At first, everybody thought the reason DeSean Jackson was released by the Eagles was because of his association with gangs back home in Los Angeles. Then, it was thought to be because he didn’t blend in well with the new players Chip Kelly has assembled and Jackson was labeled a bad teammate.
The Birds let Jackson go about a month ago, but waited until yesterday to tell everybody why. I think they should have given their reasons for letting him go shortly after making the decision. I can clearly understand why they made the move. It was football and money, which makes more sense to me now than it did then.
I think it would have served, Chip Kelly, Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman, better if they had explained their reasons for making the move a couple of days afterward rather than a month.
When Kelly started talking to the media yesterday it seemed like the decision had been totally football-related, but after Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie had finished speaking we knew it was a football and finances decisions, but not exactly in that order.
Kelly values wide receivers with size, who can block and battle for the football in the red zone. There’s going to be a bunch of big wide outs in the draft, so the Birds decided to make the switch now rather than hold onto Jackson another year or two.
I think Chip is going to make the tight end position a featured position in this offense because it allows his offense to always present both a run and pass threat to the defense. Remember that Kelly was talking multiple tight end sets before the season a year ago, after he had acquired Houston Texans tight end , James Casey and drafted rookie Zach Ertz.
“He had a very expensive contract,” Kelly said. “There’s a guy who was one of the best corners in the NFL [Revis] was let go this year. That guy is a helluva player. But there’s a lot of economics that get involved.”
“We gave him the contract [2 years ago] because he’s a really good player,” Eagles GM Howie Roseman said. “We felt comfortable with it. But 2 years is a long time. We had a lot of changes in 2 years, and circumstances change.
Regardless of why the Birds let Jackson go, they must replace his production in the offense. Kelly seems to be confident that they’ll have no problem moving on without him.
“We know where we’re going,” Kelly said, “and we understand the direction we’re going in as an offensive team and we’re excited about our future.”
Agree or disagree no question Kelly has a vision for the roster. One thing that Reid lost. Reid collected players. Kelly is creating a team.
How did Reid lose that vision when every single one of those players that chip had last year outside of ertz was a guy that Reid either drafted or signed. Reid only screwed himself when he had Vick as his qb if foles would’ve played for Andy last year the offense would’ve been just as good.
gloomy, AR did lose vision…. he was very good at the draft, built from within and added a piece when close…then he listened to gcobb posters and tried to win the FA off season battle… lost all perspective of building a football team.
kelly won’t listen to the bloggers, will continue to build a roster from within… simple really.
AR lost his vision, by listening to GCobb bloggers? That was the stupidest, most asinine thing I’ve ever heard! Do you honestly think AR could give a rats @$$ what any of us say? That’s like saying us booing is the reason players don’t play well, because their feelings get hurt! You are Schiller, you just changed your name. Instead of unwarrantedly ripping other posters, & guzzling front offices Kool-aid, get a f^#@ing clue. You are an idiot, & this post solidifies it.
that was tongue and cheek… figured you wouldn’t get it knuckle head!
Riiiiiiiight!
he won the FA off season…thats what you fools always want… don’t blame me that you are sophisticated enough to understand a bit of sarcasm and wit…
C’mon DCar, his post was dripping with sarcasm. You’re better than that.
no he’s not…any chance to use *()&^% etc. he is a small minded idiot
Go fuck yourself, you condescending lowlife! Small minded?? Says the nitwit, who never brings anything to the table, but criticism of other posters, with minds of their own, & failed attempts to bait others, with your snide remarks, & smart @$$ BS! GTFO, with your BS, you lowlife, know nothing loser!
Small minded, says the douche, who is as close minded, & thoughtless as anyone on here. Small minded, says the kool-aid guzzling, front office, alter bowing lemming, who believes everything front offices say, & doesn’t have the brains to discuss ways to how our teams can get better! Small minded, says the @$$clown, who lives in the past, & doesn’t have the a clue as to how to be creative with his thoughts. Small minded, says the @$$ who is happy with being mediocre, & just being in it, than being a true contending winner! F^#@ you!
You can make comments about me being negative, a nitwit, & me posting profanities, & #^$#^ all you want, but that doesn’t change the fact, that you are a condescending, POS troll, that doesn’t have a clue of WTF you’re talking about! Keep bowing at your Ruin 2morrow alter, & pounding your chest at the old mediocre, .500 team you wave your pom-poms at, & maybe he’ll send you a cookie, or something! Scumbag!
You need counseling in a big way… Wow… Print out copies of your posts… The psychiatrist will prescribe at least one anti-psychotic for you.. The anger and low self esteem come screaming out of your posts…
Need counseling? Low self esteem?? Whatever drugs you are smoking, or whatever bath salts you are snorting, you need to stop, because every comment, & claim you make, is ridiculous, baseless, asinine, & deflecting of your own brainlessness, & hypocrisy! I’m not the one who needs counseling. I’m not the one who comes on here, with no life, baiting other posters with trolling, & snide remarks. Like I’ve told you a million times before, you don’t know me, & you don’t know shit about anything, so stop condescendingly act like you are better than, & know more than everyone else. You’ve come on here for years now, been wrong about everything you talk about, & done nothing but criticize other posters with a mind, & brain of their own, because you disagree with them, & are an apologist, & kool-aid guzzling, front office alter bowing, lemming! You can frame me any way you want, try to discredit me, make me look bad, & like the villain all you want, but that doesn’t change the FACT, that you are a lowlife, condescending, know nothing troll, that brings nothing to the table here, but verbal diarrhea & meaningless BS!
like i said you need some help… its a shame a man who claims to be so high and mighty spews the hate that you do on here. You take out your aggression on others you don’t even know in order to feel good about yourself. There are several books on reclaiming your self esteem if you don’t want to go to a psychiatrist.
BLAH, BLAH, BLAH! More verbal nonsense! Now I’ve claimed to be high & mighty? Take out my aggression on others? NO only on condescending, coward, pieces of garbage like you, who think, & act like they’re better than, & know more than everybody else. Only @$$holes like you, who criticize, & question other posters fandom, because they have a brian, & can think with a mind of their own. Only liars like you, who brag about their fake retirement from Coaching, & refereeing, to act like that makes you know more than the rest. Only scumbags like you, who brag about having a pristine, perfect family, with Children that don’t curse, drink, smoke, etc, etc. Only trolls like you, who unwarrantedly troll daily, & criticizes others, because he doesn’t agree with their outlook, & opinion. Only, scumbag cowards like you, who question peoples manhood, name call, & hides behind a computer without backing up his pie hole. I’m not the one, that comes on here & acts like he’s better than anyone. I’m man enough to come on here, eat crow, apologize, & admit when I’m wrong. When have you admitted the millions of times, that you were wrong, & have eaten crow? Never! Because your delusional, irrational, condescending ego, won’t allow you too. My self esteem, self confidence, & self worth, is just fine sonny boy. Like I really need to come on a blog site full of scumbags, racists, & retards, to converse, to make myself feel better about myself. Just reading the idiocy, ignorance, & @$$clownery on here, shows me, that I already am smarter, & much more educated than 3/4 of the imbeciles on here, including YOU! Don’t flatter yourself, with thinking you know WTF you’re talking about me. You’re a clueless, lowlife turd, & unless you have anything to bring to the table, & want to discuss sports, & how to make our teams better, I have nothing else further to discuss, with a POS like you. I’ve been vindicated a 1000 times on here, & have proven you wrong so many times, it isn’t even funny.
What happened to the Summer Time “Trash-Truck Juice”
Good Grief !!!
more name calling… it gets old… i’m sorry my kids don’t drink, i drink and am a bit concerned that they don’t-i’m sorry i served as a public educator and coach for 30 years but thats what i did for all those years. I can’t help you that you are angry and unsatisfied and feel the need to come on here and cuss and ‘yell’ at people-
I suggest you volunteer coach a football team this fall- see what its like- help the kids build self esteem and it may be therapy for you
I suggest you worry about your own f^#@ing life, instead of trolling people, you don’t know, acting like you are better & know more than. For your information, Mr. Coach, teacher extraordinaire, I’ve played & coached Baseball, & Football, since I was a toddler. I’ve coached in the PAL league, pop warner, & sponsored many youths, & have been a Big Brother. I just don’t feel the need to come on here & brag, & use it as an ego boost, to act like I’m better than everyone on here, like you, you phony, fraud, POS! You don’t know $#!T about me, & I couldn’t care any less what you, or anyone else feels about me. I come on here to vent, converse, give my opinions, & talk about how to make my teams better. If you don’t like it, I told you too F^#@ING bad!!!!!
for someone who doesn’t care you sure do write long, angry, curse filled paragraphs….DCAR – i love to get your BP up…its fun!
Just solidifies the fact to everyone, of what a waste of life, condescending troll, that you are. But, I’m the one that needs anti-psychotic meds & has self esteem issues? Keep on trucking Sonny boy! You’re a sad joke!!!!!
No, Reid lost his mind when he made Castillo the D Coordinator, then brought in Mudd and Mr. Wide 9. Those moves sealed his fate. That was the end of the mad scientist he became!
It’s always about the money, but no doubt kelly has a plan and Jackson did not fit within the plan, and no doubt his antics on the field, in practice, and off all figured, probably clinched it
If he were more if am avant type teammate they would have rode him another year
Shady is next, especially with his talking about the qb
Ridiculous! Kelly’s mantra last year was that his “system” can be tailored to the players! Stop with the foolish innuendo…there has not been any verified information that DJax had any “antics” on the practice field or off the field. We kept the guy wiith the off-field issues…the racist Riley!
Oh there’s “verified information” you twit.
He’s no longer on the team. That’s all the “verified information” you need.
hot air you do realize its more about what they are NOT saying then what they say about djax? this was addition by subtraction… an old coaching trick thats been done a million times.
The qb makes the coach
The Oregon TE with huge red flags had the best combine numbers for TE’s. I forget if he was at the combine or the workout numbers are from his pro day. Round 5/6 is probably good value since Kelly knows him and thinks he isn’t going to be a problem.
I agree. Lyerla and Ertz will feature prominently in our 2 TE offense over the next five years. It will share a lot in common with the offense of the Pats in the hey day of Grokowski and Hernandez but with more emphasis on running the ball. If Foles continues to progress, and more importantly stays healthy, we will rule the NFL on offense. Now we just need that “good enough”defense like the turn of the century Rams teams. Barely Top ten defense that gets take aways and plays well in RZ. That will be enough. And of course a reliable kicker.
Didnt he bench 225 two times?
Reid last year here he was missing 3players from his Oline one was an all pro by the way his starting rb and desean so I wouldn’t say he was out of touch and his son had died.
do you remember DRC, Asmo, Young, Babin, Washburn, Castillo etc? — he lost touch with his winning formula—
You hire Juan Castillo as your Defensive Coordinator…you’re beyond out of touch.
I find it hilarious see the sarcastic Kelly is a “genius” comments yet we forget that we took our offensive line coach and made him our defensive line coach…in a year where supposedly we were contenders.
That will go down as the worst move by a coach in Philly sports history.
Unless Desean goes off and the Redskins make the playoffs and the Eagles struggle to score points. But then again Coach Ego’s vision will be great but the players failed to execute it, or well most of them were Reid’s guys anyway or the ever popular they were lucky to go 10-6 karma just caught up with them crew. LOL you can pick any side of the disagreement and be right, the only thing that matters is if you win. When you win you get to tell everyone to shut the hell up. If Coach Ego’s vision wins a Super bowl then he’ll deserve every accolade that comes his way.
Like when Andy Reid lined up James Thrash and Todd Pinkston at WR. As good as Andy was at times…he was the most stubborn ego driven son of a bitch you could find.
yup…to stay in that job all those years you have to be stubborn for sure… they all are.
Well Toasty you are an expert on being out of touch…just read a lot of your own comments and your nickname…the burnt cornerback in Eagles history! Fitting indeed…no one is condemning Kelly but Reid has some playoff wins around here…Kelly hasn’t proved that he is this great coach at all. The cutting of DJax without getting anything at all for him will down in Eagles history has one of the dumbest moves ever…it’s very close to Reid’s making Castillo the defensive coordinator
The eagles defense was the worst that year the main reason was they didn’t have a defensive coordinator. That was Reid’s down fall not the offense cause I think if he was here last year Vick was gone.
again that further proves he lost touch with his core values… i was a big reid supporter but he lost it…….he went the FA route (like the bloggers like) and went away from build from within with character people…
Those last three years were horrible, but Cigar please don’t go there with the character guys please don’t.
maybe character isn’t the right word… ‘his people’ would probably be more accurate..’his type of guy’ kind of thing..
and by his kind of guys i include washburn and the O line coach who’s name escapes me now… AR put many a good young coach in the limelight and then was completely disloyal to mcdermott and brought in all-star coaches… i’m telling you nfl is a build from within league!
That would be OL Coach Howard Mudd..
RE : Sean McDermott has settled in pretty well with the Carolina Panthers and has helped them turn into a good Defense and it helps that GM/Front Office have used some high Draft Picks on that side of the ball (Luke Kuechly, Star Lotuleile, Kwann Short in recent Drafts)
If the Eagles draft Johnny Football I am done just done, build on what Nick Foles did last year and fix the defense that’s all. You do have to add to the WR corp we know that. Forget about Desean he’s not walking through that door, they want to go big at WR fine, so that rules out Cooks and Beckham why are they visiting the team ? This draft wnenever it gets here is going to be fascinating.
back away from the ledge lion…. thats just blogger b.s….
LOL
Kelly also values a mobile QB.
he does? really? hmmmmm? did you watch any games last year?
Dont do it HAC you will just get a headache. No matter what the facts are a lot of people on here just know better. No need to even bother bro…
I didn’t do anything??? i was pointing out that nick is the second coming of fran tarkenton!!!! I love it when people who haven’t spoken to a coach one time in their life know what they ‘value’ — i think its hilarious and certainly presumptious!
Sorta like Desean doesn’t fit his vision of what he wants in a WR? This stuff is all catch 22 Cigar you know it I know it I think we all know it. Most hilarious thing i saw yesterday pro football talk back to back stories. Chip Kelly says Desean was released for football reasons, the very next story was Jay Gruden says redskins are not concerned about what Desean does off the field. Amazing.
Why would any person of any intellect believe what a coach says to the press? every single thing they say is a smoke screen…everything…
Jeffrey Lurie’s words Cigar, he believes Chip Kelly’s vision. So he believes him this wasn’t spoken to a reporter this was Chip explaining to Lurie why Desean was cut.
oh you believe he disclosed everything do you? you also believe politicians when they campaign? wow!
So he lied to the owner or just didn’t disclose everything or now the owner is a liar too? Wow okay.
I have no problems with Foles. What im saying is if Djax put up pro bowl numbers and didnt fit Barney Rubbles vision and was released dont be surprised if Foles doesnt fit his vision , no matter what fucking stats he put up, I dont agree with that philosophy but Im not Barney Rubble.
if you think that statement yesterday meant a thing then you are a fool– ‘football decision’ is a very broad brush– very broad and it could incorporate that he thinks a football team is better without a jack ass– that innocuous statement basically said– we did it because we wanted to and you fools can read into it anyway you wish.
sometimes a coach has to take a step back to take 2 forward!
Like I said It was better when they were silent now they sound even more arrogant and condescending but hey no matter what they did or said people were still going to be upset. The only cure? Winning.
Good post Big. They had no choice but to speak on Monday and they kept it as vague as possible. What’s done is done and winning cures all.
Oh boy they better win! Kelly is getting waaay too much of a free ride. We were despondent by the worst coaching job in NFL during the 4 and 12 season. We had talent on the team but were sabotaged by Andy Reid. Kelly was competent last year he made good use of Shady McCoy and the running game and DJax in the passing game. However the genius tag of Kelly
is overrated and I believe ( i hope I am wrong) he is going to come crashing to earth this year
he has 3 qb’s on his roster…none are mobile. 2 he brought in himself…interesting
They’re not taking Manziel. Not after Foles performance, the drafting of Barkley, and the signing of Sanchez. That’s 3 qbs under the age of 27. 3 Qbs I think Kelly is more than comfortable with.
In fact, I’d argue may be the deepest postition on the team (and I am not a Sanchez fan – but I think he can come in and win a game or two and that’s all I ever expect from a backup.
That being said, they’re still going to draft O players. Big WR. New OL to replace Herremans, probably another TE…and….to really piss everyone off, perhaps a RB. ’cause there’s no way they carry McCoy into next year making $10 million at the RB position. That’s a big waste of $$.
Defense in 2015!!
Eagles New Mock Draft – (Straight up with no Trades)
Rd 1 – WR Cody Latimer (Indiana 6-3 – 215lbs)
Rd 2 – TE Troy Nicklas (Notre Dame 6-7 – 270lbs)
Rd 3 – DT Ego Ferguson (LSU 6-3 315lbs)
Rd 4 – CB Walt Aikens (LIberty 6-1 205lbs)
Rd 5 – Center/Guard Wes Johnson (Vanderbilt 6-5 300lbs)
Rd 7 – WR Strong Safety Daniel Sorensen (BYU 6-1 205lbs)
That’s it for now …
Paulman,
You’re not drafting a defensive player until the 3rd round and isn’t Latimer a reach in the first. The Eagles will have plenty of offense this year. The problem is the defensive. What’s the thinking?
The Eagles are very high on him , WR Latimer is projected as a Early 2nd Rounder by most and won’t be there at #54.. If you want a certain player or two, you have to select them when you have a chance…
Rd #2 Is my Sleeper Pick and a Player not really needed for 2014, but moving forward, he would make the perfect complement to Ertz who would be the primary Receiving Target at TE, while Nicklas would be a True TE and play and block and be a huge Red-Zone Target..
Chip Kelly loves his TE’s and the Future beyond 2014 for Celek & Casey are up in the air.. Celek for Salary Reasons and Casey for a lack of production reasons..
WR and TE in the first 2 rounds? I will throw up if this happens.
paulman….not to bad but I don’t like the 2nd round pick. There will be people on here that will hate your 3rd round pick bc he is ONLY 315lbs. Not fat enough!!
TE Nicklas at 6-7′ – 270lbs is a blocking machine and a huge Red-Zone Target Weapon as well as a short-yardage Blocker from the backfield that Zac Ertz will never be… ..
Split Niklas out wide and clear out LB’s or Safeties and then you have McCoy,Sproles, Maclin catching the ball out in the flat and taking off downfield..
Paulman:
Let’s all submit ONE final mock draft next Thursday and see who is closer to who the Eagles draft. Right now my draft would be:
Rd 1 – CB – Kyle Fuller
Rd 2 – OLB – Marcus Smith
Rd 3 – WR – Martavis Bryant
Rd 4 – ILB – Christian Jones
Rd 5 – DE – Taylor Hart
Rd 7 – Ol – Spencer Long
Good Idea– here’s mine:
1- Best player available
2- Best available
oops-
rounds 3-7 best player available
and if the opportunity presents itself for a trade up or down they will do it…
So what if the BPA is a QB or RB? Do your predictions still stand?
I like your Mock Oldphillyfan… I would be very happy with these Selections
I do believe a DT had to be selected somewhere..
I will have a Final 2 Mock Drafts
#1) Will be who I would like the Eagles to Select
#2) Will be the one I think the Eagles will Select
I like this draft order. But if Anthony Barr is available at #22 you have to take him. He’s gonna be a beast in the NFL
Since they were in a talking mood yesterday I would love to know what they thought about the anonymous sources and DJax being a bad teammate and him cursing out Kelly in front if the team and being late to meetings. It’s like that stuff never existed. Hmmm
BL i thought you understood this stuff… they were taking the high road! they aren’t going to say that stuff publicly– i thought you understood that! As for what he told laurie? are you crazy– they were complicent they both know the exact story…he didn’t lie to lurie! hilarious!
But here’s the thing Cigar they can’t have it both ways either you come out and say these reports aren’t true, then you can take the high road. See what I’m saying?
Because now it looks like you have a locker room full of anonymous rats. Who are a bunch of petty liars.
sure you can!!!! they said the reports had nothing to do with it, then they said it was football…
truth of the matter is it was a football decision the coach feels that djax brought more minuses than pluses…
dude people of high leadership positions double talk constently- i don’t know why anyone on here believes or cares what these guys say– they don’t owe us a truthful explanation… they flat out don’t-
That’s why they were better off not answering any of the questions asked yesterday.
We deserve answers!(A month worth of posts)
They should have said nothing!(After we get supposed answers)
Lmao
Why give bs answers that nobody believes and you know damn well aren’t true? Just stay silent instead of giving more ridiculous ass reasons. As fans we don’t deserve anything but a winner so keep winning.
I don’t think they wanted to have $10 million tied up in a guy that was shutdown in the playoff game. I think they’d prefer to draft a couple of young receivers and spend the $10 million elsewhere. I agree with this approach.
They bungled the handling of the situation; we should have been able to get at least a 5th rounder for Jackson.
Bottom line, not many Teams at all were going to take on D-Jax’s $34.5 Million owed to him per his Contract over the next 3 Seasons with this type of the Draft Class this Year at the WR Position
No matter if there was off-the-field stories and innuendo that were out there, the entire WR Market was extremely very flat and almost non-existent this Free-Agency Period..
Yep!!!
They gave a really good deal to a guy taking out his outlier year was a 50rec 1k yd 5td receiver.
His best year…with a new coach with a new system predicated on the run with an accurate QB who can make good decisions. At 10 million per and they way they structured the contract all sides knew this was a renegotiate year. The coach has a vision for his team. Good or bad you let him play his vision out and go from there.
Personally I’ve been done with DeSean for a while, just because hes the better version of Devery Henderson. He was never a dominant no.1 WR and was overvalued in AR throw a million times a game with an inaccurate QB who was long range thrower.
The way it was handled most definitely couldve have been better. However they never insinuated anything and all their moves before hand let you know they were moving in a different direction.
I saw a million posts about a smear campaign…which was laughable because they covered up his weed driving arrest and from the gang officers mouth they blew him off multiple times when he tried to contact him about DeSean.
Simple truth. DeSean had an awesome top 10 year last year. However around the league etc…hes not a top 10 Wr.
Build an offense to accentuate our Top 2 RB and at worst Top 5 OL.
After having to sit through an OL Coach becoming an D Coordinator and D coordinator with the Wide 9 debacle. Man this is nothing to be worried about.
Jeff Maclane of the Phila. Inquirer went back to watch the game (Saints Eagles playoff) and reported that DeSean was actually open 7-8 times where Foles did not see him and actually missed him on two sure TD’s, instead he threw the Ball to Celek. Maclane put that clearly on Foles shoulders. I will go back and watch myself when I get a moment. Not concerned about the DJAX situation anymore as it is dust under the rug….but, I thought it was an interesting report opposed to the others that say he was shut down.
EHL after the game Kelly acknowledged that Desean was open and Foles didn’t deliver the ball, I said immediately after the game the camera angles NBC used to show he was shut down actually showed him running free. People only believe what they want to hear. The game was lost in a sense when these plays were missed in the first half. But hey blind sheep you know the drill.
Let me add this EHL I am not blaming the QB, every QB misses on reads and throws it’s part of the game of Football, wanted too clarify that.
BL…I didn’t even hear the reports that he was actually open. He did look like he was shut down. Wow. I’m moving on from the move….but damn, every time I’m ready to something else either comes up or I learn something new that stirs me up again.
Yep here is some more EHL of the 21 pass plays in the first half Desean was in, he was covered 9 times by Lewis man to man and was open on 5 of the 9 plays. Lewis played well but shut down nope. The other plays were against a zone defense.
Jeesh…Kelly aka Barney Rubble better be right.
The Playoff Game versus the Saints was lost for 1 main reason
The Eagles Defensive Front 7, were pushed around all Game long and couldn’t stop the 3rd & 4th and Shorts all game… The Saints over the last half of last Season became more of a Power-Running Team for their HC Payton knows this is the only way to compete versus the 49ers,Seahawks to advance further in the Playoffs, Also TE Jimmy Graham was banged up the last month of their Season and lost most of his explosion and was used more as a decoy and the Saints were also playing a Rookie LT their last few games as well.. The Saints adjusted their Game Plans and Offense Formations to be more of a Running Team while the Eagles Defense was prepared that Brees was going to lead a heavy passing attack which simply was not the case
This is the biggest reason the Eagles loss, they were not prepared to stop the Rushing Attack of the Saints.. Now fast forward to 2014 and most of the Eagles Opponents will attack and game plan similar to what the Saints did, and that is to attack the Eagles Defense right up the gut and in between the Tackles and take advantage of the smaller ILB the Eagles have in Kendricks & Ryans
The most perplexing thing to me this off-season is that the Eagles have not addressed the DT Position with any acquisitions and there were a lot of quality DT’s in Free-Agency this Year and this Draft as pretty think at DT.. I have to believe they will Draft a DT early for I hope the Eagles are not relying on a DT Tandem of Logan & Square, for if they do, We will see opponents attack the middle of this Eagles Defense all Season Long…
The Eagles Defensive Front was pushed around…especially in the fourth quarter and the offensive line didn’t play well. However, the biggest reason for the Eagles loss was Nick Foles poor first half play when the defense had forced two turnovers that we couldn’t take advantage of…and has the film showed and Jeff Mclane showed…DJax was running wide open and Foles didn’t take advantage of it until later in the game.
He has moments when he simply tightens up…he showed that last year against Dallas and he shows it in tight, difficult situations…
I agree…we need to address the defense in the worst way…we need to shift our focus of our team from the offense to the defense!
Yep and then Foles and the offense got a lead late in the 4th quarter.
-Then he kicked the ball short to Sproles….
-Horse-collared him…
-and then anchored the d-line that let the saints run out the clock and kick a game winning FG.
He may have missed some plays but he also made some in that game including a TD pass to put the Eagles ahead with 4:44 left in the game. Try to present the whole story instead of just the parts that attempt to prove your side.
According to HotAir Foles missed Djax ALOT last year….Alot is a factual statistical term teams use in the NFL to track effectiveness. LMAO
A 70% completion percentage > ALOT.
HAHAHAHAHA
Foles missed DJax a lot of time all year…there were plenty of times that the film showed DJax running open behind CB’s…open and Foles couldn’t get him the ball.
EHL…your right the DJax situation is over…but we are looking at the direction of the Eagles management and it surely doesn’t fill any reasonable fan with hope. We have to question and assess their decisions…and they have a lot to prove!
Dumbass statement of the year again….He hit on 70% of his targets to DJax…
LMAO HE MISSED HIM A LOT OF THE TIME ALL YEAR.
70%…..
Fool ass…the 70% are passes that he actually threw to Jackson it doesn’t account for the times he was running open and Foles didn’t throw the ball to him, the times he checked down instead of throwing it deep to Jackson
Shut the F&@k up Toasty LOL you are ignorant about football Negro!
You know jack.
You flip flop back track then disappear…..that’s your M.O. Then you circle back to the same shit and put a new slant on it after you were proven wrong.
70% pass completion to the most targeted player on the team and your complaining about missed throws. Again you show your biased idiot agenda.
Vick would have made all those throws right?
Kelly was a joke and couldnt handle DeSean..now hes a man….
It was Lurie all along….lmao
FLIP FLOPPING FOOL ASS NEGRO.
LOL Toasty ass Crusty Negro…your so stupid with your pom-pom management agenda…Foles is not Peyton Manning or Tom Brady Fool….even he admits there is room for him to improve! His deep ball was not that good…there where a lot of times he wouldn’t throw into tight windows, he held the ball and took unnecessary sacks at times fool! In many of these instances DJax was running free.
Stop whining and man up…my positions are clear…your M.O. Is to simply kiss the organizations ass no matter what and you’ve got a bullshit excuse for everything…..Beat it Fool
You’re positions aren’t clear Hot Air you flip flop and race bait and talk out of your ass. That’s your position.
You think Vick should’ve been the QB. That just shows how much a dumbass you are. Just like when you thought season was over when Foles came in. Then as usual you look stupid. So then you just point to negatives lol. Clueless.
Congratulations to Adam Silver and the NBA for doing the right thing by banning the racist slum lord himself Donald Sterling for life!
Now id like to see Magic Johnson and his group step in and buy the Clippers outright.. Great day for the players, coaches and fans..
Sad day for the world realizing that racism is still alive, wish we could ignore it but its right in our faces…
Ignoring it is committing a racist act in itself…
Hopefully that prick Goodell will get off his ass and make the Washington football team change their racist name! I hate the NBA but they got this one 100% right– while i love football and Goodell lets that sniveling f. head dan snyder stick his middle finger up at him!
Had to be done JH you better believe Silver had the blessings of the other owners, they didn’t want the other shoe to drop and have companies questioning if they wanted to be involved with the NBA.
Funny tho Irsay gets behind the wheel drunk, could have killed someone and gets put in for treatment– snyder has a racist team name, emblem and yet both continue…. I don’t get it.
You wouldn’t.
you are saying that a racist team name is ok but a racist owner isn’t?
haveacigar what I am saying is Riley Coopers comments are closer to Donald Sterlings comments. The only difference is Sterling was banned for life and Cooper got a 5 years deal. That’s a better comparison than some owner who inherited a team name that’s been around for 50 years. Different situations.
Hell Sterling atleast had the courtesy of saying blacks and not use the N word. lol
Wow… I can’t compare what Riley said to the meaning and impact Donald Sterling had with his words.. Riley was wasted and used a terrible word when wanting to fight someone… Sterling was much more mean spirited, he doesn’t want people to attend games or be around him for being a certain color. Riley is an idiot but Sterling is a hateful sonofabitch.
I never mentioned cooper… I was referring to a billionaire owner who markets a racist logo, racist name and has told the commish to FU… It is a different situation… A billionaire owner flaunting racism or an asshole player? Nfl allows murderers, druggies, felons in the league as players…allowing a racist is mild compared to that… But at the owners level I say the nba 1 and the nfl 0
Cooper and Sterling have the same bloodlines.. yikes
JH… Those two don’t have the same bloodlines
Lesean Mccoy is the MVP of this offense. Desean complimented it, but he was never THAT star player on our squad like Shady is. He’s going to go down as one of the greatest ever..period. He’s already on his way to the greatest in franchise history. Shit you probably can already check the box and seal him the greatest RB in Eagles history if you want. He’s definatley the most talented ever. He’s not going anywhere. He’s 25 years old and is the FLoyd M of NFL RBS. He avoids the most contact by far for his position. He’ll still be doing his thing IF he’s healthy by 30-32.
That being said HES NOT GOING ANYWHERE. He’s already cleaned up his aact tremendously. Even he will learn off this Desean situation. How can any of you guys want or say u want Shady off the team. We’ve already got rid of Michael Vick and Desean. That alone makes us look better and liked more by the world. IDC how much Lesean is getting paid. If you ask me he’s underpaid for his position. Lesean isn’t just a good player. he’s a great one. You pay the great ones.
Shady is a Asshole. He talks to much, he throws women off buses on the Atlantic City Expressway. He feud’s with multiple players, He is on twitter airing his business with his babies momma. He says Moreno sucks. He stiffs bar tabs and doesn’t tip when hes home in Harrisburg. He is always running his mouth. He is a hell of a football player but his time will come. Do I want him to go? Hell no but he is very immature.
Yep, he sure acts like one often off the field and if he doesn’t clean up his act off the field, this will be Shady’s last Season as an Eagle.. He’s embarrassing Himself and the Organization..
I have stated since Coach Kelly was announced as the HC for the Eagles that the “Big-3” – (Vick, D-Jax & McCoy would all be gone within 2 Years)
I would look to Trade him next Off-Season and get some Picks in return, which means don’t be surprised to see the Eagles Draft a RB in the Mid-Rounds this Draft ….
Out with the Old, and In with the New.. Go Eagles…
Paulman you know better than that I don’t care if he becomes a born again christian and leads prayer revivals, unless he comes off that cap number next year he’ll be playing elsewhere. That is the vision and you know it.
I guess we should all just fall in…hook, line, and sinker…for the ‘organization’. I mean they obviously know best…look at all of the Super Bowl championships Jeff Lurie has brought to town, the parades, and championship rings. Football geniuses these guys truly are and we should simply bow our heads before their brilliance!
Yeah…out with the ‘old’ and in with the ‘new’…guys who make no noise…All-Pro guys like Riley Cooper who strikes fear into defenses hearts(by way of his ‘toughness’-“I’ll kick every N*%&# ass in here” , Nick “The Cannon Arm’ Foles who defenses see has the second coming of Tom Brady…and our shut down defense who offenses are shaking in their boots at.
Yeah…in with the ‘new’ alright….this ‘new’ better win a Super Bowl, Paulman…they better back up your claims up…or its going to get ugly
The hypocrisy continues…and the stench is downright appalling! After a month of lies, innuendo, deceit, slander, and foolish claims…the Eagles management comes out and tells us it was a ‘football decision’.
Yeah…a “football decision” by Jeffery Lurie!~
Chip Kelly to his credit killed all of the notions that DJax was a ‘locker room problem’ that refused to get along with the coach. However, anyone who watched the interviews could see clearly who was driving this car. Jeff Lurie had the unmitigated gall to suggest that DJax came up short in the playoffs…ignoring when he was running free and open in the Saints secondary and Foles failed to get him the ball…the reality is that Lurie wanted DJax out because of the money and the Coach said oh well we will figure something out!
Chip showed some integrity by refusing to bash DJax and belittle him…but this is clearly a move by the owner….who is obviously sticking his nose into football decisions!
Ladies Chicken Little has entered the building. The Sky is falling….its over. BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH
Shut up already.
LOL…is that all you got…weak ass Negro! I know you feel like so toasty Izzel…after weeks of pontificating and ass kissing the Eagles management they come out and speak and discrediting all of your ridiculous and ignorant claims. Sit your house negro ass somewhere, Toast!
Fool please. You post nonsense and no one backs you up. Your the black tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist. Lmao first it was a smear campaing by the Eagles. Then it was Kelly couldnt handle players and he was soft and he was this. Then its that now. Lmao now youre inferring its Lurie meddling.
Just face the fact you’re an idiot.
LOL I’ll take that has a compliment coming from you toasty! I don’t need ‘backup’ ….because I’m not a front runner like you…..I’ve been consistent in being critical of Eagles management…check the record fool
You’ve been consistent on being a flip flopping jackass. I commend you on your consistency in that department.
Negro please. You just post dumb ass innuendo like no one with a brain sees your stupidity. You hyped Vick up and downplay Foles when most up you posts are the epitome of you just wanting to say “Vick got railroaded for this weak ass whiteboy”. See I said it for you.
You just talk hype Chicken Little. You keep saying the same shit because eventually….somewhere…sometime…you’re going to be right and can say I told you so. Internet hypebeast.
Fool ass Negro……nobody told your clown ass to do any ‘figuring’ or speculating. When Vick got hurt and Foles took over show one statement from me arguing that Vick should be put back in? Show one fool!
Dumb ass clown negro…show one statement from me that said in this upcoming season Vick should be the starter or that Vick should have been on this team! Show one statement from me saying that Vick should have gotten the job back after he got hurt!
Your are all confused , Toasty…your brain is cooked…your whole agenda is to be a shrill for management….massa in the big house says it’s right so you going find a way to make it right no matter how stupid it is and no matter how much it contradicts common, football sense.
Toasty the Clown….you are a fool
Typical Old Chicken Little Ninja response.
Get a clue. Your post are nothing but WIP Cataldi morning show nonsense. No substance just innuendo and bullshit.
Don’t flip flop on Vick now ninja. When you were co signing the downfall of the offense when Foles hypocrite even after wins. Lmao I love dumbasses like you. Like your TS consigns when it was over for MCCoy when Vick got hurt.
Oh and a guy who had 27/7 in less games and better stats then Vicks ENTIRE CAREER. Lmao Same Vick you made excuses for about how it was the schedule ad that’s why Foles put up big numbers.
Chicken Little Ass Fool.
I already have your Post Draft post.
“This is ridiculous…blah blah blah! This regime…blah blah blah! Howie…blah blah blah! Foles is gonna come crashing…blah blah blah…, Smear campaign…blah blah blah!”
Hot air you are stupid.. Football decision means he was such an asshole we are better off without him. Man you can’t read between the lines
Foolasscigar…you are ignorant…football decision actually means they didn’t want to spend the money. You don’t have to read between any lines fool…its in bold, print…flashing neon signs saying “Its the Money, Stupid”
You still can’t read it!
You think Vick was a better QB option than Foles….and you’re qouted on that.
LMAO IDIOT.
Sure I’m quoted on that fool…he kicked his ass in training camp…they went head up and he objectively proved that he was a better option…the Eagles played a tough starting schedule with 3 games in 11 days against playoff team, the defense was horrible and Vick played well. He got hurt…Foles came in and got hot against the worst teams in the NFL…we barely squeezed into the playoffs and saw a sub-par performance from Foles and the Eagles at home against the Saints…
Check the record, Fool!
What a twisted fool ass sense of logic you have.
Stop showing your teeth minstrel show.
Like Vick’s career sub par performances in big games and the playoffs? How many playoff wins did Vick have for the Eagles? I’m not even a Foles fan and you are full of shit.
Negro please.
You are a shifty Organization Negro who is ready bail at any moment to be able hold your hand up and say….”see massa I told em we was right”
Shut up Fool ass negro!
no coach belittles a former player… do you pay attention.
djax was an a.hole and having an a.hole around affects the team…hence a football decision!
The QB has come out and stated directly that DJax was good teammate, Shady has done it…along with other players…Chip Kelly says that he never yelled at DJax, and that Djax never yelled at him…if Djax was having a negative impact on the team he could have said something like…”yeah we had some disagreement with Djax but nothing unusual’…Kelly debunked any indications that Djax was a problem in the locker room…the Eagles ‘football decision’ with a guy who gave them 82 and 1330 yards…we all know that was ridiculous…no..plain and simple it was a money decision and the Eagles didn’t want to ante up…just like they don’t want to ante up with Evan Mathis and are trying to trade him!
Open your eyes…stop being a lackey for Eagles management…they don’t deserve blind support…they have never won!!!
It was a smear campaign remember….it was despicable and it was basically racism right….lmao like no one could read between the lines of your angry black man posts….negro sit the hell down and shut up.
hot air…are you a professional? do you have common manners? have you ever been taught common courtesy? probably not to any of those questions but shady and foles have… you don’t come out in public and say bad things about another person….
haveablunt…you and toasty are both kiss asses for the Eagles management…they can piss on your head and tell you its raining, and you both would say that they are ‘professional passers’! Stop it…the Eagles leaked the info tho NJ.com and then cut Jackson…they were ‘professional’ cutthroats trying to gut his career….just like that ‘professional’ bonus check for $0.00 they gave to Evan Mathis.
The fact of the matter is that there was nothing…absolutely nothing of substance that came out that said that DJax was an a-hole…and even if he was…he was an a-hole that produced fool!
Those 82 catches and 1300 yards affects the team too…which is why Shady is shaking his head wondering what the hell they are doing.
Its clear…it wasn’t a football on the field decision…it was a business decision about the money…and the ‘professional’ Eagles are professional cutthroats.
If they win…be my guest..cut all the throats of All-Pros that you want….but they damm sure better win!!
believe what you want… there is more in what they are not saying then in what the said.;..
i don’t know anything about them leaking this or that and neither do you…
all i know is teams and ex players don’t rip ex players when they are gone…
That’s common sense. Do you really think HotAir has that?
well you like ‘reading in between the lines’ when it comes to bashing the players…but when it comes to seeing the obvious about the Eagles management….you and Toasty become blind bats: Look at NJ.com’s headline: “DeSean Jackson’s gang connections troubling to Eagles”….how did NJ.com know that Jackson’s “gang connections” were “troubling” to the Eagles? …Presto…right after the article…DJax is released and management goes mum for a month!
Stan Hochman made a great point this morning…if you buy that the Eagles released DJax for ‘football’ reasons…Jeffrey Lurie can sell you the Betsy Ross Bridge!
and none of this matters anymore KB ..
Any explanation that the Team would say is not to be good enough for some, but what can you do, sit and bitch about it for the rest of the Season, what’s done is done.. The Team has moved on, D-Jax has moved on and the Sun still comes up every morning..
We will never know the full story of the how and why, and even if we did, what difference does it make ?
“He’s gone, and nothing is bringing him back” ..
Paulman…its not about bringing him back it’s about showing and discussing the direction of the team and assessing how they will do in the future. As Eagles fans in a football forum we are making assessments about the teams direction. I predict that this is a crippling blow that will set the team back this year. When we finish 7-9 out of the playoffs….I don’t want to hear the bullshit from those who supported the organization on this stupid move

That would be a nice draft.
No it wouldn’t.
I like the players, especially the first two. I’m to the point where I believe the players I want will not be there at twenty two like Barr and Pryor. However, If Barr and Seferian-Jenkins is there where the Eagles pick in the 1st 2 rounds, that’s good value. I’d take Bucannon with my second pick if available, but, I’m looking at it from a value perspective at this point.
Deone Buchannon has fallen to probably a 3rd Round Selection
IN fact, many of the Safety’s (after Dix,Pryor) have fallen in recent weeks
Part of it is the fave that there were a ton of Safety Free-Agent Moves this Off-Season in which many Safety’s got some big deals and contracts (Byrd,Whitner,Ward,Mitchell,Jenkins,Delmas,Clark, etc, etc, that many Teams may feel that they already addressed their Safety Position in Free-Agency and therefore are less likely to Draft a Safety with an Early Round Pick..
I expect there will be some good Safety Prospects still on the Board in the 4th/5th Rounds
Paul, I don’t concern myself with what the pundits say where someone has fallen. His game tape and his combine workouts places my value on him in the second round. Remember our bet! Bruce Irvin was supposed to be a 3rd round choice. Seattle drafted him at like # 15 in the first round. It’s all about where each team places him on their draft board, not what the pundits say. I’ve seen NFL Network mocks have Bucannon going at the bottom of the first.
We’ll see EHL..
I like Buchannon as well and think he will make a nice a very good NFL Player.. I just don’t see the Eagles addressing the Safety Position until a Mid to Late Round this Draft
If that’s the case it just continues to hi lite their lack of commitment to truly strengthening the defense with top notch talent.
Marquis Lee. Mock drafts and different names keep swirling around for the Eagles but there has been one constant. It always seems to come back to Barney Rubble really really like Marquise Lee. He knows him and hes coached against him. I really think this is going to be the Eagles pick at 22. Its kinda like everyone knew Ertz was ging to be a Eagle.
Putting Lee in the slot upgrades what Avant did tremendously. That will offset Maclin taking over for Djax.
I don’t see WR Lee lasting very long as a pure slot WR
His built like Maclin and pretty thin and I wonder for how long, that he could take those hits from LB & Safety’s when playing the slot role..
Lee also is probably not quick or explosive enough to play the outside WR for his lack of top end speed.. I don’t like Lee for this Offense and especially with their 1st Round Pick..
Lee is probably the most polished, NFL WR in this Draft and runs good routes and good hands, but he’s too similar to Maclin in my opinion and would prefer a bigger, stronger WR for the slot role or a real real speedster for the outside and Lee is neither of these..though I think he will be a solid productive WR in the NFL..
I would rather have a DaVante Adams,
Dontae Moncrief or Jarvis Landry in the Slot for the Eagles
then Marquise Lee..
They may go tight end instead of wr to replace mesean. And I don’t want lee either there are only 3wrs I would be ok with them taking in the 1st rd cooks, latimer &evans.
Gloomy, I think Cooks goes to the Jets. I agree with you about Lee, I don’t want ODB either. I can’t see them trading away what would be necessary to get up to get Mike Evans (sorry Izell). I can see them taking Latimer if the defensive talent is not available at 22. I’d still consider trading down to get an extra 2 and take Bucannon and christian Jones with those picks.I still like Martavis Byant too. I think a year in this system would benefit him and he would be primed for a great 2nd year.
I wouldn’t take Donta Johnson with my 86th, I think Telvin Smith would be gone by 122 also. Oh well, 8 days to go! Goodell needs to move the draft back to April, this wait is brutal!
Yeah that’s why I called it off the wall mock draft I don’t think cooks will be there and I’ve been saying trade down now for the longest only players I’m taking @22 is cooks or Barr that’s it nobody else. And telvin smith said he wants no parts of playing safety says he’s a lb but he is to small to play there I’m all in though trade back get more picks. I’ll have a mock with trades coming soon.
I know Telvin Smith doesn’t want to play safety, I don’t know if he will be able to hold up and be productive as a linebacker at his current weight. He is a hitter, but he just doesn’t possess the frame needed to stay healthy at that position. Barr is my #1 pick if available bar none (pun intended)
I said that earlier this month, that if Eric Ebron fell to 22, I could absolutely see Kelly taking him.
Absolutely. But I don’t think that will happen.

Where’s the with the DL and Pass-Rush/ Gloomy??
Dontae Johnson Projects as a Safety in the NFL , which was his best Position while at NC State and was partnered with Eagle Safety Wolff
I like Dontae Johnson a lot and think he will definitely be targeted by the Eagles in the 4th/5th Round
But Telvin Smith?? Where does he play?? Way to small for LB, converting him to a Safety when you already Selected Dontae Johnson would be puzzling..
TE Jenkins is a interesting prospect.. very Talented, good Hands and some down the field speed for a big guy, but I am concerned about his lack of blocking, focus and his work-ethic & attitude have been questioned while in College.. I believe that Eagles have their Receiving TE in Ertz already and will look for a more physical in-line TE this Draft which is not Jenkins strength
LB Ron Powell is another interesting Prospect, He was the Overall #1 Rated High School Football in the entire Country back in 2010 when he went to Florida.. had a major knee Injury the end of 2012, that slowed him up to start but ended up with a strong 2013 Season, but I am not sure about his Size at OLB for the Eagles 3-4 Scheme..
I believe he projects better as a OLB for a 4-3 Scheme.. He can move, plays fast, is strong in coverages and can blitz and get into the backfield but at 235lbs, I believe the Eagles are looking for thise longer, bigger, OLB’s in that 6-5″ Range and 250lbs +

Someone hide that “Draft Trade Chart” from Gloomy…
Jets and no other Team are not Trading 4 Draft Picks (a 2nd Rd,a 3rd Rd and 2 4th Rounders) for the # 22 Pick of the 1st Round.. That’s crazy for them
Gloomy your problem here is that you give waaaaaay too much value to the 22th pick. In this draft which everyone is saying is so rich with talent…no one is going to give up 4 picks to move up to 22…no way the Jets do that!
The Compensation Gloomy is talking about would only occur if the Draft Pick was a Top # 10 Pick and not a #22nd Pick
So if they trade out of the 1st what are they gonna get then just a 2nd or just a3rd let me know.
If Trading out of #22 All together they would get probably 2 Picks in Return (a 2nd & 3rd) or a (2nd and 4th) depending which Team they Trade to and where they are positioned on the Draft Board
It it’s a Top 5-10 Team on the Draft Board (like the Texans,Jags,Raiders) then probably a 2nd & 4th (since it’s a early 4th)
It’s a Bottom 10 Team like the 49ers,Broncos,etc, than probably a late 2nd and a late 3rd probably is more likely
Ok Paulman they would either give that up or some of those picks would be in 1
2015
To continue my contrarian way of thinking, here I am announcing that, despite being a Foles fan, I do not want him to have a very good season.
The team, especially with the D, is not good enough to win a SB (in my opinion). If Foles continues the run he had last year and puts up 40+tds with 10 or less Ints on the way to 11-5 or so will cripple the franchise for several years.
He does that and he’ll be offered a 5-7 year well over $100million deal that will handcuff the franchise.
This cannot happen.
What needs to happen is a nice 9-7 or 10-6…maybe 30tds 15 ints. Then get him signed to a 5 year $85 mill (in reality a 3 year 45 million deal that would be renegotiated after 3rd year – very common for QBs)
A $15 million dollar 3 year deal would put the Eagles in very good position for Foles prime. They’d get 5-6 years competing for the prize. He’d eventually sign a new crippling contract, but they could fandangle another 2 seasons of competitiveness before the huge contract anihilates the team like it does every other team who signs a QB for $20 million+.
The team must win the SB before the crippling contract because its downhill after that (see Ravens, Saints, Giants, Pats, Seahawks etc)
I hear what your saying Vinnie
But there is no way Foles Salary is jumping to $20 Million regardless of his Personal Stats are in 2014, unless they were somehow to win the Super Bowl (like Joe Flacco did) but since this is extremely unlikely to occur, the Eagles are a 1st Round or maybe 2nd Round Playoff Team, but no further at this time for their Defense just does not have enough playmakers on it at this time…
No way paulman…this team needs to win…they better get those playmakers on defense in the draft and the offense better be a juggernaut that overwelhmes top rated defenses that they will play this year!
No excuses…their offensive line is old, and Chip Kelly’s system with all of the plays that are run…puts a lot of wear on the offensive line. I wonder if they ran out of gas in the playoffs because they got pushed around by an inferior defensive line…they had no push in the running game! So how many years to you think Peters, Herremans, and Mathis got left? They don’t have years to win…they have to win now!
They are very few Playmakers on Defense in this Draft KoolBreeze who will all be gone by the 15th Pick, everyone else on Defense is going to take a Season or Two…
The Eagles are not in Position Defensively to seriously challenge the Top 4 Teams in the NFC in 2014, by 2015-2016 they should be better positioned to compete for a deep run and maybe even a SB
Whats the Rush with everybody anyways, it’s not like this Team has won a SB or Championship in 50 Years… Some things take time and Chip Kelly is only starting in Year # 2 of his Program..
Paulman the” 5 year plans ” rarely work in this league…the Eagles were in a position to add some impact players like Jarius Byrd at safety, keep DJax for the offenseand add defense depth in this draft and see if Foles could make it work. Seattle and San Francisco are winning with young talent NOW… Not extended 5 year plans.
Again our Offensive line is peaking now, All-Pro Shady McCoy is at his peak NOW…there is no time to wait a few years down the road and hope to have the talent….it’s a flawed strategy!
Really? 5 year plans don’t work? Long term vision doesn’t work?
When did you start watching the NFL? 2013?
Look I knew you were young when you couldn;t catch Irish and my movie references a month ago. Maybe early 20s. But now my guess is you are 12. With a Desean poster above your bunkbed no less.
Why don’t you ask Seattle, SF, Baltimore, Saints, Steelers…etc etc what they think about your pathetic theory about not thinking long term.
Teams that lurch from FA to Fa like drunken idiots become the Raiders…well, actually I should say Redskins.
Vinny, here is the only problem with your argument. Those teams you mentioned have Superbowls, with Jeff Lurie, what are we in , year 20, that’s 4 five year plans and still waiting and counting. Something is being done wrong. Seatlle was a team without asuperbowl up until this year. People including myself who critique or criticize moves the Eagles make are no less Eagles fans than those of you who think they are without fault and can do no wrong…and there are some on here like that. You felt they made a stupid decision bringing in Vick…and they failed to win with him, their plan failed. The problem with the Eagles in my opinion is that historically they devalue positions which has come back to bite them, they choose not to pay certain positions even if the talent at the position is worth the pay. Once again we are cap champs though. It gets trite and frustrating! Play off appearances aren’t good enough anymore, been there done that. A superbowl is the only true measure of success for thisorganization now, which they have yet to capture. We can’t sit back and surmise that they know the exact formula for success now because so far, the proof is in the pudding. As someone’s moniker on here is Eagles 0 Superbowls.
Thank you EHL, same disagreement I had with Izell. People can swallow what they are shoveling and condone every move made but the bottom line is the Gold Standard has produced 0 Super Bowls so Chip Kelly your on the clock and no you don’t get 5 years. That would apply to anyone hired after Reid, Gus Bradley or whoever. We sat back thinking next year was our year with Reid until he went over the deep end the last 3 years.
Just Stop, We had a good window to win under reid then we signed a bunch of names with no character at the end. How did that work out. People bitch about Jerivicious running forever in 2002..that didnt cost us the game our offense cost us the game..I would say every year we lost was on the offense up to and including 2008 against arizona. It amazes me how the media in this city manipulates fan opinion. Bottom line is when you have a plan and stick to it, you go to the playoffs and have a good chance every year. Even with a guy that barfs in the big games. If there was one flaw in that plan it was that the Eagles drafted Mediocre to bad from about 2004-2011. You draft well and have good players you stick to your plan and good things happen. When you deviate you become the Redskins. It take gut to do what the Eagles did, rage all you want but they did what they thought was best for the team. That’s pretty obvious. Get the right QB, draft well and add a strategic FA every once in a while…NFL franchise are all buffoons there are some really good ones out there. Look at New England they follow their plan every year with a great QB…win tons of games…Havent won a bowl in 10 years….Stick to the plan.
Coach AR’s and the Eagles Window closed in 2008 with back to back humiliating lopsided losses to the Cowboys to end that Season.. This also ended the McNabb ERA and should have ended Coach AR’s era, the Eagles Franchise were stuck in the mud and spinning wheels from 2009 theu 2012 with Front Office Issues (Banner & Reid relationship) Coach AR’s Personal Family Issues, a Dysfunctionable Coaching Staff and some very Poor Draft’s followed by Panic and Poor Free-Agency signings..
The Fact the Eagles even made the Playoffs in the 1st Year of the Chip Kelly Era is amazing even playing in a weak NFC East, but now the real work begins as Coach Kelly & Roseman mold this Franchise for the next 4-6-8 Years
Do not be surprised to see a few Veteran players moved, traded or released
BigL you swallowed What Andy Reid was supporting when I was done with Reid and McNabb the year after the Super Bowl and the T.O. But because after year 1 I’m not going to lose my mind about moves I’m wrong. If you think this team has legit Super Bowl contender status that’s more blind faith than anyone you guys rail against. This team has a couple good players and one great one. That’s it. I think y’all got used to overvaluing talent with Reid lmao.
Izell show me anything I ever wrote that would make you believe I swallowed any of Reid’s crap, see I was just as critical if the moves he made, i like Reid to this day I just don’t blindly agree with everything management and coaches put out there I think on my own.
Lol yet Big anyone who agreed with the Djax release was blindly following management and doesn’t think on their own. The Reid Eagles were done after the SuperBowl loss. It was the final bullet. If you kept supporting Reid and his nonsense after that I could say the same about you and others.
Just like im not going to blindly follow the Chicken Little logic that after 1 year and 1 move unfavorable move a Coach has cratered and blew up all chances for a team.
I think on my own. Anyone who thinks this team had top talent coming into last year after the Eagles blew 3 straight drafts going into 2012 is a fool.
Everyone wants to Chicken Little the DJax move yet the underlying problem for this team and its lack of talent on defense is Nate Allen being the only starter of 2 years of top 6 picks of the draft.
You end up with 20 million dollars in Cap space when you drafted a bunch of bum ass scrubs for 3 years and didnt resign them.
But lets not let facts get in the way.
Wrong again Izell you had dudes on this site falling all over themselves believing the crap being written about DJax, and trying to downplay what he brought to this offense. The best part of this is it will be settled with results on the field and through the draft. Also as bad as this team drafted how would last season have turned out without Foles who was drafted by who? And you seem to forget that it was always a goal of this franchise to be salary cap champs but yea blame the poor drafts for the excess cap space EVERY year.
Lol I could care less if somebody was falling over themselves believing whatever. I would have driven DJax to the airport after he laid down like a dog and I wouldnt have given him a big deal after continually producing as a no. 2.
I love how you bring up Foles as a god send now and if he falters what will you say? The kid had an excellent year last year no doubt but I’m not ready to back the Brinks truck up are you.
Also dont point 1 or 2 picks that Reid made on his way out the door when he basically had to start giving up final say and power. 30 picks in 3 years produced…1 Pro Bowler…in Foles a complete afterthought by the regime and most fans going into last year. Without Foles Nate Allen would have been the crown jewel of 3 straight drafts.
Stop the bullshit about salary camp champs lol. Under Reid the M.O. was lock guys up early whenever possible and roll the money over they just blew it on guys like Jevon Kearse Kevin Curtis and Namdi Asogmugha and Asante Samuels. They had excesse salary because after Brian Westbrook the last impact player this team developed was McCoy. POINT BLANK PERIOD.
But spin away some more nonsense.
From 2005 to 2012
With picks round 1 through 3. The Eagles had 30 picks. That produced 2 Pro Bowlers.
Lets have some more revisionist history bullshit about how Reid was great new regime is a joke etc etc etc Salary cap champs etc etc etc.
This team hasnt had homegrown superstar talent outside of LeSean McCoy in a decade.
Thats why we haven’t won shit and thats why Reid after the SuperBowl run was a complete joke.
Exactly Paulman. Realistically this team is still overcoming terrible talent evaluation from 2010-2012.
30+ players drafted during that period.
2 Pro Bowlers.
2010-2011 drafts took this team out of any reasonable contention for at least another year or two.
Those defensive impact players everyone is talking out their rear to draft should have been on the team by now.
Jarrett Allen Lindely Marsh Graham Clayton Sapp Teo Nesheim Matthews…
HORRID.
I agree 100 %..
How could you forget to mention 2nd ROund Pick Trevor Laws who was #40 Overall and Selected before WR D-JAx … Good Grief
DE/OLB Bryn Smith
This Years needs to be a big step up Season for F Cox & V Curry
I understand the win it all costs the we deserve sentiment…however its not realistic and doesnt work.
Denver alone from 2010-2012 had 3 pro bowlers and 11 starters from those drafts. And I believe Chris Harris was undrafted.
Barring the Lito/Brown draft Reid was absolutely atrocious drafting defensively.
Fans keep tossing around 20 million cap number. We only have that number becauese we had no impact drafted homegrown talent to draft it on.
If we had Earl Thomas instead of Graham half of that cap would be GONE.
2010-2011 drafts may go down as the worst drafts in Eagles history. Top 6 picks yielded 1 starter in Nate Allen.
But yeah we are contenders go all in spend everything year is bust Kelly is on notice. Idiotic thinking at its finest.
Vinnie I have heard some dumb ass stuff from you…but you have topped yourself with this in pure stupidity…Dumb ass!!! If Foles plays that well then he is a franchise QB and he deserves the money. If he plays that well then we will be in the SuperBowl contending team!
The front office job is to make it happen…spend the money and win….if they are a competent front office they won’t be handicapped and they will find a way to make it happen.
If the Eagles make the playoffs this year and win some playoff games, Foles will want the big money…not the common QB money…but the big money…he is going to argue that he had a excellent year without a top All-Pro receiver…he will say the year previous he only had 2 interceptions…if his agent is worth anything…he is going to fight for the top dollars!!!
He would deserve nothing less than Jay Cutler money and his agent would be a fool for agreeing to anything less, especially if he has a 35/10 season and they make the playofffs.
The Eagles are not obligated to pay him “Cutler $$”
IN fact the Eagles can do what the Panther have done with Newton and other Teams have done with Players coming off their Rookie Deals which is to exercise an option which Pays the Player the Average Salary of the Top 10 Players at the Position..
Panthers just locked up Newton for 2015 Season at $15 Million and of course a Team can extend and offer a long-term Deal any time once Teams get their Cap Space Worked out or if Team Wins in the Playoffs
Nothing needs to be done with Foles technically until after the 2015 Season, but of course, if he’s their Franchise QB, they will want to lock him up at a fair Number after the 2014 Season.. It all depends on how he plays and how the Team does, so they do not have to rush into anything for a while
I didn’t say the eagles are obligated to pay him anything paulman, I thought they were obligated to pay Desean 10.5 how did that workout? Are they obligated to pay Shady 9.7 next year? What i said was he shouldn’t ask for anything less than Cutler or even now Newton money if he plays anywhere near the way he played last year and the team wins.
It is truly amazing how some of you guys are so adamant about how much money the Eagles save every year! We win the best cap management team every year, we have a history under Lurie of losing good players due to money…and now after praising Nick Foles and exalting his abilities….you are hoping that he is not a superstar QB so the Eagles won’t have to pay him much?! WTF??
Listening and reading to more and more draft hype. I am getting the feeling that Kelly will be a “Buddy Ryan in reverse”….ignoring the needs of the defense to stockpile more and more offensive weapons. I hope I am wrong, but this draft will be a good indicator of how his years in Philly will play out.
Even though last year he drafted more defensive players then he did offensive players and brought in more defensive players than he did offensive players.
The Eagles strength is offense. There is no such thing as balance. The Seahawks are a defensive heavy team. The Broncos are an offensive heavy team. Build a juggernaut on one side first then go from there.
I just mentioned greenfan, I think Kelly puts to much emphasis on the ‘sports science’ stuff and he is relying on that and wearing the offensive line down. Running all of those plays during the year…playoff time…our offensive line gave us nothing in the running game. The age of the offensive line makes our winning window small…we have to win within the next two years. You can’t expect Peters, an unhappy Mathis, and Herremans to play at a high level beyond that. Replacing players on that level is very difficult!
We have to draft some impact defensive players in this draft and win now! No excuses!
wait? are you saying we didn’t run well? hmmmm
We didn’t run well against the Saints! Our O-line was pushed around in the money game!
Good point KB. Our OLine is probably the oldest unit on the team. Outside of Johnson, the rest are in their 30’s. I wouldn’t go as far as saying that we have a very small window, becuase frankly with the holes on this defense we can’t be considered a realistic SB threat until they are addressed. The fact that we did not make a run at DeMarcus Ware tells me that they don’t think they are only a player or two away….I am still more optimistic than during the last 5 Reid years, but ignoring this defense will have the team taking a step back no doubt.
I agree Greenfan, fixing the defense with fringe draft picks and 2nd tier talent while becoming a super power on offense looks to be Chip’s vision. Worked last year so hey let’s give it another shot.
Paulman you do realize when the eagles traded back with the cowboys they got a 2,3,5 on the Kevin Kolb and trade.
That’s Jerry Jones your Dealing with, not the Jets where Rex Ryan and their new GM love to keep their Draft PIcks..
Who would the Jets be Targeting at #22 bad enough in order to give 4 Draft Picks to the Eagles…
Kyle fuller or one of the other top cbs in the draft to be honest with you the jets are set only thing they need is a speed wr and a cb there qb is what is holding them they had a top 5 defense last year as well as a top 5 running game they just need a qb that’s why they got Vick but they also need a cb to replace cromartie. So they then can draft Kyle fuller and Brandon cooks
**** Paulman’s Mock Draft after getting a hold of Gloomy’s Draft Day
“Trade Chart” *****
1) Eagles Trade #22 Pick to Browns for their #26 and their later 3rd Round Pick (#83rd)

3) Eagles Trade Brandon Graham to the Falcons for their 5th Rd Pick (#147)
4) Eagles Trade Bryce Brown to the Titans for their 6th Rd (#186th)
Eagles Then Select the FOllowing
1st (#30) – WR Cody Latimer (Indiana 6-3 215lbs)
2nd (#54) – DT Da’Quan Jones (Penn State 6-3 325lbs)
3rd (#83) – OLB Trevor Reilly (Utah 6-5 245lbs)
3rd (#86) – CB Bashaud Breeland (Clemson 5-11 200lbs)
4th (#122) – DE Taylor Hart (Oregon 6-6 281lbs)

6th (#186) – WR Jeff Janis (Saginaw Valley St 6-3 220lbs)
7th (#237) – ILB Jeremiah George (Iowa State 5-11 240lbs)
After the Draft is over, Mel Kiper Jr suggests that Gloomy’s Draft Trade-Chart goes into the Hall of Fame…
Da’Quan Jones won’t be any good bc he isn’t 330+lbs, so why waste the pick. Thats what most of the “experts” on here are thinking.
I don’t think he will be good, because I don’t think he is good.
Exactly Eagle!!!
Why don’t you think he will be good?
I can sit here and say I don’t think someone will be good but its just words unless I give reasons why.
I’m going to say….Mack is going to be a good player but not someone who is Top 5 worthy. He had 1 game in his career against a quality opponent, Ohio St, and all of a sudden he’s a stud? He’ll be a good tackler but will lack in the play making ability.
I know all the experts are saying he is a stud, but they have this one wrong. LB’s are never Top 5 worthy in a draft!
Watching him play, I see a lack of physical skills/ability that I believe will be exposed on the NFL level. Not consistent in his play which either speaks to ability, conditioning, motivation/desire, skill or a combination there of. I do not see impact from Da’Quan Jones. Just a big body that could make some plays against inferior talnt that will not play on Sundays.
Funny On Iggles..
I believe a DT will be an early Selection.. They have to address the DT position and Jones from Penn State is a good looking Prospect with upside, size, athleticism and a high-motor, strong work ethic and would make a nice fit with the other young DL on the Team.. I think it’s an excellent Pick myself
No you get a rotation of Logan/Jones and you have 2 Young Players with upside for the next 6-8 Years in the middle of your Defense..
More mediocrity Paul….
Eagles send #22 to the

As much as I don’t want Benjamin I think the eagles are dumb enough to take him.
I don’t like this one at all Gloomy
Kelvin Benjamin will be a bust in the NFL, and so will his QB, Jeamis Winston….
Come on GM don’t be so Shellfish Bro….Winston will be a STEAL lol.
LOL, did he bother to grab some butter too, if not X I agree how shellfish. LOL
yeah if your gonna grab the crab why not the butter too…this kid is a nit wit lol….Between crabgate and rapegate he’s gonna lose millions before they are made. some alumni needs to smack him around some..where’s prime time?
Well when you get away with Date Rape….whats some seafood on a 5 finger discount….
LOL!!! IJ
Trying to get rehired by the school he started who fired him for beating up one the teachers. LMAO
Good one X!!!
Based on what GM?, Benjamin is physical enough right now to play TE and gifted enough to stay at wideout, so what constitutes a bust? Not being a all-pro by year 3? Winston football IQ wise is on par with any QB in the draft this year, still immature as hell but we’ll see if he gets that sense of entitlement under control before it leads to his downfall.
I don’t really see any skill Biggie. He’s just big – that’s it. He ‘s not fast doesn’t run good routes, doesn’t have the best of hands, and his attitude is a question mark as well…….I do not see an impactful NFL Player. I see just another glorified College Player – ala Manziel…. – coming into the draft
Not every corner in the SEC, is going to be drafted into the NFL. Some of his highlights may be exaggerated because of it.
I see Jaemis Winston in the same light…….He will get his chance, and his play will reveal it’s not on an NFL Level, and he too is overhyped…..
I’m telling you if Mel Kiper was a GM, he would have been fired 50 times over – He is wrong about a lot of these prospects. I think Kelvin Benjamin is just one of many through the years, as well as this year…
We will disagree on those two guys, I don’t pay attention to any of those talking heads because they aren’t accountable. Really look at Benjamin’s game tape you’ll see a kid who’s game changed immensely when he was challenged by his coaches to get serious. I know you cannot be knocking down his ability based off his competition. It that were true Mack wouldn’t be in the top 5 of this draft.
No Biggie I’m not. My call is that he doesn’t have what it takes to be an impact #1 receiver…..He doesn’t excel in anyway skill wise – outside natural size
The reasons why I feel that way won’t matter because that wouldn’t help anyone see him the way I do….So yes Biggie we respectfully agree to disagree…
I feel the same way about Marquise Lee, Brandon Cooks, Odell Beckham, and Mike Evans…..
What does SEC CB’s have to do with Benjamin? Yes he played Auburn in the title game but what about the rest of the season? Or do we evaluate someone by 1 game?
When I say bust, what I am saying is that – that prospect will not meet the expectation, and the hype, some place on him – per his career as a whole.
He doesn’t have to be a starter, or all pro first year to see this – for example:
Nick Foles played so well last pre- season, some were calling for him to start – for me his skill set proved he belonged in the NFL, and he had the potential to make an impact and he did…..
Not every prospect talked about on NFL AM, is going to be as good as they expect them to…..thus a bust..
You can say that for about 99% of any Player Drafted GMCliff…
Expectations are always unrealistic by most Fans/Media for most of the Players Drafted in the Early Rounds and especially those in the 1st Rd
Having a solid Career is not a Bust.. I consider a Bust as a Draft Pick who never sees the field as a Starter/Rotational Player and is out of Football by his 3rd Season before his Rookie Deal is even up
But what constitutes a solid career to some is a lackluster one that they will argue they find satisfying only because they’re trying to save face that their guy flopped in the pros…..
I can respect a SOLID career, but I also know what a bust is –
Trent Richardson is a bust…..who some said I was crazy for stating
Stephen Gilmore is a bust…..you said I was crazy….I beg to differ
Stephon Hill is a bust…..many said I was wrong…..not
Beany Wells is a bust……who some said I was crazy for stating….
I look beyond the obvious. Paul you would have to agree that with all the scouting all year long, and so- called professional evaluations, I am always amazed how often these scouts are wrong in their evaluations….Why would you say that is??
MY ANSWER IS THEY OVER ANALYZE, OUTTHINK THEMSELVES and are so critical, they talk themselves out of taking a serviceable player, and deceive themselves into coveting someone totally overrated, or just can’t play at the NFL Level….
What do you think Paul??
I liked Gilmore a lot out of College and he had this Season to turn things around before I write him off…
The Others in Richardson,Hill,Wells I did not see as NFL Productive Players..
As far as reasons why the Media and guy like Kiper, McShay,Mayock and many Scouting Services have to build up Players and overhyped them is that this is what they do for a living.. You can subscribe to Scoutings Service Reports,Magazines,Web-Sites, etc,etc as they generate $$$ for doing so..
You have certain Draft/Talent Evaluators that are tied emotionally, financially or for access to certain Coach,Programs, etc,etc so they naturally are going to overhype/build up their Players..
Bottom line it keeps them in the News, the Players,Coach’s and the College Program’s in the news which is why there is always a media biased to Players from Big-Name Programs like Alabama’s, Ohio State, USC, etc, etc…
Bring a Good College Football does not guarantee success at the NFL Level, Playing at a smaller School or Program also does not mean that a Players cannot make it in the NFL..
A couple of things have to stand out..
1) Athletically, is the Player up to NFL standards in strength, speed, size, etc,etc
2) Schematically – Can the Player fit your Teams System in a relatively short Period of Time
3) Desire & Work Ethic – Does the Player want to excell and become a great Player, is he Coachable, Mature, Responsible and willing to sacrifice for the betterment of the Team and put in the off-the field time that’s necessary to become a great Player, studying Film, Learning Tendencies about your Opponents, Learning Techniques from other Great Players, etc,etc
So many factors involved and #3 is the hardest to evaluate and know about for sure..
Many times it gets down to any Drafted Player getting into the right situation and then having the support system in place by Coach’s, Veteran Players to help that young Player mature into a True Professional NFL Player.
Teams Change Coach’s, Schemes, GM,s etc,etc so Players have to be adaptable also
For Instance . A Team Drafts you 2 Years ago as a DE in a 4-3 Scheme and this Year changes Coach’s and switch’s to a 3-4 Schemes, Now as a Player you are taking on different responsibilities, learning new schemes and techniques..putting on lbs, shedding lbs, etc, etc…
Sometimes a Player has bad luck also with Coaching Changes, Injuries, etc, etc… So a lot to factor
Thank you buddy….But with all that, there is no sure fire way to know if the players you’ve drafted are going to be a sure success…
Some times the GM’s just feel they have a feeling, or sixth sense about a player, or they are just assuming all that has been said can be taken for granted – like some on GCobb……
But realistically, they’re no better than most on GCobb…
Hahaha according to a certain fool Vick ran away with the Preseason hands down and was the clear choice over Foles.
QB Jamison Winston has former Bust QB LeMarcus Russell written all over him
2 completely different athletes, Winston understands the game of football and wants to be great, he needs a reality check with his off field behavior. Meanwhile Jamarcus was a guy who took his talent for granted and never worked hard in his life. Still has a stack of money which is why he’ll never make a comeback.
BL….Excellent analysis to distinguish the two of them. To state that Winston has bust written all over him is a bit premature considering where he is at in his development, which by the way is coming along just fine….just ask his coaches and def. coordinators of opposing teams. Winston has intangibles such as leadership, charisma and a desire to be great at his craft…those are things you can’t teach or coach. Paul, please detail what you see that makes Winston a certain future bust, and what makes you compare him to Jamarcus Russell? Please elucidate me!
Actually I like QB Winston’s Upside and he definitely has a desire and work ethic that J Russell seldom displayed.. He should develop
nicely this Year at FSU and then we will see what happens..
He’s only what 19 Years old.. He will get stronger, more epxerienced and a QB to Watch for 2015/2016 Draft..
Me either
I see 3 NFL Players with Careers more than 3-4 Years from your Draft Class
WR Richardson, CB Colvin & OL B Thomas..
The Rest of them, I am not so sure about and will probably be joining GMCliff at his Charlotte NC residence…
Colvin will be mediocre as well….
I think Colvin can develop into a Nickel Back or 3rd CB by his 2nd/3rd Year.. which is not bad for a late Draft Pick..
Haven’t you learned yet?! If you are drafted in the 5th round or later and you are NOT a Pro Bowler by the end of your rookie year, you are mediocre and a bust…..Get with the program!
Don’t forget, I’ll take my sweatshirt in 3x! lol
If I cared for your opinion, I might give it my attention. Unfortunately, I could care less what you think……If he turns out like I say he will, then who is the one that needed to learn?
First of all I wasn’t talking to you so get off my nuts. Second of all I didn’t say he was going to be any good…..its just so funny that anyone who is drafted is considered a bust if they aren’t a Pro Bowler their Rookie year. Aaron Rodgers must be a bust to bc it took him 3 years to become a starter. No one is a bust until they are out of the league and didn’t contribute to any team.
Mack will be a bust by the standards set here.
I never said that, but I did hear that from E0S before…….Again, I know what a bust is…..
gmcliff….STOP addressing me! I will be forced to show everyone how you are a lying loser. I am giving you a chance to save face, now take advantage it.
Now to the people that “matter” on the site. I think its a smokescreen the Eagles are putting up by saying the Safety class is weak.
Was that Iggles or his girlfriend that told you to get off his nuts GM?
I don’t believe it’s a smokescreen at all about the Safety Class which is part of the Reason that there was a lot of $$$ tossed around with long-term contracts in Free-Agency for the Safety Position since it’s been widely recognized that the Safety Position is not a very strong one this year …
There are probably 1-2 Starters in this Safety Class in Dix/Pryor and possibly Jimmie Hall.. The rest of the Safety Prospects are most likely backups and Special Teamer’s for a Season or Two before making an impact..
Now in comparsion, look at the Free-Agency movement or lack there of at WR/RB Position’s which this Draft is very deep in..
Look at the Deals that average Pass-Rushers got this Free-agency, and it’s directly related to a lack of pass-rushers in this Draft Class..
Best to you with that,,,..you already tried remember, and brought up personal information about one of my relatives…which was totally unnecessary on an Eagles fan blog…..
Losers actually go down that road, when they are uninformed, and desperate…Don’t throw any ultimatums at me. Why should I worry about you E0S…..Just keep my name out of your mouth.
You just can’t read can you gmcliff?
I am Igglessb27, not ur man crush e0s. When you finally get that in your thick head I will stop responding to your whack posts. I didn’t offer up an ultimatum , it was a promise…..BIG DIFFERENCE!
I am only asking one last time….DO NOT address me or my posts again.
Now for the smart people who “matter”……as each passing day goes its looking like Kyle Fuller is going to be the pick at #22. I would not be disappointed as long as the 2nd round pick is a pass rusher.
Whatever E0S….
GMCliff, May 11, 2014 —-
all your 365 days a year bravado gets blown up with the 6 picks in the 2nd Annual Beat Howie Roseman Challenge when you fall flat on your face again, as usual.
Yawn…..
Yawn…..is that all you have? C’mon lady come up with something new.
Have you met e0s? I am more then willing to meet you in person to prove I’m not your man crush. It is CREEPY how obsessed you are with e0s. This site is for football, if you want to be with e0s go to a dating site. Let the real football fans enjoy the site.
Did anyone watch the ESPN Mock draft last night?
Pot calling kettle black here Iggles? Didn’t you tell GM to stop talking to you yesterday but yet you are posting right after him? And you are willing to meet him somewhere? You sure you aren’t looking for a dating site?
LOL
I posted to someone else, so get your facts straight. Yes I am willing to meet him bc I am tired of being called e0s. He needs to be straightened out. No I don’t need a dating site, I have a gf…….but I can Google some gay dating sites for you guys if needed.

gmcliff….STOP addressing me! I will be forced to show everyone how you are a lying loser. I am giving you a chance to save face, now take advantage it.
Just wanted to make sure that I had my facts straight.
LOL
Clifford Dorsey and I have never met nor will I ever met him. He is a terminally ill diabetic who has nothing to lose. That delusional unstable fool might harm me so I have no intention of ever meeting him. I enjoy debating Cliff here but I think he is dangerous. Someone should contact the NFL league office and warn them about Cliff, so they don’t admit him into the Draft building.
I went to the NFL website and warned them about Cliff,
—————nfl.com/contact-us —
I copied and pasted his posts here where he threatened to curse on National TV and strip off his clothes if he was selected as the announce a draft pick contest winner.
jesus show some class dude
don’t pay any attention to him Big Mhenski…..he wishes even technically disabled he was as smart as I am when it comes to this draft prospect stuff…..
So, he chooses to embarrass himself with his posts….To me, he, and his three alter egos, are the Donald Sterlings of GCobb.com….
I don’t sweat him, nor really pay that much attention to him, so neither should you…..and with all that he does say, it hasn’t taken away any respect that you guys have for me……
good, I’m glad you don’t sweat me anymore so I can avoid those cursing tirades and a repeat of that two month long silent treatment you imposed. Now when can we expect that massive list of yours to be consolidated down to 6.
the NFL contacted me in a return email.
they thanked me for contacting them and sent me a coupon for 10% off $100 purchase or more. LOL, funny stuff.
What a friggin terrible 1st round draft pick for the Eagles in 2011
Here’s an update on the status of each first-round pick from 2011.
1. Cam Newton, Panthers: Option exercised.
2. Von Miller, Broncos: Option exercised.
3. Marcell Dareus, Bills: Option exercised.
4. A.J. Green, Bengals: Option exercised.
5. Patrick Peterson, Cardinals: Option exercised.
6. Julio Jones, Falcons: Option exercised.
7. Aldon Smith, 49ers: This one could go either way. The 49ers want to be sure Smith realizes he needs to turn things around. There’s a chance they’ll decide to send that message by not exercising the option. Look for them to exercise it if they believe he has gotten the message.
8. Jake Locker, Titans: The option won’t be exercised.
9. Tyron Smith, Cowboys: Option exercised.
10. Blaine Gabbert, 49ers: It would be a shock if the option is exercised, since the one-year salary for a top-10 quarterback would be $14.6 million.
11. J.J. Watt, Texans: Option exercised.
12. Christian Ponder, Vikings: Option likely won’t be exercised.
13. Nick Fairley, Lions: The option won’t be exercised; the Lions hope that having a contract year properly motives Fairley.
14. Robert Quinn, Rams: Option exercised.
15. Mike Pouncey, Dolphins: Option exercised.
16. Ryan Kerrigan, Redskins: Option exercised.
17. Nate Solder, Patriots: Option exercised.
18. Corey Liuget, Chargers: Option exercised.
19. Prince Amukamara, Giants: Option exercised.
20. Adrian Clayborn, Buccaneers: The option will not be exercised.
21. Phil Taylor, Browns: Option exercised.
22. Anthony Castonzo, Colts: Option exercised.
23. Danny Watkins, formerly of the Eagles and Dolphins: Currently a free agent, Watkins has no contract and therefore no fifth-year option to pick up.
24. Cameron Jordan, Saints: Option exercised.
25. James Carpenter, Seahawks: Concerns about his injury history and the price of the tender have the Seahawks leaning against picking up Carpenter’s option.
26. Jonathan Baldwin, 49ers: Baldwin’s restructured contract for 2014 eliminated the option. The 49ers wouldn’t have exercised it anyway.
27. Jimmy Smith, Ravens: Option exercised.
28. Mark Ingram, Saints: The Saints reportedly won’t pick up the option on the 2011 first-round pick they acquired by giving up a 2012 first-round pick.
29. Gabe Carimi, Falcons: Carimi’s original contract expired after he was cut by the Buccaneers and cleared waivers.
30. Muhammad Wilkerson, Jets: Option exercised.
31. Cameron Heyward, Steelers: Option exercised.
32. Derek Sherrod, Packers: Through three NFL seasons Sherrod still hasn’t started a single game, so it’s awfully unlikely that the Packers would pick up his option.
Remove the QBs and this was a pretty damn good 1st round draft class.
danny watkins… the spokesperson for the demise of AR… oh wait Namdi is the spokesperson or is it juan? washburn? Babin? Mudd…oh man lots of f.ups there… watkins reminds me of a pick back in the day last name Allen first name Kevin, Kyle…something… was going to be Anthony Munez…uh didn’t work out.
first two rounds defensive impact players, don’t care what their names are, where they went to school and even position… a Dback and linebacker… we need a playmaker or two on D…
I was Screaming for DT Mohammed Wilkerson all during the Pre-Drafat lead up..Jet’s got a steal at #30
There are a few other underperforming Players from this 1st Round Draft
#13 DT Nick Fairley has been very disappointing with Detroit (all questions about his Focus and work ethic are still being asked by Lions Coach’s and Media 3-4 Years later…)
#20 DE Adrian Clayborn with TB Bucs just has never shown any consistency and is a rotational player at most..
#26 WR Jonathon Baldwin was Drafted by teh Chiefs and has been a complete bust..Questions about his attitude and maturity have followed him from University of Pitt to the Chiefs to now the 49ers.. HE will be out of Football within the Next Year
#28 RB Mark Ingram has not shown the explosion or strength he had while at Alabama during his time with Saints.. I believe most of us could get 500 Yards running behind that Alabama OL versus College Competition.. The Saints moved and traded back up into the 1st Round to Select him too to add insult to injury.. He’s been a huge disappointment and is seeing his Carries lessen and taken by 2 undrafted Free-Agents in Khiry Robinson and Travis Cadet in New Orleans
#29 Gabe Camrini was another bust with the Bears who were desperate for OL help, He failed at LT, then they moved him to RT where he failed again and then moved him to Guard to protect him.. He still failed and was traded last Off-Season to the TB Bucs and was a reserve/back-up OL for Bucs last year even though they had injuries and could have used him…
#32 OT Derrick Sherrod was another Bust for the Packers.. Has played very little, has had some injury issues, learning teh playbook and is simply not physical enough to play against NFL Caliber DL which again, looking at his profile out of Miss State, all these things were questioned by Scouts about his lack of toughness and
You want to hear what’s really funny and kind of sad in a way about this 2011 Draft .. The Players that were mentioned and most linked being drafted by the Eagles in this 2011 Draft were
Adrianne Clayborn, Gabe Camrini, & Derick Sherrod who were all Bust’s and I remember some of us regulars on GCobb wanted CB Jimmy Smith (Colorado) or Mohammed Wilkerson (Temple) ..
We could all be Scouts..
I wanted Jimmy Smith, and Phil Taylor that year Paul…
Your right we couldn’t have done any worse than Reid, and his so-called Professional Scouts…
Some said I was crazy because I said the HEISMAN trophy Winner was going to be a bust……Well, he was…as will others- Johnny Manziel, and Jaimeis Winston…….You heard it right here.
I remember it well GMCliff..
I was very high on DT Wilkerson if you recall and liked jimmy Smith as a 2nd Option, though he had off the field baggage too.. But I wanted the hometown Temple Player in Wilkerson who the local media/fans did not show much love for if I recall correctly.. …
yup..
Agree with you there Ciggy…
Good stuff Dag…it tells us how bad the Eagles Talent Evaluation was all those years.
Wasn’t Daniel Jeremiah here during some of those years?
He went to App State here in Boone just like Tommy Lawlor did.. Jeremiah should have looked me up…
don’t worry about that Cliff according to Mr. Lurie’s voluminous notebooks Howie Roseman was by far the best talent evaluator in the building. Since 2012 he has complete control of the roster and the last two drafts he has been nailing the draft process.
I disagree. If he doesn’t draft some impact on this team – particularly on Defense – I say Howies fired within the next 3 years..
You’re dreaming if you think he’s that good of a GM, and that his drafts were good…..
Cliff, you spend a lot of time on college draft etc. and I never question you on them (frankly I won’t watch the draft) you are frequently critical of AR misses but I never hear you give credit for the hits; mcnabb, celek, DJAX, shady, Kielce and on and on… My question is don’t you think that if you followed all teams this close wouldn’t they all have big misses?
We talked about this before Ciggy, and I said yes..
I can give credit for the hits, but I’m sure you’ll agree, because of all the misses, they stand out more than the hits. But, I have no problem giving credit for the hits.
The 2010 2011 drafts sets this team back 5 years.
Who in hear has ever been a GM? NFL scout?
NONE…..so every GM/NFL scout in the NFL has alot more talent then any of us. If any of us had 1/10th of the ability to scout talent that we think we have, disabled or not, that/those person/person would be working for the NFL.
You have a 50/50 chance of copying the correct report you Google. Wake up and smell the burgers you are flipping!!!
Iggles scouts and GMs are just football fans who have gotten a opportunity. Its really not rocket science. Im sure thousands and thousands of die-hard football junkies could do the same given the opportunity. To eat drink and sleep football. To go to games and practices and scout. Now I may be going overboard by saying you don’t need some talent but it surely isn’t like Im becoming a Nuclear Physicist which no matter how hard I tried I probably could never be. But I am confident given the tools and opportunity I can determine that Sammy Watkins is pretty good.
Well said Dag!!
He’s trying to point the finger at me but, anyone who has been on GCobb knows GMCliff has been more right than wrong, and a lot more right than a lot of the so called experts…….He can kick rocks…..nothing else is needed to be proved..
But to speak to the statement that, I could still work at ESPN, NFL Network etc… not true…..I couldn’t work anywhere right now no matter how much you downplay my disabilities……although I do have the smarts to do that…..but unfortunately I can’t….
But you kick knowledge as always Dag…It’s not Rocket Science, but an eye for talent is not the possession of every GM, and Scout…..otherwise their hit percentage would be higher….
For me Ozzie, is the best in the business – and scouts can only wish they can get lucky…for instance Mike Lombardi, and Daniel Jeremiah’s asses were fired because they weren’t as good as they think they are either – although some would assume that biasedly.
I don’t Google either fellas……
What’s really amazing is that from the Hoody tree that started in Cleveland the only one worth a damn is Ozzie, all the rest of those guys found jobs due to the success of riding the hoodies coattails. Individually they haven’t amounted to much.
Basically they recycle the same garbage, and hope someone gets lucky. But rarely someone with a real vision of how to build a championship team…ala Charlie Casserley….
Ozzie Newsome was involved in Front Office duties before Bellicheck came around in Cleveland and stands on his own merits of being excellent Talent Evaluator & GM..
One the best minds and people in the NFL
He looks beyond the obvious…..
No Paul he retired and Belichek wanted him to stay, he wanted him to mentor young players and learn the business. NFL network had a feature on the Belichek tree. So yes now he stands on his own merits but was one of the hoodies first hires.
Yes Ozzie was hired back by Bellichek, but Newsome spent a few years under Shottenheimer & Company too..
7-9 COPY AND PASTE IT!
FOLES GET BLASTED AND SHELL SHOCKED BY GAME 5.
THE SAFETY POSITION GETS EXPOSED ONCE AGAIN, SO I’LL JUST SLEEP WALK THROUGH THE SEASON.
NOTHING TO SEE HERE.
I see it just like that as well Songs…..
except about Foles…..:)
Then STFU, don’t comment, & go away!!!! You aren’t a fan anyways! Beat it fraud, & go root for the Jets, Deadskins, Niners, or Seahawks, because we all know where you priorities, & allegiance lay. GET LOST!!!!
This is my prediction as well! 7-9 at best….Chip Kelly has made a critical error by not fighting to keep DJax! His notion that his ‘system’ can win games is a fundamental flaw
Remember with Kelly’s background in the College Game, he is used to and maybe even enjoys the challenge of new Players in and old Players out.. He’s had to deal with that for most of his Coaching Career.. I am not saying this us the way to go, but it’s been the way he’s Coached and may not looking at losing a big time player or 2 as big of a deal as many Fans do..
The proof will be in the pudding and let’s see what he comes up with to make up for the loss of D-Jax..
We will see paulman….I hope that I eat crow….but we have to also remember that he didn’t win a national championship in college…and last year we mainly beat sup-par below average teams. Who knows maybe IF Macklin returns to form, if Ertz improves, if we draft well and get an impact player as a rookie, if Foles improves and can throw into tight windows….if the defense improves…..a woke lot of IF’s
Yeah man because Jim Harbaugh didnt win anything in college either. What a joke of a coach he is. I mean 3 straight conference titles and a Superbowl appearance. Imagine if he won a college championship.
lmao
If Trent Cole and Brandon Graham are your main pass rush OLBs and Bennie is your main run stopping NT they will struggle all year. Record is regardless because 9-7 10-6 can win division and with division games at the end of the year the hottest team in division will make the playoffs if no one has run away with the division.
When I look at the Pass-Rushers on Eagles,
Take note that Cole, Curry & a blitzing Kendrick’s will be the main Players..
I believe they are expecting a big season from Curry and have 2 young Players
In Krueger & Long plus Free-Agent Aquisition in
LB Braman.. If Curry & one of these Young Players step up to go along with Cole, they may be thinking they are ok at DE//OLB
Now their focus early in Draft just may be DT where they have little to no depth behing Logan and bade no Aquisitions this off-season at the DT position..
Expect a DT in the first 2-3 Rounds
Cole at best when he was in the 4-3 was not a dominant DE. He was a very good DE. 10-13 sacks a year but killer off the edge he was not.
Blitzing Kendricks should not be a go to main option…reason being kid gets hurt…where do you simulate his talent on this team. There is absolutely no outside pass rush speed at LB on this team except for Kendricks. As for Braman I merely see a role player and special teams demon. I still hold out hope for Curry however he is the defense one trick pony since its fairly obvious he is the pass rush threat on passing downs and teams take advantage of knowing that in advance. You can’t leave him for stretches at a time because he gets exposed quickly.
What scares me more than anything is althought the 3-4 doesnt ask for OLB to make plays in space all the time they have to be able to hold their own in space from time to time. Cole and Graham are atrocious in space.
A 3/4 DE or DT will be a good start. As much as I think Cedric Thornton plays his heart out hes just a really good role player. Gives you nothing from a pass rushing perspective and gets worn down because we dont have a ton to rotate him with at the DE position. IMO his best position is as the 4th DL subbing at DE and moving up and down the line depending on opponents keeping Cox fresh. I also think Logan would play well and be more of a threat at DE on 1st and 2nd down and moving inside on passing downs.
JJ Watt is barely 290 and is an absolute beast inside etc. This thought process you need a big fat sloppy bastard in the middle is nonsense.
Aaron Donald or a Tim Jernigen would help in this area..
This Donald kid will be an All-Pro by his 2nd/3rd Year and will have a nice NFL Career.. I wouldn’t mind if Eagles moved up 5-8 Spots to get him
My opinion on both of them, are that they are both overrated….The Eagles NEED, a BIG man at NT….not sorry a small Benny Logan type
Aaron Donald, is the second coming of Mike Patterson, and Jernigan, is the second coming of Brodrick Bunkley…..don’t need either
Is that your reasoning, or your biased opinion, based on the fact that you want them to draft, a mediocre Da’Quan Jones???….LOL
With all, that said Paul, they STILL need 2 Pass Rushers…
We are not going to have Pass Rush, just instantly be a strength of this team, just because we rationalize that scrubs like Krueger, Long, Cole, and Barwin, might develop into such…that’s BS….We do not have one person on this team that will give us a consistent pass rush…….not one.
DT, can be addressed in the 4th 5th round…….WE NEED TWO PASS RUSHERS NO LATER THAN THE 2ND ROUND……PERIOD…
I can see Donald but not sold on Jernigan. Especially in 3-4.
Jernigan will need a year or two,
Probably should have stayed at Fal State 1 more Season,
He’s young and will need time to develop
I tell you if Rasheede Hageman had the motor and desire that Donald has,
He would be Top 5-10 Pick.. I really think DL Coach Jerry A abd Eagkes DL Players can keep this kid focused.. Hageman will be a Stud or a Bust in the NFL
Hageman?….Depends on what team drafts him……needs to be around some positive, motivating veterans..
GM Cliff
I am stating how the Eagles feel about their Pass-Rush,
Not what I would do.. Eagles got 37 Sacks with this Group last Season which is not good enough and needs to be in 50’s to contend with the Elite Teams..
But when I look at their current Roster, they have lots of Players already at DE & OLB Positions and only have 2 DT’s (Logan/Square), so the numbers don’t add up for them to Draft 2 more Pass rushers and leave the DT Position so thin
You heard me all off-Season state that the DL was not addressed which is a biggest mistake going into the Season and that this Drsftbisbpretty weak or thin along the DL after the Top Prospects are gone early..
They should have added DL free-Agents in Lamarr Houston, Arthur Jonesbor Lincal Joseph or Paul Solai but they made little to no effort in doing so and now as I look toward the Draft and I still see DE/OLB
Cox,Thornton,Curry,Graham,Cox, Long,Krueger, Brandon Bair, Braman & Barwin
All under Cobtract, I believe that they must feel that this group can get the job done and then I look at DT and is see only Logan,Square under contract..
Eagles will go DT before adding a DE in this Draft
I am not saying this is what I would do, but looks like what they will do
And is the reason I have had DT’s DaQuan Jones and/or Ego Fergesun in my Mocks so often.. Who I see both as rotational DT’s along with Logan
thumbs down…………
What You really mean is, that they have OLB’s, but they are just not very good – especially at Pass Rush…..I agree
Those guys being under contract, doesn’t mean they will make the team, nor that they are any good Paul……
I don’t think they need a DE either, but DT still can come much later…………..they need 2 OLB’s
I agree but I don’t see then Drafting 2 of them..
I do expect them to Trade Graham even if they have to give him away
Which likely will be the case for a 6th Rounder or so
But they are not going to add 2 in the Draft and end up releasing
4-5 from their Current Roster.. It’s just not how they do things at NovaCare
Again Cliff, I am going by past tendancies of what the Eagles will do, not what I would do.. My Mocks reflect how I bekieve the Eagles think about their Roster not my personal preference..
I hear you Buddy…
but, what I am saying is, no matter what Howie says, or thinks…He needs two Pass Rushing OLB from this draft immediately….
I’ve said it for the last 4years even under Reid…..Its ridiculous that has been ignored. What we have there now……Is mediocre garbage..
But they are not going to add 2 in the Draft and end up releasing
4-5 from their Current Roster..
I don’t see why not…..they aren’t any damn good…..so why wouldn’t we want to improve the team by upgrading???
Because that’s now they work GMCliff
They Added T Long, B Braman, and are high on Kruger and expect a breakout season by Curry and will give these guys all a chance before simply drafting their replacements.. That’s why..
I am not saying these Players will be any good, but I am saying this how the Eagles do things as far as a Roster Management..
Like the Safety Position, they added Jenkins, Maragos and resigned Nate Allen to go along with Earl Wolff who they like,
There is no chance they are Drafting a Safety in the first 4 Rounds,
No chance ..
I wouldn’t say NO chance on a Safety……
It’s stupid to stubbornly insist on mediocrity…Wolfe is not, and should not be a starter…..
Why would they be high on those scrubs???
T Long, B Braman, and are high on Kruger ….Laughable, and someone thinks Howies this great talent evaluator huh???
Could the Eagles send #22, #86, Graham or Celek along with a 2015 1st Rd Pick to the Raiders for their 5th Pick and Select LB Khalil Mack
Does this the make the Eagles a better Team??
My gut is if the QB shark tank starts going early I can see the Birds trading up into the top 5 if Clowney or Mack suddenly get pushed down a couple picks.
I also think the have 1 or 2 player trades lined depending on if other teams go young at positions. Suh trade would be the fantasy but something in the Peters/Suh role. Probably Jordan
Next year is the total team flush year. 3/4 of the defense will be gone and inside OL will be new unless they reach some sort of compromise with Mathis.
They’re not trading their best TE…I’d give them Ertz, and Bryce Brown, and keep my #22……
But drafting Mack would be a start…I’d be shocked if they did that, because outside Gamble, I don’t think there is anyone in that draft room smart enough to come up with that Paul…..
