Thoughts On Tom Gamble Firing And The Eagles’ Power Struggle

TomGamble1On The Gamble Firing

While I think it’s safe to say that not too many of us expected Tom Gamble to remain with the Eagles’ organization for a long time, I don’t think anyone would have envisioned his exit playing out this way.

If Gamble left the team, I think I speak for a lot of people when say I believed it would have been to accept a General Manager position with another franchise.

Instead, the Eagles forced him out the door after his second year with the club.

What went wrong? Well, none of us really know for sure. Until we get some kind of clarification from either Jeffrey Lurie, Howie Roseman, or Chip Kelly (who will all more than likely go into hiding until the NFL combine), we can only speculate.

Clearly there had to be some kind of tension between Gamble and Roseman. Even though the Eagles were a disappointing team, there was no reason for anyone’s head to roll for this season’s failure. Not after what they had just accomplished a year ago.

There had to be some significant disagreements over personnel over the last year that led to this. What I want to know now is whose pick was Marcus Smith? Is he here now more because of Howie or Gamble?

What about the rest of the draft? Were there other players that Gamble/Howie pushed for that they didn’t get that wound up performing very well for other teams during the year?

Whatever happened, the loss of Gamble can’t be seen at all as a good thing. The Eagles lost a highly successful and well-respected executive that was great at evaluating talent. Having one less set of quality eyes in your scouting department is never a good thing.

On Howie Roseman’s Power Within The Organization

Howie Roseman’s rise to power within this franchise is one of the most fascinating things I’ve ever seen.

Howie started as an intern, and slowly worked his way up to the top of the food chain. He somehow has the unwavering trust of owner Jeffrey Lurie, and during his ascension he managed to convince Lurie to help him remove figures like Joe Banner that would stand in his way and deny him from having as much power as possible.

Now Roseman has apparently made another powerplay, sending a message to head coach Chip Kelly about who really has final say over any and all matters within this organization by sending one of Kelly’s closest and most powerful friends in the franchise packing.

I don’t know what Howie did to obtain so much power, and I don’t like that he seems to be the most powerful figure on the team at the moment, second only to Lurie himself.

For as much as Roseman may have proven himself to Lurie, he’s yet to do anything to earn that same trust within the fanbase. His credentials and background say that he’s a numbers cruncher and a contract guy by trade, and doesn’t have nearly as strong of a history when it comes to evaluating talented football players.

The best move that he’s made as general manager has been the Kelly hire, but through all of his years in this position its unclear which players he has and has not had say in bringing here.

On What This Means For Chip Kelly’s Future

It seems insane to think about this, but Chip Kelly’s future with the team is suddenly in doubt.

While no departure is imminent, I don’t think that Kelly is any longer lock to be the coach of this team after the 2015 season.

It’s so important for a front office and a head coach to be able work cohesively with one another.

If things don’t turn around the team goes through another unsuccessful season, I could see Kelly walking away. The firing of Gamble isn’t likely to sit well with Chip, and the reported tensions between himself and Roseman could only grow if Howie fails to bring Kelly an adequate amount of talent to help the club improve.

We’ve seen throughout the NFL that relationships between a head coach and a front office can dissolve and turn into ugly situations very quickly. Most notably, we just saw Jim Harbaugh, a man who turned the San Francisco 49ers back into a relevant franchise and brought the team to the NFC Championship game in each of his first three years, and made the Super Bowl in his second season. Despite such incredible achievements, things went sour between himself and the folks upstairs, and despite all of his achievements the Niners couldn’t wait to get rid of him.

If a guy who enjoyed that amount of success within such a short span of time could be deemed expendable so quickly, then so could Kelly.

It will be interesting to see who Eagles to fill the Personnel Positions
Of Gamble and Rick Mieller’s.. They will have to move quickly and I hope
This was a preplanned, well thought-out decision and not a knee jerk
Decision to Kelly’s PC on Monday, where Howie’s Feelings and ego
Took a hit from Kelly..
This Front Office needs to regroup, start at ground zero
And hit the ground running to acquire the best Talent
For not only their Roster, but for their Front Office which is a bit thin
With Football Talent Evaluatotors right now..

ground zero????? Lmfao. gamble wasnt that important and hasnt done shit to speak of here to call his firing ground zero…

and rick mueller is still employed by the eagles and he has received permission to interview for the jets gm job… thats it… his paycheck is still coming from the eagles as of now. also if he left its no big deal as he is the director of pro personnel, that position is easily replaceable.. not to mention what is muellers mark on this team??? because ive read his job description and i would venture to guess his mark is highlighted, wait i mean LOWLIGHTED by cary williams, bradley fletcher and james casey

I am not sure if GM Roseman is Married or has Family, but I can tell you
That he will be working 16-18 Hours a Day for
The next 4 Months and will need Quality Help
In evaluating 1500 or so Draft Eligibke Pkayers
To go along with the 300 or so Current Free-Agent List
As well as managing, negoitiating the Eagles Current Roster
With their own Free-Agents,Extensions and Re-Structuring of
Contracts… He also needs a quality person to keep tabs
On NFL Pkayers who are Currentky under Contracts,
But likely to get released due to new Coach’s,Injuries,
Lack of Production, etc,etc for I expect another
50-75 Players to hit the Market come Febuary before Roster Bonus
Hit March 1st — players like Frank Gore,Patrick Wills,
Reggie Bush, Brandon Carr,Morris Claiborne,
Mike Walkace, Wes Welker, Adrian Petersen,
D’Angelo Hall,Ike Taylor,Cortez Allen,Vincent Jackson,
Josh Gordon, as well as many other Players

regarding excessive hours i do expect howie and his team to average 10-12 hours a day 6 days a week from the day ncaaf begins until the draft ends

just read an article on philly DOT com and read this:

The 2014 Eagles draft clearly bore Kelly’s imprint, with the coach drafting his former Oregon stars Josh Huff in the third round and Taylor Hart in the fifth. Afterward, Kelly and Roseman told of Roseman having talked Kelly out of drafting Hart in the third; Hart, a defensive end, was the only Eagle who spent all 16 games on the 53-man roster without ever being activated.

Denny I have no clue how you know that for a fact but I will take your word for it.

With that being fact it means howie is very smart to put an end to chip fucking up personnel and shows he isn’t scared of chip and that he is going to make the best decisions for the team regardless of whose feelings get hurt! I love it!!!!!

Howie gave chip a shot and chip looked like a retard.

Round 1 chip and gamble pick smith
Roseman Uhhh are u sure guys, chip and gamble respond yea number guy he is a beast.

Round 2 they pick Matthews. All approve

Round 3 chip and gamble say Taylor hart. Roseman responds good one guys who are we taking we r on the clock. They respond hart, howie thinks they are fucking with him and then it’s time to turn in the pick and its hart and howie is like fuck off and rips the paper from them and says he has a 6th round grade and howie picks huff with seconds to spare.

Hey…finally something we agree on mhenski!

“Denny, I have no clue….”

Just put a exclamation point behind ‘clue’ and we will have the most accurate assessment you have ever made on here.

How do you know Roseman wasn’t in support drafting Smith in the first round?

The bottom line is Roseman is an accountant! I understand why Chip wants him to do his job as salary cap manager and have Tom Gamble a football man helping him handle selecting the players that he wants.
All we can tell from this move is that Chip aint got the juice that Andy Reid had …and it would not be much of a surprise if we see Chip Kelly bolting back to the college ranks real soon.

Oh, and we also know by your stupid ass statements that your an idiot, mhenski!

koolbreeze, I get your point. But, do you know what Tom Gamble was prior to becoming a football guy? He was playing baseball. He worked his way up. Matt Millen who was a football guy and player…a horrible GM for the Lions. being a former football player does not make you a good GM…after all, Ray farmer drafted manziel in the first round..lol. Howie had a good 2012 draft…we have to wait and see. It’s a position you can learn how to evaluate talent.
Michael Jordan was the best b-ball player ever…he SUCKS as a GM!!!!

It is true Big Mhenski. Howie admitted, and talked about it at length after the draft last year.

Taylor Hart, who mirrors most Oregon Players coming into the NFL. which one would you say, has made a difference on this team????

Please don’t say Josh Huff. He thought he(Huff) could replace DeSean. That is all we need to know about his ability to evaluate Professional Talent

No buddy. Which Oregon Player that Chip has wanted on this team has made a difference??

My point was no one from the Oregon Program would really make a difference because most of them are not NFL Players including Huff(OUTSIDE KR), Mariota, Hart, Dion Jordan, Kenyon Barner, Casey Matthews or Jeff Mahael.

I stated this last May after the Draft Henski,
First 2 Selections (MS2 & Matthews) were Roseman’s Call & doing,
While the remainder of Draft was Kelly’s with Gambles sign off
All Old News…
I believe Roseman had his own Selections in mind from 3rd Round on and when he compared them to what Kelly wanted and took
He decided to take action and fire Gamble
I believe Roseman had Players like ILB Preston Brown,
WR John Brown, WR Martavius Bryant, CB Breeland,
Guard Trai Turner,Safety Trey Boston etc on his list for mid-rounds
Instead of Kelly’s Ducks and PAC-10 guys that he chose

Wouldn’t it be great to see this list

its dumb coaches shouldnt be drafting the players nor having final say EVER. scouts scout and evaluate college talent 12 months a year… and work especially hard evaluating during the ncaaf season obviously. while at that same time coaches are coaching nfl teams and scouting their opponents. no way can a coach know anything more than our scouts about these guys ever…

yea, probably right.

by everything i read chip is a smart man without too much ego and can admit when he is wrong. I HOPE chip agrees that he shouldnt be calling all the shots in the draft…

ive come to this conclusion from an article i read this morning about how his and leseans relationship was built… in that article after a 3rd down where shady got tackled in the backfield and as shady came off the field and the following happened:

On the sideline, Kelly unloads: “Hit the damn hole, Shady!”

“There was no damn hole!” shady

“Shut up!” chip

McCoy heads to the bench. But he can’t let it go. He brings Kelly a photo of the play and says, “Do you see a hole?”

Kelly returns to the game, and McCoy returns to wondering whether he can coexist with his coach.

But in the team meeting the next day, Kelly says something the players have never heard so explicitly from a head coach: “Shady and I got into it, and I was wrong.”

THAT TELLS Me chip can admit mistakes and move on. hopefully this is happening with Howie as we speak

It’s almost impossible to do both well & consistently
In Today’s Year-Round Job of being an NFL GM
Best Plans can too easily fall by the wayside
With off the field issues, injuries,Coaching changes,
Rules changes, etc,etc..
It takes an experienced front office that’s on the same page,
Following a consistent “mission statement” with a solid
Core of Beliefs and Principles on how to achieve these Goals
It starts at the Top,
Being a successful Businessman does make an Owner
A successful Sports Team Owner as we have seen a thousand times
Over the Years in all Sports
There must be consistency in the message and the process
But there also needs to be adjustments, fresh ideas and new blood & energy
To move things forward and keep things challenging & exciting
There has to be accountability and shared rewards and shared sacrifices

I think the Eagles tend to over analyze and over complicate
Things and then invoke too many knee-jerk responses and actions

Some of these other real Successful Organization’s Front Offices you
Rarely hear much about and just stay the course and have done well
Over time.. The Steelers,Ravens,Pats,Packers & the Giants
Come to mind..
Is it about their Coach’s, their Players, their
Draft records for they all have misses too..
Or is it their overall consistent Philosophy and relatively
Stable Front Offices realizing that some
Seasons are down years or some Drafts
Just didn’t turn out as expected..
But they seem to appear to weather the
Ups and Downs well and stay the course..

screw the stats…….reality is not having him took away our leverage to be more productive Offensively – in terms of winning those games, and missing the playoffs.

Coopers season worked out better with DJack than Maclin,, because he took so much Defensive attention with him – Maclin had a great year and is talented in his own right, but he doesn’t scare anyone with his speed. Coopers season was greatly affected by the absence of DeSean Jackson no matter how much Chip doesn’t want to admit it, or is in denial

HAC, Mhenski, in 2012-2013, while the Eagles were looking for their new head coach, Jason La Canfora was writing about NFL personnel telling Chip not to come to Eagles. Also on dead spin. Some had to do with Banner, some , some others. I knew I read it, could not remember where. Google it. Right there for you to read.

i dont see it cant find it. tell me what to google please… or copy and paste the article… all i see is this bullshit – which everyone knew was from scorned banner:

On Monday, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora did a hatchet job on Eagles GM Howie Roseman. He wrote that Roseman was “drunk with power” and “woefully out of his depth,” and to add the sheen of authority, La Canfora cloaked it in “a growing perception around the league.”

At the time, the Browns and Eagles had engaged in a high-profile tug-of-war for Oregon coach Chip Kelly, who had at different times reportedly been close to taking both jobs. Kelly turned down Cleveland last week after being wined and dined by the Eagles. He then supposedly turned down Philadelphia, but as we now know, negotiations were still ongoing. The CBS article looked like an attempt by someone to sour the Eagles’ chances of landing Kelly, blasting the front office power structure and noting that an incoming coach would have limited personnel say in Philly. It was only natural to assume La Canfora’s sources were coming from Cleveland.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie voiced those suspicions today to CSN Philly, pinning the quote on Joe Banner, who was Lurie’s boyhood friend and second-in-command in Philadelphia for nearly two decades before leaving to become Browns CEO.

“I’m very supportive of Howie, and if there’s any criticism coming from afar about Howie, it’s just off-base, and so I will support Howie completely, because that’s not right,” Lurie said.

“And, you know, if there are league sources that are really based in Cleveland, that’s not right. We see through it all.”

so a writer used a scorned gm as a source? you are referring to banner telling kelly not to come here ? if yes, of course he did banner wanted kelly and failed!!!!! no other gms or bellicheck are saying this nonsense it was banner…

what am i missing?

am i not reading the right article?

chip kelly will be the coach in 2015 and 2016, unless he just quits but then he will lose 6.5 million per year unless he goes back to ncaa. chip previously said he will not go back to ncaa… and if he quits we control his nfl rights for 3 more years/

so unless chip goes back to college for a big time job (are there any available?) or unless we trade him. he is the coach..

chips gonna need to stop acting like a dickboy and do his fucking job and coach!

MARIOTTA VS WINSTON: WHICH IS THE BETTER NFL PROSPECT
Bucky Brooks – January 1, 2015
NFL.COM

It is uncommon for NFL scouts to have an opportunity to see Heisman Trophy quarterbacks square off on a big stage, but the 101st Rose Bowl provided evaluators with a chance to see Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston battle it out in Pasedena. Mariota outperformed Winston in this head-to-head battle, leading Oregon to a 59-20 victory over Florida State.

But with each guy considered a potential franchise quarterback in scouting circles, I thought I would make the trip to the Rose Bowl to see which guy has the edge heading into the draft season. With the game serving as a perfect tale of the tape, here are my thoughts on what Mariota and Winston bring to the table as NFL prospects:

Athleticism
The presence of speedy pass rushers and linebackers throughout the NFL makes it imperative for quarterbacks to be nimble athletes within the pocket. Although NFL signal-callers aren’t expected to be explosive runners or scrambling threats, the ability to elude and evade defenders is essential to consistently move the chains in the pro game.

Mariota is one of the most explosive athletes in college football, exhibiting exceptional speed, acceleration and burst on the perimeter. He is a fluid runner capable of producing explosive plays with his legs while also flashing the skills to extend plays within the pocket to create big plays in passing opportunities. Against Florida State, Mariota rushed for 62 yards on eight carries, including a nifty 23-yard gain that showcased his speed and burst on the perimeter.

Winston is not an explosive athlete of Mariota’s caliber, but he is also a nifty playmaker on the perimeter. Although he is a little herky-jerky in his movements, he displays enough wiggle to avoid defenders in traffic and shows exceptional strength warding off tacklers in the pocket. Winston’s ability to stand tall with defenders draped around his legs reminds me of a young Ben Roethlisberger when he first entered the NFL. Although Winston finished with minus-15 yards on eight carries against Oregon, he capably executed the triple option near the goal line and extended a few plays by rolling to his right or left to buy time for his receivers to shake free. Those plays rarely make the highlights, but coaches and scouts certainly appreciate his ability to extend plays in the pocket.

Edge: Mariota

Arm talent
NFL coaches will quickly tell anyone within earshot that arm strength is overrated, but elite quarterbacks must be able to generate enough zip and velocity to fit the ball into tight windows downfield. Moreover, the top quarterbacks in the game are able to throw the ball to every area of the field with exceptional accuracy and placement.

Mariota certainly the displays the arm strength and talent to play effectively in the NFL. He capably pushes the ball to the outside areas of the field, while also showing the arm strength to make vertical throws down the middle. While his accuracy and ball placement leave something to be desired, particularly on intermediate and deep throws, Mariota has the physical tools to play the position as a passer. He displayed those skills on a couple of “pocket” go throws to Darren Carrington down the boundary for scores of 56 and 30 yards in the third quarter.

Winston is a natural thrower with a strong arm. He consistently throws laser tosses between the hashes, exhibiting outstanding arm strength and touch. In addition, Winston fires the ball with precision to the receivers sitting outside the numbers. Those throws are staple tosses in most NFL playbooks, which is why coaches and scouts will give Winston high marks for his arm talent when they break down the film of the Rose Bowl.

Edge: Winston

Pocket presence

Learning how to play amid chaos is the biggest challenge for NFL quarterbacks. The best quarterbacks have the ability to feel the rush, but are disciplined enough to keep their eyes down field on their intended targets. Watching young passers transition from the college game to the pros, I believe it is the one skill that can’t be taught at the highest level. Thus, elite quarterback prospects must display the courage and composure to function with rushers in close proximity as a collegian, or it’s unlikely they will develop those skills in the NFL despite running through an assortment of simulated drills on a daily basis.

Mariota is an extraordinary playmaker, but he doesn’t show exceptional poise or patience within the pocket. He looks uncomfortable working through his reads when his primary receiver is covered, leading him to quickly flee the pocket or move around to create a potential big play in a scramble drill. While he routinely converts these chances into explosive plays — passes of more than 25 yards — Mariota must learn to play within the confines of the pocket when it crumbles. It’s the same lesson Robert Griffin III, Colin Kaepernick, Cam Newton and Johnny Manziel are grappling with as pros. Mariota will be challenged to do the same at the next level.

Winston is a superb passer from the pocket. He stands tall at the top of his drop and doesn’t flinch when rushers are in close proximity. Most important, Winston consistently works through his first, second and third receiver in the progression before attempting to flee the pocket. Although his run around fumble against Oregon will make every blooper reel following the season, Winston showed tremendous pocket poise for most of the game. Watching him consistently deliver bullets to receivers working between the hashes, I walked away convinced that he could effectively function within an NFL pocket from Day 1.

Edge: Winston

Football intelligence
The challenge of running a complex NFL offense requires the quarterback to be a cerebral playmaker in the backfield. He must be able to read coverage and defensive fronts during the pre-snap phase, but make quick adjustments after the ball is snapped. Additionally, NFL quarterbacks are routinely tasked with making protection calls or using hot reads or sight adjustments to naturalize blitzes. This is not a standard requirement in most collegiate offenses, but every team has an answer to handling pressure at the line of scrimmage.

Mariota runs the Ducks’ version of the spread with remarkable precision. He makes sound decisions with the ball on zone-reads; he does a great job of counting the numbers to make decisions whether to run or throw bubble screens on read-option plays. Looking at Mariota’s impressive numbers in the Rose Bowl, I was surprised at the production generated off bubble screens and other deceptive screen tactics. He accurately read the reactions of defenders and made the correct call repeatedly. Now, I must point out that Oregon’s offense doesn’t feature the complexities of a pro system, but Mariota thrives running the Ducks’ spread, and that should earn him some points in meeting rooms across the NFL for his superb execution.

Winston plays in a traditional offense that features concepts found in every NFL playbook. From basic smash-corner reads to a variety of level routes between the hashes, Winston is asked to execute progressions that are routinely seen on Sundays. He effectively moved the offense down the field for the better part of a half before a number of turnovers and mental mistakes allowed the Ducks to run away with the game. Although Winston will be tagged with a couple of turnovers in the Rose Bowl, it is important to note that his third-quarter interception resulted from a drop and deflection from an open receiver. When coaches grade the film based on his execution of the assigned tasks, Winston will earn high marks for his play.

Edge: Even

Clutch Factor

Staying or going?

NFL.com’s College Football 24/7 is tracking reports of college football underclassmen in anticipation for the 2015 NFL Draft. Underclassmen have until Jan. 15, 2015 to declare their intentions.

Playing well in the clutch is one of the most important aspects of playing quarterback in the NFL. Elite signal-callers excel when the game is on the line, particularly at the end of the half or following critical errors. These moments reveal a quarterback’s mental toughness, awareness and judgment, while also providing a glimpse at how they will handle intense situations at the next level.

Mariota will earn high marks for his overall play against Florida State in critical situations. He bounced back from a few missed opportunities, missing two receivers for explosive play chances in the first quarter, to get his offense into a groove for three quarters. From using his legs to spark a long drive from his own end zone to making a few big plays on fake bubble screens bombs, Mariota made the plays to blow open the game against the Seminoles. Scouts certainly would’ve loved to have seen Mariota execute a two-minute drill with the game hanging in the balance, but his ability to make the critical plays to seal the game will earn him high marks from evaluators.

Scouts certainly have seen enough film of Winston making plays in the clutch to have a feel for his confidence and swagger in big moments, but he provided another example with his brilliant execution of the two-minute drill at the end of the first half. Winston picked apart the Ducks’ defense on the drive, culminating in a 10-yard touchdown run from Karlos Williams. On the drive, Winston made pinpoint throws in traffic and effectively managed the clock to preserve enough time for a score. Given his history of delivering in the clutch, Winston’s play in the Rose Bowl will further cement his status as a primetime performer.

Edge: Even

Conclusion

NFL Exposure

Jameis Winston through the years
Check out Florida State’s quarterback, “Famous” Jameis Winston, the 2013 Heisman winner and two-sport star.

The Rose Bowl certainly provided evaluators with a terrific opportunity to see the top quarterbacks in college football duke it out on a big stage. Although the game turned into a lopsided affair, scouts will walk away with a better feel for the potential of both quarterbacks. For Mariota, the game showcased his athleticism and playmaking potential as a dual-threat quarterback. He can impact the game as a runner or passer and has a flair for delivering an explosive play at the right time. While he needs to continue to make improvements as a pocket passer and probably needs to play in a system that features several of the components of the Ducks’ offense to succeed early in his career, Mariota is an intriguing prospect capable of developing into a spectacular player down the road.

Winston remains the most pro-ready passer in college football. He is an exceptional pocket passer with big-time talent and valuable experience in a pro system. Winston plays the game in a style that translates easily to the next level; coaches can project how he will play in their system and quickly craft plans to get him on the field quickly as a pro. Although his character issues will raise red flags in most meeting rooms, there is no doubt in my mind that he is the better prospect right now.

Bucky Brooks is an experienced, well recognized
And respectfed NFL Scout & Talent Evaluator
And I agree with most of his Assesment..
I personality am still not sold on Mariotta’s
Arm Strength and still think he’s more of an Alex Smith
Type than an Aaron Rodgers Type at the NFL
Level…while Winston reminds me more of a
Culpepper/McNabb Type as far as NFL QB Skills

Do not let the last game you see these guys in ..or maybe first sum up there QB ability. K-State defense is a sieve, he would look a lot different playing Oregon. I like Hundley, but he is very inconsistent and a streaky passer. His decision making has been good thus far tonight….that too can be inconsistent. He is a streaky player. E0S, that is one of the knocks on Hundley, he holds the ball to long. Speaks to his decision making, and maybe processing.

RG3 with Josh Gordon and Jameis Winston with Kelvin Benjamin look a whole lot different without them.

It’s all good. QB’s make receivers look good and vise versa. When one leaves, it normally hurts the others performance and production.

Josh Gordon got booted from Baylor and only played

That speaks to the absurdity of the combine. The tape is the most important thing…game tape. That is why players get overvalued…the combine. Winston threw bad picks this year. He was the exact opposite last year. he and Foles past two seasons mirror each other in that regard. Winston was throwing to 2 freshman receivers and a senior. Some of those picks were on the receivers running the wrong routes. I can say that for certain because I watched most of FSU’s game. Winston would immediately go to the receivers and instruct them on the route they should have ran. That’s why I know he is a good leader on the field.

There still is skin in the game….I think the chipper flew back from the rosebowl ,and made Jeffrey blink…his power as Gm is assuredly allowing for him to “buy the groceries” now he had to give something to get something…I’m still hoping it’s bill Davis head…the smoke will clear ,and then …the skin in this game will be revealed…why would Jeffrey flip flop if he got nothing ,in return?

Wow, Jeff Lurie took a beating from the National and local media that he had to release a statement. LOL.
That Nova Care Center is a mess. Jason La Canfora had their number when they were on the tour of the USA coaching search.
Someone has to step to the podium and speak … this Howie gets an extension and Chip’s in charge kumbaya magic wand Lurie letter isn’t enough.

What’s everyones on this move? Will we be better or worse now that Kelly is in charge of all personnel moves?

And the big question – Will Lurie continue to take “voluminous notes” on which staff members like which players in the draft? lol

I LOVE IT

All I read was everyone in the universe – including a zillion on here ranting on and on and on about how this was a:

“circus”
“dysfunctional”
“laughing stock”

LOL

Eat crow bitches.

Maybe Tom Gamble is just a guy they didn;t want around anymore.

All Philly is is a mess of insane conspiracy theories and speculation.

As I said earlier….the firing of Gamble would have been an absolute NO STORY in every other city (maybe not if it was the Jets) in the NFL.

Now a minor restructuring at the top.

Wow.

Shocking!!

Only in Philly do people go apeshit over this non-issue.

Really? Saints just fired 3 coaches with more to come. Yawn. Minor scroll across an espn page.

No “turmoil” or “circus” or “dysfunctional”.

Just a team making changes.

Packers just “promoted” some guy you’ve never heard of named Elliott Wolf to director of player personnell.

Who the fuck cares?

AJ SMith is being promoted in Washington.

Who the fuck cares?

Bill Polian is reportedly about to usurp the GM in Buffalo.

Who the fuck cares?

There are 18 million guys being interviewed for HC positions.

Only in Philly is this “dysfunctional”, a “circus”, a “toxic environment”

Its everyday business in the NFL.

Re-fucking-lax.

It’s a strong possibility if Tampa takes Winston.
There is a reason why Chip has repeatedly failed to endorse Foles! We will know in 4 months.

I’m not feeling this move Big. I hope I’m wrong, I just don’t see Kelly as a great talent evaluator to the degree he gets complete autonomy over personnel and talent evaluation at this stage of his NFL career. In my opinion, he has done nothing to earn that power yet.

The most important acquisition this off season will be the guy he hires to be his personnel guy. We’ll have a pretty good idea where this is headed during free agency.

Philly media and over-reacting fanbase too funny.

This is a complete non issue.

Eagle headlines the past 3 days:

Gamble was a Kelly ally
Roseman gains edge on Chip in power struggle
Eagles’ future gets complicated
What Roseman wants, he gets
College looking good to Chip?
Eagles give Chip Kelly more power
Report: Lurie has created a “toxic environment”
Chip has expressed interest in leaving?
Eagles Power Struggle Saga:
Lines from different articles:

tension has developed between Roseman and Kelly
bad blood in Roseman’s scouting department has been brewing and Gamble’s departure could be just the first shoe to drop.
those quotes “infuriated” Roseman.

And Gcobb posters:

soap opera
dysfunctional
circus

and on and on and on and on.

Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong and wrong.

Only in Philly do the media and fans CREATE a circus where none exists

Wow….Tom Gamble, an executive assistant is fired.

Guys like that get frikkin’ hired and fired about 20x each and every year yet no one cares.

Eagles should look to Interview Terry Malone who was TE Coach for Saints and a 9 year Asst with Sean Payton who was let go today.
Malone can help with Development of Ertz & Burton,
As he did with Jimmy Graham and David Hill at NO.
Not a bad guy who to have on your Staff and learn some ideas
& formations From Sean Payton’s Playbook
Bring him in Chip..

Hmmm…Roseman canned as GM. Chip in charge of finding a new GM and is the director of personnel operations? I kind of wonder if Roseman and Gamble went at it and Roseman unilaterally terminated Gambles contract and that’s what brought all of this on?

Some good some bad, hopefully they won’t hire the Oregon Mighty Ducks AD as Eagles GM. Finally, Lurie decides to put Roseman in his place but then it creates a vacuum where Chip conducts a power grab…some good and more Ducks on the way. I don’t get way Kelly needs to be the director of personnel he already clerly had a lot of influence over draft personnel decisions, unless it’s just to insure he can keep the door open to Ducks when the new GM is hired. It would be nice if the Eagles hired Gamble as GM, but considering what went down I know it’s highly unlikely.
