Predraft Analysis: Brandon Cooks

cooksWith the 22nd pick of the 2014 NFL draft the Philadelphia Eagles select; wide-receiver Brandin Cooks from Oregon State.  Desean Jackson 2.0, younger, cheaper and per Mr. Cook’s own words, even better.

Cooks is electric with his speed, can stretch the field and do a lot of “great” things with the football after making the catch.  Cooks has been compared by experts to Desean Jackson but is built a bit differently.  He was fearless in college crossing over the dangerous middle parts of the field, and projects a large percentage of slot receiver duties at the NFL level.

Would Cooks be the “best” selection if available at pick #22?  Would trading up to select him be worth serious consideration?  Similar to the rise in draft stock that Tavon Austin saw in 2013, it appears the same is lining up for Cooks.

I don’t believe it is necessary to select Cooks in the first round of the NFL draft.  This draft is deep, in the eyes of the experts, the deepest wide-receiver class of all time.

There are several options outside of round one for the “smaller/speedier” receiver.  Players like Paul Richardson from Colorado (rd 2), Bruce Ellington from South Carolina (rd 2-3), Michael Campanaro from Wake Forest (rd 5) and Jalen Saunders from Oklahoma (rd 5-6) provide four other options.

Guys like Brandin Cooks do not come around often.  They provide more than the ability to simply make football plays; they also open up space for others on the football field, something we witnessed for the last six seasons.

Would Cooks be the best player for the Eagles to draft as a position of “need?”  A few weeks ago a wide receiver was a mid to late round focus.

With releasing our best receiver, is it necessary to now replace them with our first round selection?

Cooks is a very exciting player. His highlight tape is crazy. However, I would not go in this direction with the 22 pick, and certainly would not trade up. Very good player, but I believe that they gave some other players at that position ha would make more sense. I am still holding out that the Birds will get help for the defense with their first pick and address receiver in the second round. There are a number of very good recievers that will still be around in the 2nd round…..I am hoping that the team will get a defensive stud it he first and Allen Robinson in the second.

Your on point greenfan! Listen we don’t have pass rushers that offensives worry about…we don’t have super playmakers at linebacker or in the secondary. Who scares the offense on our defense…we are very average across the board…Kendricks is getting better…Boykin…is ok…but outside of that…we don’t have impact defensive players…and we should be humiliated the way the Saints ran the ball up our gut to end the game! We need to draft defensive players and focus on shutting people down…our offense is not going to be as good this year…we need to pick it up on defense to have a shot!!!

Anybody they drafted would have been on the field……They haven’t had the talent in house, to keep who they draft off the field……..

That’s why I keep telling you – you are overstating the Job Howie has done, because the draft picks outside of Kendricks, and Kelce – have been average, to piss poor, to not even in the league anymore…….Yet your still in denial….

The boo bird band wagon has a lot of GCobb non believers. There are very few of us who recognized excellence early. Eventually those disrespecting the Eagles will have to capitulate. Mosley can be a Starter for many Teams …but I see Barr more as a Rotational Player (Pass-Rusher Specialists) during his Rookie Season

Remember the Giants how they used JPP during his Rookie Season, He hardly played at all the first 6 Games of his Rookie Season and then got more snaps as he learned their System, etc,etc.. It did not happen out of the gate for him as it does not for most Rookies and especially on Defense where it takes a while .. and at WR…

Mosley would kick the door down on Ryans and if Demeco Ryans is your backup by mid season etc it still helps your team. We survived major injuries last year that may not be the case this year.

Even if Barr is a pass rush specialist if you could 7-10 sacks out of him in those scenarios that would be huge for this team. It would be fanatical to think the kid would be a Wilkerson and hit the league with 18.5. But look at the Dolphins own problem with Dion Jordan. Fans are ripping the kid like hes a bust. However because I have a gambling problem lol you would see that the Dolphins DL actually has two certified studs at DE in Vernier and Wake. They had absolutely no idea that Vernier would jump from 3.5 sacks and a quiet rookie season to a beast. All of sudden now you have a Jordan sitting and sitting and sitting. IMO in the 3-4 Barr would be a better pass rusher than Cole.

There are 2-3 Defensive Impact Players that will be selected in the Top 10
Clowney, Mack and that’s about it … The Top 2 Safeties (Dix & Pryor) as well as the Top CB’s (Gilbert, Dennard,Fuller,Roby, etc) will all have adjustments to make for the NFL game and no sure thing as making an impact their Rookie Seasons let alone starting out of the Gate..
This is a very deep Draft, but not many impact or star players, so temper you excitement for 99% of the Players Drafted will not be Starters or make significant contributions until 2015 Season…

That’s what I have been preaching all this time Paulman that’s why I say trade back if cooks is off the board none of these guys @22 are gonna play or will be ready to play for that matter. If you get a cb he’s not gonna play, same thing with olb now the only other player that would get playing time is the OG from ucla and that’s only if they trade Mathis.

yes I agree 100% and have stated the same thing for 2 months now..
The Problem is that many Teams are looking to do the same thing…

A team with Early 2nd Round Selections (Texans,Raiders,Browns,Jags)
are teh best Trade partners if they want to get back into the 1st Round to
Draft a QB like Bridgewater if he slides, which I think he will, or a Carr, McCarron,Garappolo..
Or if one of the Teams want to get back in the First Round once the WR Run begins..
Remember that Teams like the Colts & Redskins do not have 1st Round PIcks and may be looking to get into the 1st Round .. The Redskins probably not as much since they signed D-Jax. but the Colts need OL & WR and Safety Updgrads and may not want to wait late in the 2nd ROund for their first Selection..

No way a long term plan with an end goal 🙂 I disagree with the amount of homegrown talent that we have on this team but we do have talent. If Reid and Co. wouldn’t have blown back to back drafts I would have viewed things a bit differently but Graham Watkins Jarrett are things you don’t come back from easily. They should be solid to great contributors now. Who would have thought that Nic Foles would be the gem of those drafts and he still hasn’t proved anything beyond 1 great year.

The playoff year last year did a couple things. It put the league on notice about Kelly. It also raised over the top expectations for a team that IMO was at 2-3 years away from a solid base to be LEGIT contenders. The 49ers had 3-4 years of great drafts and stockpiling talent. Then Harbaugh came and solidified that talent by drafting Aldon Smith implementing his scheme etc. The Seahawks literally spent 3 years drafting and putting together an ENTIRE defense. Look at what great draft did for them….do I need to lose more sleep over Earl Thomas in a Seahawks uniform.

If Fletcher Cox does not have a breakout year this year again you are pushed right back down the ladder because YOU CAN NOT MISS on top 10 picks.

If Barr, HaHa, or CJ get close to 22, move up and grab them. If we can trade 22 + Graham to Miami for Dixon – do it! If not, trade back to #30 and get an addition 3rd round pick. That will give us 4 picks to address: WR, CB, OLB, and S.

Jeff you are right !!!!!! This is why I said there best bet is the trade with 49ers
#22
For
#56,61,94,170
It works for both teams the 49ers are in win now mode and the only two things they need on there team is cb & wr and these are the only things they are missing from winning the bowl where as the eagles there not one player away they need so much help across the board that they need to trade back. Plus the 49ers don’t have enough roster spots for all those picks. And yes the point system does match up with that trade.

Why would the 49ers want to give an NFC Opponent 4 Draft PIcks
The have a Ton of Picks and not many Roster needs outside of
WR,CB,DE and now LB
Remember that ILB Patrick Willis is creeping up on 30
ILB Navarro Bowman coming off major Knee Surgery
lost 2 Veterans in Secondary with Donte Whitner & Carlos Rogers moving on.. and Then DE Justin SMith is almost at the end of his Career and now the Big Question ? concerning Aldon Smith’s Future with the Club..
The 49ers are not quite as stacked and you think. they have a lot of age at DL, TE, and need some young Players on their Defense as they makeoevr their Team.. I actually expect the 49ers to take a step back this year as they transition from Frank Gore to RB Lattimore now that he sat out last year with his Injuries..

Paulman they are in win now mode and I don’t think they are really worried about the eagles if they feel like it’s a cb or wr there that can help them this year I think they would make that trade in a heartbeat it might be in the same conference but it’s not the same division and they did pretty good last year without smith when he was in rehab… Hell maybe they make that trade and with those picks they take cj Mosley and fuller in the 1st rd

This is why u have trade back is ha ha, Barr or CJ gonna make us Super Bowl contenders this year I don’t think so. The only reason the eagles might have a chance at being in the bowl this is 3reasons.
1. Foles has a Peyton manning year
2. Shady has an AP year
3. A bunch of good players from other teams gets hurt.

The eagles must project and look at like
How much better will ha ha be in 2015 compared to Deion bucannan or jimmy ward
Or how much better will Barr be in 2015 compared to any of these other olb’s…
Remember a lot of these players come out that gets drafted in rds2-4 a lot people say if they would’ve stayed in school they would be a first rd pick next year so howie & co… Have to judge for themselves how much more some of these players have room to grow or are they almost a finished product… But there best bet is to trade back. You can tell they don’t even think the talent in the draft is ready this year otherwise you would’ve hear reports about them trying to trade for dion Jordan & cj spiller.

Most teams in the back of the 1st are only trading down lower in the first or the top of the 2nd. To move 30 spots back and lose out on possible impact players would be a tough pill to swallow. There were double digit starters on defense/offense from mid 1st to mid 2nd and some certified studs.

And it wouldn’t be tough pill to swallow if they moved back 30 spots they keep saying that a player u draft in 3rd this year might be a 1st or 2nd in a normal year in other words it’s deep they have a lot of holes and as you can see they don’t wanna spend in fa so the only way to do is thru the draft get as ma u picks as possible and keep adding to the talent you already have. I would rather have three 2nd rd picks and two 3rd picks one pick in the first 3rds cause it’s a deep draft there is at least 10 players that won’t be here next year due to there salary and skills so u need to replace them this year to get them ready for next year.

A possibly and best Trade Scenario would be Eagles Trading from #22
down to #26 to the Borwns (who would then grab QB Bridgewater or Carr)
to get one of the Browns Multiple 3rd Round Selections (#83rd)
Then Trade that #26 Pick to the Indy Colts (who have no 1st Rounder)
for their 2nd (58th) & 4th (130th) who want a Top WR (Benjamin)

By making these 2 Trade Downs Eagles would have the FOllowing

2nd Rd (#54) Eagles own Pick
2nd Rd (#58) From Colts Deal
3rd Rd (#83) From Browns who got from Steelers in a Trade last year
3rd Rd (#86) Eagles own Pick
4th Rd (#126) Eagles own Pick
4th Rd (#130) From Colts Deal

I would rather have 6 Selections of the Top 130 Prospects
than 4 of the Top 126 Prospects.. by that’s just me ..

Because it came from me and not you…Ha ha.. Only Kidding Gloomy, I just don’t believe the 49ers is a very realistic deal in happening where I believe my Deals have a chance of happening ..
Browns will take a Top Position Player with their 1st Selection in the 1st Round and then go after QB with their 2nd Selection at #26 but will wnt o make sure they get a Top QB and at #22 can Secure Carr or Bridgewater if he falls
Most Teams do not like to Trade to Division or Conference Opponents so Trade Deals involving Draft Picks are usually with Teams in the opposite Conferences.. See Recent Eagles Deals with Trades to AFC Teams like the Patriots, Browns, Texans, Colts, etc.etc..
As I mentioned, the Colts have no 1st Round Selection and would love to get a big Receiver like Benjamin who can be groomed with
Reggie Wayne (who may reture after 2014) and Hakeem Nicks who is only on a 1 Year Deal.. Colts are loading up now to compete and beat the Broncos & Patriots in the AFC with a Combination of a Solid Offense & Defense

Yes Brown would be a good fit for the TItans and new HC Wisenhut likes a Physical & Power Running Game.. The Titans currently have Shonn Green and Jackie Battle & 3rd Scat back Leon Washington

I would not be surprised to see HC Wisenhut go after RB Carlos Hyde from Ohio State with his 1st Round Pick.. He love’s RB’s and Drafted a few during his Time in Arizona…

I a Team Takes RB Carlos Hyde in the First Round..
Maybe a Team like the Titans, Cardinals,Patriots or even the Seahawks
could take him
Patriots have both RB’s Ridley and Verren coming into their Contract years and are Free-Agents after 2014 and let Legarrett Blount go in Free-Agency, Belichek likes big Backs…
Seahawks RB Lynch is not getting any Younger…
Titans and Cardinals have no true #1 RB on their Current Roster

Kurt Coleman, former Philadelphia Eagle safety had this to say about DeSean Jackson.
Coleman, who has agreed to terms with the Vikings, joined NFL Radio on Sirius XM Monday and talked about Jackson’s release and the notion that he was a problem in the locker room.

“I think Philadelphia is going to miss him big time,” said Coleman. “I find it troubling to hear some of the stories — and I don’t know who is really putting them out there. I thought DeSean was a good guy in the locker room. He was someone I could talk to and could relate to.

“Did he kind of do his own thing? Yeah. But we kind of all do our own thing in our own way. But when it came game time I would talk to him every game and I would ask him, ‘Is 10-mode on?’ And there was no question. He would give 100 percent. He would take those big hits for the team. And he was one of those guys that you wanted to play every Sunday because the explosiveness, the X-factor that he brought to a team is [unmatched]. I think Philadelphia is going to miss him.”

Coleman is the second former teammate to back Jackson in recent days. On Saturday, LeSean McCoy disputed the narrative that Jackson was a malcontent that needed to go.

“I think anybody that tells you that they’re happy about it, I don’t know how honest that would be,” McCoy said.

I would put more credence in Shadey’s comments than Coleman. Not that Coleman was not being truthful, I would believe that he he is, but rather he is playing on the defense and was probably not around DJax as often. It would be like 2 guys working for the same company…they know each other, but one is in the accounting department and the other is in engineering…they are not often in the same meetings or working together on a project to really know what type of an employee the other is. I have no doubt that Coleman didn’t observe any problems, we really need to have comments from other recievers to get an idea if there were any problems…which it truthfully does not matter at all going forward. The Eagles and Kelly have made their move to separate DJax from the team. They are going forward without him, and all of the talk now does not change that fact. Bottom line, Kelly wanted him gone….and he is gone.

Yeah…it’s really becoming apparent that there was some foul play here…Kurt Coleman’s right…we will miss him big time…he’s the second guy who has manned up…spoke for the record…and its pretty clear that this suggestion that Desean was some major disruptive factor to the team is pure garbage!
Its becoming obvious that the Eagles management played cutthroat and dirty and tried to gut DJax’s career because he asked for some more money…
Dirty…real dirty!

Coleman “Yeah, We all kinda of do our own thing”
This is exactly the mindset that Coach Kelly is changing. Some players realize it and get on the Bus, others don’t and get a ticket out of Town..
This is the new Philadelphia Eagles.. Also a strong reminder to any Players Drafted or signing a Free-Agnet Deal, you better move your ass to Philly and be a “Full-Time Eagle” for Owner Lurie, GM Roseman, HC Kelly are no longer going to pay Top $$ for Part-Ttime Eagles & Residents of the Delaware Valley.. I am not saying philosophy is right or wrong, but I am saying this is how it’s going to be under Coach Kelly and the Front Office..

The philosophy is wrong and ridiculous…it won’t work paulman!! Again…this is the NFL..with grown men…you need strong personalities who produce on Sundays…not a bunch of conformers. Players will buy in if they see wins….the only thing that will convince players to buy totally in to the depths that Kelly wants…is playoff wins…a Super Bowl.
Players are not going to sleep 12 hours per day and have their lives dominated by the Coach…this aint college…its the NFL…
Kelly better wake up…he may be taking the limited success he had last season waaaaay too far!!

Unfortunately we are in an era of NFL Football where very few Franchises from the Top on Down really don’t care about fielding a Top Defensive Team.. maybe the Seahawks,49ers,Patriots,Steelers,Ravens and maybe throw in the Giants/Panthers as Organizations that take Pride and Building their Teams with Strong and Intimidating Defenses…
The Rest want to Score Points, Make Big plays, Slinf the ball 40-50 Times a Game, etc,etc.. It’s what Sells and Draws big Ratings..
Fans and casual Fans love those 38-35 Ballgames and turn off those
17-13 Slugest ..
This is one of the Way that Seattle rose to prominence as quickly as they did.. Pete Carroll and Seahawks GM looked around the NFL landscape and knew that concentrating with l Talent and Athleticism on Defense would win them a lot of ugly games until he found his QB which he now has in Russell Wilson and could ocmpete for a Super Bowl in 3-4 Years time.. Now they are built for teh long-haul if they keep their Core of Young Players around for a while ..

Many have been saying it for a while Stevo.

I am waiting until after the draft to rate Howies efforts this year. We should have learned from the past that just because you sign “big name” free agents doesn’t guarantee success. I have been with you, this defense needs to be addressed. If they only focus on adding more “toys” for Kelly’s offense in the draft, then it will be a long season because we all know that as this team is constructed the defense is a prominent weak link.

Sure lets just use our first rd pick to put us exactly where we were at the end of last year. Sproles should be our only midget he will work the slot and in space, Polk will be the change of pace RB he reminds me of Duce a lot. Bryce Running from a dog Brown should be traded. He has eye popping top end speed for his size reminds me of Bo Jackson when he hits that top gear, but he can only run straight 90 degree angles lol. WR should be addressed later its easier to find a steal at wr than it is a defensive playmaker. With all the 7 on 7 stuff these kids do now Wr will be a dime a dozen backups coming in and performing like they did last year. Boykin in Greenbay comes to mind steps right in and does fine. Even Cooper here Wr can’t be touched makes it easier for them to make at least the routine plays more often. Defense Defense first two picks. With Foles taking care of the ball a better defense will be the difference in close games.

Now I should put a disclaimer here…despite our needs on defense…we can’t reach…you have to stay true to your draft board and go for the best talent available where you are picking! So if say a Teddy Bridgewater or Derek Carr is there at 22…and they are higher than the defensive players on your board…you have to take the talent that’s there!!

His arm strength is adequate…since we don’t have Djax the deep passing game is not going to be a point of emphasis anyway. His biggest quality is that he is a clutch player! You will never see him with the ‘deer in the headlights’ look that we saw with Foles last year against Dallas…the moment is never too big for him. He is smart, throws with excellent anticipation, he is tough..and he has more than adequate speed for a quarterback…
If he somehow falls to 22, we can’t pass him up!

The Eagles wont waste a first round draft pick on someone who will sit on the bench. Do you think Bridgewater is better than Vick? Because Foles put Vick on the bench last year.

I know…. I know…. the defenders fell down when Foles played. And Chip’s plays got receivers wide open for Foles. But it’s not going to happen next year, right? We need to draft a QB for you and Songs to call for every game… lol

Yeah, yeah…Injuries are what really put Vick on the bench…when Foles and Vick went head up…Vick kicked his ass.
However, Vick plays for the New York Jets…he will be starting for them more than likely…the bigger question is Bridgewater better than Nick Foles…
The answer to that question is YES…
Foles of course would start…however the lost of Djax and the space he created in the passing game is going to have a big impact on Foles who will be feeling the pressure. Foles is not a guy who plays his best under pressure situations…when he folds up..the Eagles are not going to be willing to pay him the big bucks…might as well have a better option available under the realistic possibility that Foles folds under the pressure.
And we all know that the Eagles will take a player on the cheap! Bridgewater would save them bucks as compared to Foles

I’m not like you fake ass fans who only roots for the team when the QB is someone you like!
However, as a Born and raised Eagle fan… I reserve the unmitigated right to give my honest assessment! Foles is not a crunch time, prime time Quarterback…I have serious doubts about him. This year is his big test…tough schedule, tougher defenses…one of his main weapons DJax taken away…higher expectations…more pressure.
So my hope is that we win the Super Bowl, my demand as a Eagle fan for this organization is that we win at least one playoff game or it’s a failed season, my prediction is that we won’t make the playoffs

We disagree on DJax’s overall value. I went into last season not confident in Vick or Foles. Vick fell apart exactly like I thought and Foles played out of his mind.

As for you – you came around Philly when Mike Vick came around. You’re not a born and raised Eagles fan. You’re full of shit.

The Eagles won 8 games with Foles at QB last year – you complained about every win…. You complained about about Foles the week he threw 7 TD passes and had 158.3 QB rating.

You predicted Foles falling on his face before every one of his starts last year…. Well, in the last game Foles walked off the field for the final time with the lead. That’s all any QB can do….

Just keep having you doubts – you have been wrong about everything you predicted so far.

OLB Mack is a perfect Fit for Romeo Crennel’s 3-4 Scheme
and would be used much like Willie McGinest was back in the Day..
Clowney does 1 thing very well, and that’s rush the Passer, but he’s is not very comfortable in dropping back in Coverages, Playing Zones which is required in a 3-4 .. Mack will be much more productive in Crennel’s System than CLowney would be and besides, the Texans have JJ Watt and Whitney Mercilus already as DE and really need OLB and Secondary Help
As far as QB goes, the Texans will select at #35 (1st Pick in the 2nd Draft whether thats Dereck Carr, Jimmy Garappolo or McCarron)
Coach BIll O’Brien likes tall, in the Pocket Passers but is not wooed by any of the Top 3 in this Years Draft Class (Bortles,Manziel or Bridgewater)

I don’t believe the Eagles give up that much to pick Evans at #5. If Evans slips to around 12-15 then maybe they trade up. You cannot make that big of a trade that early UNLESS you know for a fact you can make some more trades.
Also, NO WAY the Eagles trade McCoy this draft….maybe next off-season but not now. The PR alone would do them in, let alone they have no one to replace him. Don’t give me Sproles either, he is a good 2nd RB but not a primary guy.

My top 10 without trades.

1. Houston- Johnny Manziel. (This is the biggest pressure pick in the draft. Do you let the the Hometown boy get out of Texas? Also what is the point of having a huge hole at QB but having Arian Foster and Andre Johnson still on the team?)

2. Rams – Greg Robinson (Not cutting bait on Bradford basically hamstrings the Rams into protecting the QB. Drafting multiple WRs over the last 2 years takes Watkins off the board and the rams are LOADED in the front 7.

3.Jacksonville Jaguars-Jadeveon Clowney (Bradley took our trash in Chris Clemons and turned him into an absolute monster in his hybrid 4-3. This is the wildcard pick in the top 10. They are so terrible they can draft any player in the top 10.

4. Cleveland Browns – Blake Bortles (without the pick from Indianapolis I believe the Browns would have taken the best player available. However Josh Gordon became a superstar overnight and using the 2nd pick in the 1st round for a QB is basically the Brandon Weeden Saga 2.0.

5. Raiders – Sammy Watkins (They need help at WR in the worst way. They could also go OL after losing Valdheer or in true Raiders mode select Johnny Manziel if he falls to No.5

6. Falcons – Jake Matthews (They have a franchise Qb a franchise Wr. Both are worthless if Matt Flynn is staring up at the lights in stadium on his back on all day.

7. Tampa Bay – Mike Evans (Lovie loves tall Wrs. After seeing the Marshall/Jeffery combo destroy the league with 2 different QBs expect for Lovie to bring the show to TB.

8. Vikings – Khalil Mack. The Vikings need a QB but unless they trade up or reach for Derek Carr/Teddy Bridgewater they will be left with what most will consider the 3rd best QB in the draft and with Christian Ponder on the roster still do they want to repeat that scenario. Losing Allen/Kevin Williams leads them to bring a new leader for the defense and not a bad consolation prize.

9. Buffalo- Eric Ebron. The Bills have some good young talent on the defensive side of the ball. Alonzo was a hit and they played most of the year without Kyle Williams. Offensively they could grab an OL to protect Manuel here but they have absolutely nothing at the TE position. Ebron is the best TE in the draft.

10. Lions. Taylor Lewan. The Lions need help on the line and this is the safest pick. However if they choose to address the defense then CB/S is their biggest need and this is where Dennard or Dix could slide into the top 10 based more on need than best player available.

Ok you can rip me to shreds now lol

Good stuff Izell

I see absolutely zero change that Texans selects Johnny Football
New HC O’Brien is on record that he want’s a Taller, In-the-Pocket QB
which is what he’s had success with at New England (Tom Brady,Matt Casell,Ryan Mallett and what he recruited while in Penn State)

The Rest looks great though…
Now I understand the Presurre of Selecting the home-town boy in Johnny Football, but Coach O’Brien is not enamored with scrambling, msallish, athletic type of QB’s who run at the first sight of Pressure..
he likes them tall an strong and deliver the Ball on time and accurately from the Pocket…

However if Bortles were to be the first than Shahid Khan may not be able to handle himself and let Manziel pass. They have legit concerns about selling tickets there so it would go beyond football. That would fall more in line with my thought process that I think Clowney and Mack may be there after 3 picks and then the trades would be in effect with people trying to trade up.

I am leaning that way also, He kinds of reminds me of Nick Foles a little bit.. Probably has a stronger arm, maybe doesn’t have the downfield vision yet, but it will come.

I beleive the Texans Coach O’Brien really wants Mettzanberger to rebuild the Franchise.. Maybe the Texans may way to trade back into the 1st Round with the Eagles for their #22 To ensure they get him.. Let’s say they Offer their 2nd (#33) & 3rd (#65th) and maybe a Mid-Round 2015 Draft Pick to the Eagles for their 1st (#22) ..
I do this Deal in a Heartbeat If I am Eagles…

Mettz falls into the third round IMO. The knee injury doesn’t scare teams but it will be hard for a team with no QB at all to justify a high pick on a kid who is better off not playing this year.

I could see a team with an established QB however making a player for him in the mold of Nassib to the Giants last year. With the success of the recent qbs coming out of college any pick in the 1-3rd round rage is going to have to be able to play at some point his first year unless the team is a contender.

Texans Signed QB Ryan Fitzpatrick to run the O’Briens Offense for 2014 while “Metz” will be groomed for 2015 and as a 2nd Rounder, the Pressue of Starting him before he’s really ready is not really there..
HC O’Brien has the Confidence of his GM/Owner and reportedly has instructed them that “Johhny Football” is not a good fit for his Offense…O’Brien wants a Smart,Tall, Good Decision-Maker, Pocket QB.

No problem Izzell…ripping you is always fun! No Damm way will Houston take Johnny Manziel and pass up on Jadeveon Clowney…they have to be drooling at the mouth at the thought of him lining up with JJ Wyatt…..The Vikings will probably grab Bridgewater…but if they pass on him….he may fall a long way…and if he falls anywhere near us…we need to grab him up with the quickness…also Cleveland is not going to take Bortles…they will grab Manziel at that spot!

Paulman if they did make that trade to get into the top 5 they would be better off trading shady for a 1st next year rather than taking a 2&4 this year give me 1st next year and a 5th this year. I really don’t see them Trading Shady.. The Town would explode..
Shady is the single most important Player for their Offense to work and would be doomed without him…
I do see the Eagles looking to Trade Evan Mathis, Brandon Graham, Bryce Brown & possibly James Casey for additional Picks over the Draft Weekend..

Igglessb27

April 16, 2014 1:27 pm

It’s so funny that now that the Eagles cut DMe, EVERYONE assumes they will trade Shady asap. For whatever reason they cut DMe, doesn’t mean Shady is gone. They are 2 different players and people. Is Shady untouchable, NO, but they aren’t going to trade him just to trade him.
Let’s use logic also, why would anyone trade a 1st round pick for Shady? RB’s are not valued in the NFL like they used to be. Last year there wasn’t a single RB taken in the 1st round and there are none projected this year either. Plus as far as Jax goes, they just signed Gerhardt to a 3 yr deal. I know he is no Shady but he is a serviceable starter in the league. They are not a RB from making a playoff run, so why would they give up future picks to acquire someone to make them a .500 team?

27, it’s the same logic 10 million got Desean out of here, 9.75 million for Shady with the way rb’s are devalued will almost demand that he restructures his contract. By the way Desean wasn’t released because of his gang affilations, or his non-existent arguments with the Head coach or his now disputed by named teammates compared to the popular unnamed teammates locker room behavior. Now the reason might be because he blew off Chip during the end of season interview that nobody can confirm.

Why would the Eagles make trades that doesn’t award them a pick till #56? It makes ZERO sense. I understand this is a deep draft BUT to not have a pick till #56 does not help this team at all. If they trade with the 49ers, they get back #30 so that they can get a WR or OLB. Now they may trade with the Texans or Jags and drop out of the 1st round but only down to #34 or #36. They still need a star player, picking #56 eliminates that.

Whoever they draft @22 isn’t gonna start til 2015 barring injury so whynt get as many picks as possible you do realize they will be getting rid of like 10 key players next year and will have to be replaced
1.cary Williams – overpaid for his skil level
2. Bradley Fletcher -fa as well as injury prone
3.trent cole – his time has passed time to younger faster and cheaper
4-‘.democo Ryan’s- can’t pay somebody that type of money to be a 2down lb
5.todd Herremans- best days are behind him and his salary
6. Fletcher cox -this is a make or break year for him
7. Brent celeck- gets paid to much to just be a blocker
8. James Casey- gets paid to much to play special teams
9. Evan Mathis- will need to be replaced
10. Wr spot no depth behinds Maclin and cooper
So yes with this draft being so deep and the eagles only having 6picks this is the perfect draft to trade down.

Igglessb27
April 16, 2014 4:12 pm

Who says #22 wouldn’t start this year or be a major player for the team?
Yes they only have 6 picks this year but lets use logic…..say 3 of these picks make the team, then you have Free Agency next year and that fills 2 more spots, then next years draft fills 2 more spots you are down to 3 possible spots to fill. They have Kruger coming back this year, maybe he fills the role as pass rusher. They have young depth on the OL whom they like alot….Tobin and Kelly so possibly one of them replace Herramans. So there is another spot filled. No team is 100% set, so the Eagles aren’t in a bad position. How many of the picks after the 3rd round are guaranteed to make the team? NONE so why pass on a potential stud for some camp bodies that may or may not add depth?

Roseman has already stated that pursuing the “Big-Name Free-Agents Era” is over for the Eagles and that he will make strategic targets for Depth & Competition, which basically means cheaper and 2nd Tier Talent in Free-Agency.. Roseman is a strong believer in Drafating and Coaching up and Developing Young Talen so he will make a couple of moves to add at least 2-3 More Selections to this years Deep Draft by either Trading Down from #22, Trading some veterans Players or combination of both…

If you haven’t noticed they don’t like to spend money in fa there scared to now I want a deep team and the only position that has a chane of playing not counting injury is wr cause there thin at that spot. Boykin is there best cb he can’t even start don’t give be that crap about they like him in the slot either your best players need to be on the field and Brandon graham is a better pass rusher than cole is right now in his career but yet he is on the bench. Wr would be the only spot unless players got hurt.

gloomysmitty
gloomysmitty
April 16, 2014 4:25 pm

And there is no rule that says the #22 but let’s look at deeper.
1.if they go cb if Boykin can start what makes you think the rookie will
2. If they olb are they gonna start a rookie over a guy who is making 10mill this year.
3. If they go safety he will only play special teams
4.they go dline there not gonna start over any of those guys better yet of they did start him is he gonna have that much of an impact
5. Wr he isn’t gonna start over Maclin or cooper unless mike Evans falls to 22
6. Now that OG from ucla could start if they trade Mathis.

Y’all gotta open your eyes

Igglessb27
Igglessb27
April 16, 2014 4:27 pm

So what you are saying is they never sign starters in FA? Barwin, Jenkins, D Jones…….they may not be HOF’ers but they start. Carroll, Williams, and Fletcher are FA’s they brought in. All 3 were starters in the league before. Like I said EVRY team has weak spots on their team. No team can be 100% solid with the salary cap.
What games have you watched the last 3 years?…..Graham IS NOT better than Cole. Graham has had the chance to prove to 2 HC’s that he is a good player….yet he still rides the bench! Boykin IS on the field just as much as Fletcher and Williams! Again what games have you been watching?
So what you are saying is….the teams drafting in the Top 10 of the draft are wasting picks bc the players they draft won’t be ready for a year or two? If a 1st round player can’t start what makes 3 6th rounders a lock to help this team?

How about the Eagles Vinny Curry who was a 2nd/3rd Pick a couple of Years back and is going into his 3rd Year as an Eagle and needs to step up and compete and get more Playing Time.. He seems very active the few chances he gets.. I am not sure if he’s a bad practice player, misses or late to meetings but it defeinitely seems like he should be on the Field more than he is…
Remember the OLB Postions has McCoy, Braman and Returning PHillip Hunt who was looking real good last Camp/Pre-Season until he got hurt

The Eagles probably feel they have the Pass-Rushing Positions Covered
with the combination of these Players including Trent Cole) so don’t be surprised if Eagles do not address the DE/OLB Positions with Early Round SElections and instead focus on CB’s, WR & DT & OL

They don’t have anything close to a pass rush, and they know it –
Barwin, Cole, and anybody else on the team, doesn’t have what it takes to give a consistent pass rush –

They better address that before anything else, because that has been what they have been lacking, and it affect their secondary as well…

That statement was really based on the fact that you don’t want them to address pass rusher, as much as you would another position – preferably, one that would involve a prospect of your choice……Your a funny guy Paul…..

Rush DE/OLB, should be their first selection, unless they can still get one in the 2nd – not WR, DT, or the Offensive Line – Pass Rushing DE/OLB…

I agree- but it’s hard to get a 2nd or 3rd Round Pick when the Player has so little on tape and little Playing Time..
Think of it as buying a New Car, soon as you Drive it off the Lot, it Depreciates 30% -40 % almost immediately..
You can Drop 1-2 Rounds from where you were selected if you are not a Starter/Major Contributor..
The difficult decision becomes, you have 2 Years nivested in the Player who is still on his Rookie Deal so who are you going to replace him with that either doesn’t more $$$ or is a Rookie who has to learn the system, adjust to the NFL,etc, etc… You may as well keep Curry for Year #3 and see if he really shines, if not, then cut the chord in 2015 since they will cut the chord with Graham here in 2014 and waited 1 Year to long with him

Name of the Philadelphia Eagles to the Philiadelphia “Kelly-Greens” and to hire his Unemployed Nephew as the Team Mascot named “Kelly-Green” and to fire Current mascot Swoope, after spreading Rumors about Swoopes Orientation..
This Chip Kelly is out of Control if you ask me….
