The 2015 season for the Philadelphia Eagles has been a series of ups and downs yet the playoffs still remain in sight. Saturday night could be the last meaningful game of the regular season if the Washington Redskins walk out of Lincoln Financial Field with the win.
A loss to the Redskins and the Eagles miss out on postseason for the second consecutive season under Chip Kelly. If there was ever a moment for Chip Kelly to prove he is more than a college level coach with a gimmick schemed offense, this would be the time.
Unfortunately, with the latest lackluster performance against the Cardinals and how the DeMarco Murray situation has opened up the Pandora box of questions, the Eagles are trending in the wrong direction heading into this divisional matchup.
Where the Eagles are falling apart, the Redskins are a team that is coming together. The return of Desean Jackson has added another weapon for quarterback Kirk Cousins and the chemistry between the two have connected on touchdowns in four of the last five weeks. Tight-end Jordan Reed will be another matchup the Eagles will need to game plan for. The third year former Florida Gator is having a career season and has totaled 16 receptions for 204 yards and three touchdowns the last two weeks.
The Redskins defense is a group that never gives up, completely decimated by injuries in the secondary, it’s a unit that plays physical but can be beat with the deep pass. The Redskins can generate pressure on opposing quarterbacks as their strength is in the middle of their defense, leaving them suspect for big runs to the outside.
It’s become both simple and predictable for the Eagles offense. They feature Ryan Mathews as the lead running back with Sproles being mixed in. Zach Ertz and Jordan Matthews are the number one and two receiving targets for quarterback Sam Bradford. What more can be said about the unit, it’s not going to all of a sudden change, and what role Murray takes on will become a storyline and not a component that helps the Eagles offense in a positive way.
On defense, the Eagles are struggling; they can’t stop the run or defend against the pass. Injuries have made their presence be known, Logan, Rowe and Maxwell were left hurting after the Cardinals game.
The defense has to contend with a quarterback throwing at nearly a 70% completion percentage, which means that even a strong pass rush isn’t enough to slow down Kirk Cousins. Alfred Morris has been a huge disappointment at running back this season for the Redskins but he could see plenty of running room this week. His physical style and the power of rookie Matt Jones have plenty of footage with what David Johnson just did to the Eagles defense.
This game should be one that is one by the Philadelphia Eagles. They should sense the urgency; they should step up in front of the home crowd and rebound after the embarrassment from the Cardinals game.
The entire season has been labeled with words like “potential” and “should of” which ultimately becomes a list of excuses and not a level of execution by a professional football team.
The Redskins sense the division is theirs for the taking. The Eagles are trying to convince themselves that they can actually win it. On Saturday, I expect the energy to be strong at first for the Eagles, but ultimately they can’t find a way to win the football game.

Both Offenses are pretty close in production but the Redskins come in with a confident QB in Kirk Cousins whose last 2 Games versus the Eagles have gone his way where he has played well and also has a healthy D-Jax who will payback the Eagles with at least 2-3 Big Plays tonight and especially against the Eagles beat up Secondary
BothDefenses stink at stopping the Run and the Game will likely be won or lost with which Teams runs the ball more and for more Yards and I like the Redskins chances here a lot more than the Eagles who have basically given up on the run game.. I see Redskins Tandem of Morris & Matt Jones with a few reverses by WR’sD-Jax & J Crowder getting 150 Yards + on this beaten down Eagles Defense
I also like the Redskins Receivers Garçon and Slot Receiver J Crowder along with TE J Reed all to have big Games
You have to like the Redskins 3rd Down Conversion Rate and a better
Overall Kicking Game than the Eagles as they march on for a NFC East Title with a 34-23 Win over the Eagles
The only chance I give the Eagles is if they end up with + 2 in the Turnover Battle and get 1-2 Special Teams Play or Return or Block , etc,etc
But if Cousins plays a Clean Game, against this Eagles Defense
then the Redskins win going away.
