to win a title. The PF needs to be a scorer more so than a banger. More Rasheed Wallace than Kenyon Martin.

I agree about Turner. If he can up his ga me deffensively it would be a huge lift. I am hoping that Anderson can average 15 points or so and shoot a solid percentage. MCW was sure fun to watch. He is gonna have his ups and downs but he has a lot of potential.

bugsy….MCW is so long and Noel is long and athletic. If they live up to potential we are killing people with defense. You have the chance to have two top defenders on the point and the pivot. That disrupts the whole offensive flow. If we can play team defense, we will be a tough out in the playoffs in 2016.

I knew this black hole organization, would find a way, to even screw up a tanking job! BWAHAHAHA!!!! 2-0. In a year, when there is 2-3 franchise changing, possible superstar players coming out, & they decide they want to play hard, & win as many games as they can. I can’t laugh hard enough. My back hurts, with all the laughing! >XD I really wish the new Ownership, would relocate this team. I have seen enough, & am at my wits end with them.

it is fools gold DCar,
Spencer Hawes is playing NBA All Star basketball right now. ( I just looked at his stats) I didn’t watch the Sixers last night chosen to watch Flyers( that was a mistake) but I’ll watch the Sixers on DVR in a couple hours.
Evan Turner’s 2 game stats are unreal, interested NBA teams please make an offer before reality sets in —
I watched the Sixers in the preseason and they couldn’t hit the side of a barn shooting — I don’t know how they managed back to back 100 point games but they won’t score 100 points again all season ( they can’t shoot ) Thad Young put up 29 points last night LOL The thad young i know air balls lay ups.

Hope you are right e0, because we can’t afford, not to get 1 of the 1st 3 picks this year. If we do, it’s another 10+ years of being stuck in the dead zone, of mid level mediocrity, & embarrassment!
