76ers Jahlil Okafor Starts Out With Mistake

gettyimages-478527454-e1435697565138The Sixers have been a positive run since the NBA draft, but they dropped the ball in preparing Jahlil Okafor for the Philly media and Philly fans.  The last thing you want to tell a Philadelphia sports fan is that you are a friend of Tony Romo and a fan of the Dallas Cowboys.  Okafor made both of those mistakes in a CNSPhilly.com interview with John Gonzalez.

Personally, I could care less, but Philly sports fans take that to heart.  The Sixers P.R. people should have told him, he can say he was a fan of the Cowboys in his childhood, but now he’s a fan of the Eagles.

I was going to use Dominic Brown as example of a good player, who made the mistake of saying he was a Cowboys fan.  Unfortunately, Brown is a bad player and it wouldn’t matter if he grew up with an Eagles tattoo on his leg, he still wouldn’t be loved by Philly sports fans.

Okafor will get the chance to get on the good side of Philly sports fans when he plays of the Sixers in the summer league action.

“I’m just going to try to dominate,” Okafor said. “I don’t worry about [numbers].”

Don’t worry Okafor, all you have to do is lead the Sixers to a couple of NBA title and all will be forgiven.

Not a big deal at all.

Their has been many guys that played in this city and that currently play here that are fans of other teams

You can’t expect guys to change their feelings.

Ike Reese for example, he played for the eagles and does radio here in Philly and covers the Sixers etc but openly states that he’s a Lakers fan

Maybe while playing for the team you shouldn’t mention it but at least hes honest

But as long as he doesn’t say he’s a Knicks fan and that he roots for them or another team in his division then everything is cool

Not a big deal at all!

Moving on!

Honestly as long as Okafor dominates on the court I could care less. Allen iverson was not an Eagle fan either. Most fans loved him tho.

Why you worried about players on other teams when you should be worried about your sixers who haven’t won squat in decades. Right hypocrite ?

Why the F would you think a 19 year old kid who goes I to a draft to end up anywhere in North America should be a fan of the teams where he gets drafted… Good like the cowboys Jahlil, good dom brown…why the hell does anyone think they should become a fan … Come on.

Let’s get this straight, a kid from philly goes to duke for a year, wins the national championship, gets drafted third by the mavericks is supposed to say he’s a cowboys fan? Or gets drafted by the heat, he’s a dolphins fan? Come on this is bullshit…let the kid enjoy himself.

Okafor is actually from the Chicago area I believe…
He’ll be fine… Article was much to do with nothing…
He was initially disappointed thinking he was going #2 to the Lakers but I am sure as he had a chance to regroup about his long-term goals and success at the NBA, coming to a young Team that’s building Talent with only 1 direction to go should be a great fit for him and the other young Talented Players…
I was hoping Okafor would fall to #3 for I believe he is the most ready NBA player to come out of the Draft in few years… Does he need to work on his Defense,Passing and get Stronger, absolutely he does, but he has a strong work ethic and a desire to be an elite player (similar to Noel’s) which is a good thing as they will push each other along with Embiid to all improve their games

Starting out I can see some average Stats/Production as Follows

Okafor with 16-20 Pts a Game & 10-12 Rebounds & 2-3 Blocks
Noel’s with12-15 Pts a Game & 10-12 Rebounds a Game and 3-4 Blocks
Embiid with 8-12 Pts a Game & 6-8 Rebounds a Game with a Block or 2

The 76ers really should get 45-50 Points a Game between these 3 Players along with 25-30 Rebounds and 6-7-8 Blocked/Altered Shots

Of course there will be some growing pains and time needed for all the Players & Coach’s to get on the same page but if all 3 remain healthy could be a real Beast to contend with the next 6-8-10 Years as the Team surrounds itself with more Talent in the Backcourt and will get Saric to join Grant/Topoko out on the Wings

These Projected Stats are based on the Start of the Season where Embiid will have to adjust and learn how to play at the NBA Level after missing all of last year and do note that Embiid does not have as much background experience as Okafor/Noel’s does, of playing basketball..

Top 3 ROY For 2015-2016
1) Okafo

Embiid has had the advantage of working with the Sixer’s strength coaches for a year. But he makes Okafor look small, but we all know Okafor has size to him. Happy 4 th to you all

Good stuff diddy

Yea Embiid is now 7’2″ and Okafor around the 6’10” 6’11” range

So Embiid will tower over many

What Paul doesn’t realize because he doesn’t watch basketball much at all unless it’s the playoffs or finals, is that Embiid is a better all around player than both Okafor and Noel

So it will be much easier for him to get points opposed to the other two because he has a variety of ways of scoring the ball

He has the ability to score inside and outside

The other two bigs dont have that apart of their games right now but they may develop a jumper of some sort down the road

So Embiid would be the one to score the most points

What a dumb article. That is normal for a move in. Leave the kid alone. When I moved to town in 91, I was a huge Vikings fan. It was like sports culture sock per say. But rooting for Reggie White was easy. Now, not only do I bleed green, I am green.

LaMarcus Aldridge has picked his hometown team, the San Antonio Spurs

This will be us in a year or two

Having the ability to sign mega free agency to come play in Philly for a chance to contend for a title every year, this will eventually be us

I hope!

Alldridge is from Texas but not SanAntonio and was really trying to sign with the Mavs as Dallas is his Hometown and not San Antonio…
But SanAnotnio gives him a great chance to Win now and in the Future..

Tim Duncan continues to rise on my list of greatest players in all of sports. He is the epidemy of culture, character and talent. The guy never sought the spot light . Never said hey look at me . Never dunked and acted like an asshole… Team first, maybe chip can recruit him.

“Epitome” I believe… and I Agree with your assessment on Tim Duncan.. What a Career he has had and a fine example on doing things the right way on and off the playing field/court which is very hard to do anymore in this day and age of 24/7 Coverage and “got you” journalism .. Duncan’s demeanor, attitude has not changed since he played for Wake Forest many years ago.. The same guy on and off the Court… Amazing..

What are you in the correct everyone mood?

Give it a break, especially with how many typing errors you make per day on here.. jeez

You don’t even watch basketball unless the playoffs or finals are on

Who are you trying to fool us or yourself?

And Tim Duncan is not as squeaky clean as he lets on to be

Especially that divorce he had that got swept under the rug, bisexual rumors etc..

The greatest player ever Michael Jordan was not squeaky clean off the court no matter how great he was on it

Everyone thought Tiger Woods was perfect on and off the golf course until one fatal day a golf club met a Escalade window and the rest is history

HAC rarely makes Typos, I just wanted him to have the correct spelling, and as far as LeMarcus Aldridge hometown, everyone knows that’s it’s Dallas and that he really had his heart on finishing Career as a Maverick but as long at Dirk Nowitzki is there, the Mavs were not going to pursue him as they play the same Position… Mavs will likely regret on not signing Aldridge, but that’s their problem…
San Antonio is not Aldridge’s Hometown so I am not sure where you got that from… Texas is a Big State

I was going for eponymy actually …which means the derivation of names…so culture and class were derived from him…vocab lesson boys. It was a typo above the vocab of spell check.
No one said he is a saint… He has been a model player, team mate…never heard bisexual rumors but if he is so the F what? You guys all think character means choir boy clean… Not at all…

Nice try to clean that up…epitome fits in too perfectly though..I remember eponymy from my SAT studies. I would suggests David Robinson would be more of the model of culture and class incarnate when talking about basketball.

No eponymy is the word I wanted to use but thanks for your help. Robinson may in fact also be used in that sense but he was not germane to the thread as I was simply commenting on Duncan’s professionalism, unselfishness and team first attitude.

Lakers to Acquire Big Man Roy Hibbert and take on his final Year Contract at
$15.5 Million since they whiffed on Bigs D Roberts, L Aldridge, G Monroe & Lopez.. Trade can’t be announced until after July 9th and it’s not been reported what the Pacers will get in return.. Pacers are going small & fast as many Teams are doing as they will no longer have Dave West & Roy Hibbert as they build around P George, M Ellis, G Hill, CJ Miles, Scola & their Top Draft Pick Myles Turner
