Notes From The Sixers’ 116-102 Loss To Washington

sixerswillaimsThe Philadelphia 76ers lost their second straight game on Wednesday night, falling to the Wizards 116-102. Their record drops to 3-2.

  • Another rough shooting night for Michael Carter-Williams, who connected on just eight of his 21 field goals. MCW finished with 19 points, seven assists, and five rebounds.
  • Evan Turner has been very good through five games. Turner scored 23 points on 9-13 shooting tonight, and has had 20 or more points in four of the team’s five games (and 18 in the other). It may be a small sample, but its nice to see Turner start the year on a high note.
  • While Turner has been pretty good through five, Thaddeus Young continues to struggle. Young had another rough night shooting, connecting on just three of his 11 attempts for seven points.
  • Spencer Hawes had a 20-10 night, finishing with 23 points and 13 boards. Hawes did commit six turnovers, including an ugly pass that John Wall turned into an easy score.
  • James Anderson was able to five the team a decent game, scoring 13.
  • The Sixers got no production from their bench tonight. Tony Wroten, who had been able to score in double figures through the first four games, put up just two points on six shots. The rest of the bench (LaVoy Allen, Darius Morris, Daniel Orton, Hollis Thompson) combined for just 14 points.
  • Philadelphia fell behind early, and spotted the winless Wizards a double-digit lead. They made several small pushes here and there to keep the game competitive, but were unable to catch up.

Final Thoughts

What really promises to make the Sixers a bad team this year isn’t so much the starting five as it is the complete lack of depth on the bench.

Brett Brown stated before the season began that the Sixers have only six NBA caliber players on the roster, and he may not be very far from the truth.

Who on the Sixer bench scares anyone? Tony Wroten? LaVoy Allen? Hollis Thompson?

These are a bunch of guys who would be lucky to be 12th men on any other team.

When Sam Hinkie put this roster together, rest assured that a key element of his plan to tank the season and put the Sixers in a prime position for a top draft pick was assembling one of the worst benches in the league.

Wizard hit 18 3pointers yesterday for 48 points, Golden State hit 15 3 pointers last game for 45 points.
Nik Vucevic had 30 points and 21 rebounds yesterday in a Clipper win. Can you believe this team ruined their franchise for Andrew Bynum when they had a double double guy on the bench sitting behind Lavoy Allen and Spence Hawes?

The Wizards set a franchise record 18 threes. Coach Brown gotta stop the bleeding somehow. It all stems from him not having a post presence that can defend the basket. If we has a Noel in there we already have the team speed to stay with guys and could defend the 3 but obviously we don’t have that paint defender so Coach Brown clogs the middle but like I said he has to find a way to make adjustments..

Who would of known E0S? Doug didn’t play young guys. He’s a control freak, that’s why he burns out by midseason. If you check you’ll see that he now works for espn as a analyst. He needs to remain just that, a analyst..

As for the Sixers, how many points in the paint did the Wizards have? Early on, it seems that Coach Brown has coached his team to guard the paint and not allowing easy buckets and they’ve done an ok job there. Now Coach has to make adjustments so that the team can defend the 3pt line too. MCW had an okay game 8-21 shooting (not so good) 19pts 7as 5rebs only 2 turns (huge for a rookie pg) we need him to keep that up. Spencer Hawes had a good game but those 6 turns are glaring. He has to clean that up. Turner continues his good consistent play. Its a contract year. I still see him and Hawes being traded by the deadline. Good fight from the Sixers but they just have to defend the 3 better..

Vucevic Plays for the Orlando Magic — A Trade that will live in Infamy..
A Double-Double every night for the next 10 Seasons in NBA traded away to get Adrew Bumyun.. What a idiot move disgrace and very short-sighted move that was by the 76ers Brass last Year as I called it would be when it occured..

As far as the 2013 Season
Do take niote that the Top 5-6-7 Players are logging a lot of minutes and eventually will hit a wall without quality Depth to relieve them and especially when some Injuries occur… Players like MCW, Thadd, Evan will be playing 35 Minutes a game and eventually, that is going to catch up with these Players after 20 Games or so..

The Vuc trade is in the past move on, sheesh.. New coach, New outlook, New vision, New GM, New players.. Move on…

This is not a championship team. We know that. We shouldn’t be looking for that right now either. We want to see growth, bright spots, learning experience etc.. This is a very young team designed to lose now but win later.. Can’t argue with the premise or thought process behind it. Mr. Hinkie knows what he’s doing. Just like I’m sure he’s used analytics to see that the team desiring to land the 1st overall pick must win between 20-27 games for the year. Be somewhat competitive, show that your not purposely tanking, yet lose.. You have to show the powers that be that your not… This is pretty much what this year is all about. So enjoy the growth of MCW, the good the bad and the ugly, but one of the untouchable prospects on this roster. Oh and of course Nerlins Noel who’s healing from the torn knee but is a valuable piece for the Sixers moving forward. They traded their franchise player Jrue Holiday for him so we know he’s certainly in the future plans, one of the main reasons why he will most likely sit the entire year, its called protecting your investment.. Me being a business man I know all about protecting your investment.. But I’m enjoying the process. As a core fan I know what this season is all about that’s why I’m not angry at all. They finally have a vision that’s going to be executed in the near future.. A better vision than during the Iverson years.. Something better than that! Not just 1 trip to the finals then bottom feeders for the next 10 years.. Think of the San Antonio Spurs consistence but yet with fast athletic players at every position. That’s more like it, that’s the vision I see so far in what kind of roster they are trying to build here… The future is bright..

Together we build!

ShowYaLuv Philly! We’re on our way!
