A win is a win, but still, it’s the Dolphins. The Eagles would have reached a new low for the 2007 season if they were to somehow lose to the dregs of the league.
I guess they did what they had to do, but you would have thought they would have put the game out of reach sooner. So let’s take a look:
What I liked:
-Brian Westbrook just keeps doing it.
-I thought AJ Feeley came in and did a nice job. For whatever reason he’s proven that he can’t play for any other team in the league. But somehow, he does a pretty good job when playing for the Eagles. Feeley is a very valuable player for this team, but I hope I don’t hear any “AJ is better than Donovan” talk.
-I guess I liked the defense? Tough to tell when they are playing against a rookie QB in his first start. The Dolphins are terrible.
….And not so much:
-I don’t like that the Eagles won a game by 10 points and I can only come up with three things I like.
-With all the talk of McNabb’s injured ankle, the thumb is more worrisome. He’s got a swollen thumb on his throwing hand and you can ask Kurt Warner what that can do to a career. Anyone remember the opening game against the Rams in 2001? That was the beginning of the end for Warner when Jim Johnson blitzed Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor a t the same time off of the corner. I don’t think he’s gripped the ball the same since. This also might help explain why McNabb couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn.
-As if the Dolphins weren’t bad enough, their punter Brandon Fields was awful. Anyone else notice what a disgrace his performance was?
-I worry about overusing Westbrook. As the Eagles were running out the clock, why was he in there? His carries were way up and he was doing something that Buckhalter or Hunt could have done. Get him out of there.
-LJ Smith is quickly turning me against him. He had help and still felt the need to commit a holding penalty that nullified a TD pass.
-Not one sack? Are you joking? The Dolphins line ain’t the Hogs of the 1980’s I can promise you that. Does anyone have any idea what is going to happen next week?
-Those three picks in the first half were just awful. McNabb threw two bad ones. Another reason the Dolphins stink, they couldn’t do anything with them.
-Why did the Dolphins go for it when a field goal would put them within one score? You have to keep yourself in the game as long as possible. Then again, they are winless. Why not go for it? What’s the worst that can happen? You miss the playoffs?
-I don’t like the fact that the Eagles are making the trip to New England this week. They should take my advice and just not show up and take the loss. Treat it like a bye week. The death and destruction that is going to happen to the Birds next Sunday will be a sight to behold.
