A Strong Coaching Staff Will Be Key For Pederson

ughA championship-caliber football team requires a number of elements. From talented players, to a competent head coach, all are important aspects.

But one element that is a little underrated, but very much a key factor, is the strength of the assistant coaches.

When Andy Reid first became the Eagles’ head coach, he assembled a tremendous staff that helped his program grow into something special. From Jim Johnson as his defensive mastermind, to key skill positions coaches that went on to be head coaches (or very good coordinators) in other towns.

John Harbaugh, Brad Childress, Ron Rivera, Leslie Frazier and Steve Spagnulo were all members of Reid’s staff during his early years with the Eagles, and played pivotal roles in helping the Eagles reach four straight NFC Championship Games.

Towards the end of Reid’s tenure, he was never able to replace the quality of his assistants that left, and the team suffered because of it.

Instead of Brad Childress or Rod Dohower as his offensive coordinator, Reid had Marty Morhinweg, an incompetent coach who enabled a lot of Reid’s poor offensive tendencies.

Jim Johnson’s departure hit Reid’s team the hardest. The defense was never the same after Johnson passed away, with Sean McDermott in over his head for two years, and an unqualified Juan Castillo taking the reins for a year and a half.

Johnson’s lieutenants also weakened considerably. Instead of guys like Rivera, Spagnulo, or Frazier, the Eagles had complete fools like Rory Segrest in place.

Anyone else recall the baffling era of Rory Segrest? Segrest was another unqualified coach who had no business coaching in the NFL. He initially took over the Eagles’ special teams from John Harbaugh. Once he failed there, the Eagles curiously moved him to the defensive line for several years before mercifully firing him.

Other notable poor assistant coaches that helped bog down the final years of the Reid era were special teams coach Bobby April and infamous defensive line coach Jim Washburn.

As Reid’s number of quality assistants declined, so did the quality of his football team.

Chip Kelly’s failure was also helped by weaknesses on his staff. He had a puppet of a yes-man as his offensive coordinator in Pat Shurmur, who never challenged Kelly on any of the offense’s schematics, and served as little more than a cheerleader for Kelly and the offense, telling anyone who would listen about the benefits and supposed-wonder about Kelly’s system.

Kelly set his defense up for failure the minute he hired Billy Davis to become his defensive coordinator. Davis had an extremely poor track record coming into Philadelphia, and sure enough he turned in plenty of embarrassing performances throughout his tenure. The Eagles have had solid defensive talent throughout the Kelly era, but Davis was never the guy who was going to get the most out of them.

That’s why for new head coach Doug Pederson, its going to be absolutely essential to assemble a strong coaching staff.

With Pederson taking on his first head coaching experience, he’s going to need a couple of experienced coaches around him that can help him feel his way through the early growing pains that he’ll endure.

So far, only a couple of assistants have been named to the new staff. They’ve hired defensive assistant Ken Flajole, who was set to become a defensive coordinator in the college ranks. Former Eagles safety Tim Hauck, a fan-favorite who made a career out of toughness and grit, will be an assistant defensive backs coach. Reports indicate that current defensive backs coach Cory Undlin will also remain.

The Eagles reportedly have interest in former Lions head coach Jim Schwartz, as well as Steve Spagnulo for the defensive coordinator position. Frank Reich and Brad Childress have been named as possibilities for the offensive coordinator spot.

One would think there’s a decent chance that Duce Staley remains on the staff in some capacity, and special teams coach Dave Fipp also has a shot to stick.

The new staff will take shape over the coming weeks, and we’ll have a better idea of what Pederson’s odds of success may be.

It’s been reported by CSN Philly that New HC Pederson is retaining the following 4 Coaches from last Season
RB Coach – Duce Staley
OL Coach – Jeff Stoudtland
DC Coach Gary Undlin
Special Teams Coach- David Fipp

With the reportedAdditions of Tim Hauck and Ken Flajole, Pederson/Roseman
Will need to Hire a DC & DL Coach for Defense along with an OC, QB, TE & WR’s Coachs and Quality Control Coach’s
I have not heard or read anything about the Strength & Conditioning Staff led by Rick Burkholder if they remain or are heading West to join Chip Kelly

keeping Undlin and hiring Hauck for the secondary.
Carroll & Thurmond are free agents this off season, wonder if they attempt to keep them? Brandon Boykin is a UFA also from Pittsburgh. Could Howie bring back his nickle back & own draft pick?

I expect both Carroll & Thurmond to move on as they will get larger Offers from other Clubs in Free-Agency
Eagles have had both Players on the cheap and especially Carroll for the last 2 Years and these Players will cash in..
I believe Undlin and Eagles were happy with Eric Rowe’s Development and will be a Stsrter opposite Maxwell with his huge Contract just has to Play
I do see the Eagles a Offering a Deal to Thurmobd who played very well in 2015 and had his first real healthy Season since 2012
I think he goes to the Highest bidder

Carroll will likely return Home and sign with Ravens/Redskins who a have needs at CB

Andy Reid’s downfall in Philly was his drug addict sons having a drug emporium in his home then hiring the rotten apple to assist the Eagles strength & conditioning coach in the weight room leading to overdosing in a Lehigh dorm during the Eagles mini camp there.

Excellent article Denny as usual.

Yup, absolutely right!! He will need all the help he can get because the man isn’t qualified for the job. Jefferey Lurie thinks Howie’s ego being stroked is more important than doing what is necessary to win a Super Bowl, and building a CHAMPIONSHIP Coaching staff, and team.

There are so many more qualified Coordinators still out there that still have yet to be interviewed – and although some of those lost this past weekend – all of those men have at least been involved more fully in calling plays, and personally involved in designing innovative strategies for the overall game plans of their respective teams.

Pederson – although OC in title – Is nothing more than the QB Coach, when Andy calls 98% of the plays. I hope Spagnulo , and Reich don’t come here as the Coordinators, because they stink….Straight up

Howie is as bad as Chip with his overconfidence. My system works ; ” Just coach the team, and I will bring in the talent”…..Guess what Howie??…You’re not that great at selecting talent – You’re not GMCliff – and a better Coaching Candidate would demand Higher standards – and he knows it

– All I know is that It better work, or he should be out the door. How many NFL Organizations would hire Howie Roseman in the same position he has now, without having any prior success???

Your on the money here gmcliff.
There is a very good article in Philly.com entitled:
“Eagles dropped ball by consulting Ron Jaworski about coaching hire” by Dave Murphy
The whole process just has the feel of an organization that just does not know what it is doing. I think those qualified good coordinators you talk about gmcliff look at the Eagles and say ‘thanks but no thanks.
Who wants Howie the Accountant calling the shots that could impact their ability to win?
Of course, Pederson- who no other team in the NFL had any remote interest in-is jumping at the job as he should…great opportunity for him and he might be a pretty good Coach.
He also might be in over his head with an antiquated west coast offense that good defensive coordinators around the league have no problem defending.
We need to see results..and quickly too…or else its going to be bad…really bad.

That “great article” by Murphy was a big heaping unsubstantiated hatchet job. Emblematic of the Philly media to rip and spin every single non-issue that tweeks their fancy.

Almost every single team constantly brings in consultants, to asssist being on coaching searches, offensive and defensive strategy, how to improve wireless access in the stadium.

Common practice for every team in the league, yet Murphy goes off on a ridiculous, completely made up rant where he rambles incoherently about how owning golf courses disqualifies him from advising.

Prure drivel.

No wonder you loved it.

Jaws has more knowledge of the NFL right now than John Elway did on the day the Broncos made him the Executive Vice President of Football Operations.

Jaws has studied more film than most NFL head coaches, and has access to every teams coaching films every week.

He also studies film every week with with guys like Jon Gruden and Charley Casserly – both highly regarded coach/front office exec.

Jaws spends a couple days each week with one of the 32 NFL head coaches visiting practice and other team functions. Jaws knows personally, every coach in the league. Jaws can call or text any NFL head coach.

Not only that – Jaws has a close relationship with many of the NFL franchise owners.

I golfed last summer with an former executive of NFL films who told me that Jaws is one of the most respected men in the NFL.

Oh, by the way, Jaws is also president of the Maxwell Club.

The guy that wrote that article knows NOTHING about Jaws’ NFL connections.

Actually it was a very well written article that highlighted some very good points. Murphy astutely notes here:

“Again, the issue isn’t Jaworski’s football knowledge. He has 20-plus years of experience with the league, some of it firsthand. He has been far more successful at his job than at least one of the three members of the Eagles’ official search committee. But that’s kind of the point. The Eagles weren’t simply deciding if candidates like Gase were right for them; they were trying to show that they had more to offer than teams like the Giants and the Dolphins. They knew that Roseman’s reputations and personnel track record raised eyebrows around the league They knew that their lack of patience with Chip Kelly had the potential to make prospective coaches wonder about what kind of benefit of doubt they would receive. And bringing in a guy on TV was the best they could do?

There is spot on and only a fool like you Vinny would attempt to discredit this accurate assessment. There is nothing “unsubstantiated” about this at all. It is well known that Roseman has a bad reputation. through out the league. So what does it say when you have a TV guy who has never served in the front office or management of any NFL team sitting in on your interviews?

Its an indication that you dont really have a strong front office, and you simply dont know what the hell you are doing.
So Murphy’s question here is important:

“If your are an NFL head coach, are you really comfortable knowing that Jaworski’s analysis of your performance has the very real potential of impacting your fate?”

This is a very good question.

Of course, teams hire consultants but anyone with any common sense sees the hiring of Jaws- and the subsequent ‘news report’ with him holding a big binder while the cameras zoom in on Pederson’s name was a cheap public relations ploy.
What this signals to serious head coaching candidates is that your front office is in disarray. When ‘getting along’ and having a ‘comfy’ work environment replaces winning football games your in big trouble.

But of course, I know all of this goes right over your head Vinniedafool…

Andy Reid was a good coach, but he showed again this weekend that he still has serious issues with clock management. I love the story that a KC staffer took his challenge flag away at the 2 minute mark; it speaks volumes about a guy that rarely learned from his mistakes.
Doug Pederson is a bad hire. He was the OC for a team whose strength was its defense. His wide receivers caught no touchdown passes last season. His offense this season was bottom 5. Due to his history here, he will immediately be behind the 8 ball.
Pederson could prove me wrong; I certainly hope he does.

Steve Spagnolo’s Recent Track record since 2009

2015 Giants – Ranked 32nd in the NFL (Worst in all the NFL – No Playoffs)
2014 Giants – Ranked 29th in the NFL – No Playoffs
2013 Ravens – Was Secondary Coach (Ravens Ranked 12th)
2012 Saints – Ranked 32nd (Worst Defense Statistically in the History of the NFL with over 7,000 Years Given up – No Playoffs -Go Ask Malcolm Jenkins)
2011 Rams – Defense was Ranked 22nd (2-14 Record – No Playoffs)
2010 Rams – Defense was Ranked 19th (7-9 Record – No Playoffs)
2009 Rams – Defense was Ranked 29th (1-15 Record – No Playoffs)

Can anyone give me 1 Good Reason why Steve Spagnuolo should be the Eagles Next DC…. Just because he was part of the NY Giants Super Bowl Staff in 2007 is not good enough for me and living in the Past?

This Guy has gone the last 7 Years without a sniff of the Post-Season outside his short stint with the Ravens as Secondary Coach as a favor from Harbaugh.. In fact 4 of his 7 Years , His Defenses have been Ranked 29th or Lower and in 2 of those Seasons, Ranked Dead Last ….
No Thanks on Steve Spagnuolo, forget the Friendships and Kumbaya’s..

I don’t believe that Lurie, nor Roseman as a GM, can put together a staff that could produce an eventual SB winner. The guys at top in front office have to have the mindset of guys who have played the game…period!
Both of those guys have lived the “fluff life.” Lurie got lucky with Reid early, but the poor game day coaching revealed deep problems. Lurie didn’t have the courage to make changes but instead just kept the guy on for another 8+yrs!
Too much touch-feely stuff is not what Eagles history is about. Better hope that Lurie sells soon.

havablunt…once again…you are all smoked out and doped up

No one can speak in any absolute terms about Pederson saying he is going to be good or bad…

What we can assess is the process…Paulman is right there is too much damm touchy-feely stuff that we are being sold on…”emotional intelligence”, “getting along”…

How about throwing some candidates in there that has some playoff wins, some experience…

Why not at least interview a defensive coordinator that’s about to play in the NFC Championship game with a very good defense? What’s wrong with taking a look at some offensive personnel that does something beyond the tired old West Coast offense..that not a single team in the NFC or AFC finals use..
This “get-along” stuff is ridiculous…if the Eagles stink this year they wont get along with the paying fans very well at all. All the fluffy “feel good” stuff goes out the window when those boos start raining down, when the shirt sales start going down.
The word is out…the Eagles are looking for people that Howie the Accountant can control-a lot of good Coaches are not going for it, and the Eagles know it…hence they trot Ron Jaworski out there..a TV guy who has never been in any NFL management position…to sit in on interviews and sell it to skeptical fans who want and deserve a winning team for a change!
They better be right..they better hope that “organizational harmony” with Howie leads to some damm wins on the field…if not…they will hear about it!

There seems to be a lot of unsubstantiated bs floating around. The biggest one being Coughlin pulled out bcuz Lurie/Roseman wanted to push asst. coaches on him. His asst’s became unavailable once McAdoo took over the Giants. At age 70 he did not want to start over building a new coaching staff, otherwise he would have came here with many of them.

Not True Johnny,
Coughlin knew the most on the Giants Current Staff are still under Contract for 2016 and TC also knew that Ben McAdoo was very likely to be named as Giants next HC so he would have had the same issue about getting a Staff Together no matter where he interviewed at ..
His close personal Friend Kevin Gilbride would have come out of Retirement if needed, to become OC, Defensively, there are plenty of Coach’s not on the Giants current Staff like Perry Jewell, Raheem Morris, Pepper Johnson, Lovie Smith, Mike Smith that could have worked the Defense..

What Coughlin did not want was to be told what Assistants that he had to have from Kelly’s Staff, TC wanted to be in charge of getting his Staff together, not more “Emotional Kumbaya” Assistants that Roseman/Lurie liked from Kelly’s Staff, Once Coughlin got wind of this, he was No Thanks
Mr Lurie/Roseman…
Wouldn’t a Staff Question for Coughlin have been discussed during the 1st Interview ? Why Schedule a 2nd Interview if this wasn’t already hashed out ?

Most likely scenario is Roseman throws a wrench into the Deal by telling TC you need to Staley, Fipp, Stoutland & Undlin on your Staff and maybe even
Pat Shurmur which then TC pulls out and say’s “F these Amateurs”…

Kumbaya…

Anybody see that display that Jahlil put on versus Portland? Kid is going to be special. It is very rare to see a 20 year old with the IQ, and footwork this has at this age in his career. Kind of scary how the Lakers thought he would never develop a jump shot. This kid is so wise beyond his years in terms of how he plays the game. He will be a next generation athlete at the center position, kind of how Curry is at the PG position.

Him and Porzingus will be battling for the next 15 years.

Okafor has been hitting that short rage jump shot the last 3 games. Everyone tries to force Okafor off the low post and if he keeps shooting the foul line jumper so well, he will be unstoppable. But Okafor is a very bad pick and roll defender. ( Good and Bad)
Milwaukee’s Jon Henson beat the crap out of Okafor. He threw him around like a child. He had Okafor on the ground like 6 times as Okafor could not get his shot off. Okafor missed the next 3 games, Henson beat him up so bad. Utah’s Rudy Gobert did a number on Okafor too. Those long armed Centers who play off Okafor dominated him. But that was before this short jumper started dropping lately. I’m interested to see him play against Gobert & Henson again.

Just to give you an idea what others (outside Philly) think. Here’s some words about the teams that were looking for head coaches.

After the Giants job, the Eagles job was the most attractive to potential coaches, according to the author.

You’ll note that every team has their own negatives….

EAGLES
I pointed out that Lurie seemed soft in relieving Kelly of his duties because Kelly wasn’t very cuddly. I do believe, though, that Lurie would have put up with Kelly had Kelly done a better job with personnel picks and not pissed off so many players. It was those failings AND the fact Kelly was cold that doomed him. Changing a coach means saying, “I failed as an owner and picked the wrong guy.” I don’t think Lurie, who clearly thinks he messed up hiring Kelly, wants to be admitting failure again anytime soon and he also understands there’s some digging out to do post-Chip. They also are a deep-pockets franchise. The downside, you’ll have to deal with a Machiavellian GM in Howie Roseman whose an adept and ruthless office politician who is staring at his own Eagles mortality if things don’t go well so you have his sweaty-little hands wringing all the time as you try to run the show.

49ers
Jed York is just young. If he can stop promising championships, invoking conversations he had with Uncle Eddie DeBartolo and settle into being who he is without worrying about how everybody else views him – he can be the smart, innovative owner the Niners will need to climb out of the mess he and GM Trent Baalke oversaw. York is the definition of a kid who was born on third base and thinks he hit a triple, being elevated to his position as the franchise marionette by his mom and dad. But after running off Jim Harbaugh and then hiring Jim Tomsula – a guy cut out for a supporting role if there ever was one – he’s peed down his leg enough to realize he better stop jacking around and let things alone for a couple of years. The roster is a steaming mess, yes, but there’s a high draft pick and a great tradition in San Fran for the right coach to step into.

BUCCANEERS
Firing Lovie Smith because – apparently – the Bucs were concerned about losing offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter to another head-coaching job elsewhere. The Glazers believe Koetter is the key to making sure Jameis Winston’s arrow keeps pointing up after a good rookie year. This job isn’t really “open” since Koetter is almost assuredly a layup. If he doesn’t take it, though, you got problems. Winston has just been coronated as the most important person in the franchise with the move to fire Smith. Even if everyone understood that, when guys are losing their jobs to make sure the quarterback stays comfortable, you’re giving that quarterback an open lane to outsized entitlement. Will Winston take it? Don’t know. But this job – especially after the firing of the popular Smith – is a minefield and the Glazer Family runs the team with little sense of direction.

DOLPHINS
Probably the best roster in place of all the teams that have openings. Stephen Ross is an absentee owner, though, who relies too heavily on the advice of his underlings. His head underling currently is Mike Tannenbaum, who’s got a kind of Howie Roseman deal in place now minus the GM duties which were given this week to Chris Grier (son of former Patriots personnel man, Bobby Grier). There all kinds of other “advisors” in place down there as well, including Dan Marino. These splintered fiefdoms are dangerous and until Ross decides he wants to get his hands dirty by running the team and keeping order, it remains a head coaching job to be leery of.

TITANS
The biggest issue is not knowing who may wind up owning the team. Despite assurances the team isn’t for sale, the way the team is run is a source of consternation for the league office. They need to get their house in order down there or sell the team. And the latter remains in play until the house is in order. That being the case, any new head coach could find himself at the mercy of an as-yet-unknown new boss who may not like the cut of his job and may not know whether to poop or go blind once taking over his new toy. So even though Marcus Mariota is an inducement, the ownership uncertainty is an impediment.

BROWNS
So Jimmy Haslam seems intent on trying to build a better mousetrap in Cleveland. He’s hired baseball executive Paul DePodesta as the team’s Chief Strategy Officer, which sounds like a high-priced backseat driver. And Haslam also hired an attorney who’s been in charge of cap and contracts – 39-year-old Sashi Brown – as football overlord. There’s room for a personnel guy under Brown and – of course – for a head coach. But this situation is set up to fail. Two guys who have something to prove that were handpicked by Haslam to – basically – ensure decisions made by the coach and GM line up with what the data suggested. If the decisions don’t match up, it’s “We told him so…” if they do match up and they don’t work, it’s a coaching problem. No thanks. No way.

ESPN also said Chip Kelly was a great hire. Chip Kelly is great.
ESPN says MV7wins was a great QB – MV7wins becomes the Avatar pic.

And on it goes. He’ll roll this way for another 10-15 years then will eventually realize the talking heads on TV, or the national sprotswriters who he so admires and follows 1 – no no more than the average fan. 2 – often have to follow the “company” line (IE telling us over and over the Favre was great when he hadn’t been for a decade, or a more recent example, major national sports publications and broadcasters debating Tiger woods chances for a major when everyone in the world knows he’s been finished for over 5 years)

That kind of thing….once the narrative has been written: “he’s a balle! He’s the greatest!” “He shows up on gameday” or whatever it is….it never gets re-written untill well after everyone already knows differently.

What the fuck does ESPN know about Adam Gase, Doug Pederson, or Ben McAdoo’s ability to be a head coach???

Absolutely butt fuck all.

They are clueless.

So it, of course, is no suprise that another clueless clown in here, Kooltwit, spouts that nothingness as Gospel….emptiness filling his empty head.

I posted the article to point out that most NFL ‘Front Offices’ are viewed as dysfunctional by the media types.

When you hear some local media nit-wit saying that Howie Roseman stands out as the worst GM in the NFL, you know he is full of shit… Howie Roseman is one of many lackluster GMs in the NFL.

There are GMs around the NFL that are far more hated than Howie Roseman. Including the guy in Indiana, Ryan Grigson.

Irish- excellent article/points- i try to point out to folks on here that we are so ‘close’ to our beloved teams we pick them apart mercilessly but in fact most of the time they act accordingly within their leagues. They make many of the same mistakes other organizations do-
The coaching search was not botched, it was not this unorganized mess that many on here and the media claim- obviously from Lurie’s initial statement they definitely wanted someone they were comfortable with– someone that upholds the same values they do– hiring chip was sexy, it was ballsy and we see how that worked….

They are not “football guys”, just talking heads. Maclin and Jason Kelce “footbal guys” spoke highly of Pederson as it relates to his ability to lead. At the end of the day none of us know until he actually begins coaching. No need for the doom and gloom sky is falling fire and brimstone posts until this guy actually begins to coach. ESPN and tons of people were high on Chip as a smart, sexy hire. Turned out to be a huge mistake. We will see, if Pederson can do the job successfully, great, I hope he can. However, if he can’t coach his way out of a paper bag then the FO and Pederson will be ripped like we always do. Plenty of time to do the latter…I am just waiting to see. Good luck Dougie Fresh!

What a load of crap that ‘press conference’ is and so many on this forum are so full of crap its ridiculous

Lets make it clear for the record!

Not a single one of us know whether or not Doug Pederson is a good coach!

He maybe the greatest coach in Eagles history and lead us to a Super Bowl

The guy has to be given a chance…the first good move he has made is getting Jim Schwartz-Good, solid strong move

But the Eagles organization is clearly full of shit

Anyone who objectively looks at the process and the candidates for Coaches and says that Doug Pederson was “definitely” the best candidate is simply a dumb ass fool-like Vinniedafool”

The guy was hand picked because he is anxious for a job and will do and say anything Howie tells him!

Anyone looking at the press conference (again-this doesn’t say he wont be a good coach…he deserves a shot) and listened to that bullshit, dumb ass response he gave as to why the Chiefs offense was so slow during the touchdown drive (which reminded us all of Andy Reid in our Super Bowl against New England) has to be a little worried.
Pederson says the reason why they wasted so much time on the clock being down 14 was because they didn’t want to give the ball back to Tom Brady!!
Are you serious? What kinda of dumb ass statement was that?
Let me say once again for the dumb asses on here…

Doug Pederson may be an excellent coach…but I damm sure aint buying the notion that he is the “most qualified” candidate from this ‘exhaustive’ search by Eagles management…that my friends is pure Eagles management propaganda and bullshit!

Cliff, some of you guys are to caught up in the soap opera that is Howie Roseman. I do not care about that drama, I am only concerned about how the players will perform for their coach…period. The players are not playing for Howie. Howie will be doing contracts, I do not know who will be running the draft as Lurie said a personnel guy will be brought in. All of that will come to light soon enough. To much attention is paid to Howie Roseman. If Pederson is his patsy, gopher, errand boy, whatever, as long as Doug can get these guys to play for him and he can coach..that is what matters. I just do not care about the Howie Roseman minutia…quite tired of that diversionary drama. Truth is, everyone who is employed and has a boss is a yes man so I just don’t care about that, it’s not as if Howie is going to tell Pederson what plays to run on 3rd and 7 so what do I care. Howie is Lurie’s guy for whatever reason so I have no say over what Howie does nor is Lurie listening to anyone complaining about him. Truth is we really have no idea what he does right now so why complain about it. It’s just whipping a dead horse right now..so last year. Howie was removed from the overall picture last year, how did the team perform? Like crap, so, there are more reasons why the team played bad which Roseman had nothing to do with. It’s just time to get over the media hype and crying of Howie Roseman.

The Best News of the Off-Season so far was Replacing DC Billy Davis
Back to a 4-3 , Eagles can Resign Curry, Put Graham back at DE & even use Connor Barwin and/or MS2 as Rotational DE’s as Pass-Rushers on passing Downs
Slide Fletcher Cox in at DT to pair up with Bennie Logan
Add another DT in the Draft and another Pass-Rushing DE in the Draft

A DT to check on in Free-Agency is Malik JAckson of the Broncos. The Broncos just extended their other young DT Derek Wolfe to a nice Deal but probably cannot afford to re-sign Malik Jackson too…

Yes Mac Dolo and you can add Beau Allen, into the mix at DT also..
With a 4-3 – Most Teams will carry 8-9 DL (4/5 DE’s & 4DT’s)
Whats good with the Eagles is that OLB’s Graham, Barwin can play as a DE
Fletcher Cox can Play Inside or even slide OUtside as DE if they go with a Big Line-Up in Short-Yardage

Yes that’s what I would have dones last Summer Camp GMCliff..
But I don’t work for the Eagles so it doesn;t matter what I think, the reality
is now MS2 and Kiko Alonso, Josh Huff, Nelson Agholor, Jaylen Watkins, and the other Young Players are pretty much given a new, fresh clean of slate to impress their new Coach’s .. It will be up to Pederson, Staff and Roseman to make these Decisions moving forward but the Reality is that they are not going to start Cutting/Releasing Players who are in their Rookie Deals and are still cheap until they see what they can do…
Give Pederson a Year or Two, and I’m sure some to many of these Kelly Picks/Players will be gone, but its not all going to happen this Off-Season for they still have to field a Team of 53 Players
I expect very little Player Movement this Off-Season, the Eagles will likely re-sign about 4-5 of their own Pending 12 Free-Agents, maybe add 2-3 veterans thru Free-Agency and then focus on adding 8-10-12 Players thru the Draft, Practice Squads, and/or picking up Undrafted Free-Agnets after the Drafat or picking up a Player or 2 in Summer Camp that get Released from other Teams, etc,etc
Pederson and Company will take a Year to see what they have first..
If he and his Staff can salvage a MS2 & Huff, and see nice improvement in Maxwell, Alonso,Agholor, J Watkins, T Burton, Barden, Tobin, Gardner, then they are ahead of the Game, If these Players are truly not good enough, then the Re-Building will take a little longer..

they don’t have a year
No one is going to sit around and wait for the team to rebuild..
Why should Fletcher Cox want to be waiting around for the team to rebuild?
Unless they are doing a massive clean out..cutting veteran players like Jason Kelce who is too small to play center for a power, down-hill running attack. Conner Barwin who I question if he can play as a 4-3 linebacker, getting rid of both Sanchez and Bradford…and starting some rookie..

Will fans be willing to sit around this upcoming season and settle for 3 or 4 wins?

Kool, Fletcher Cox will be back as long as the $ is right, he is excited about the switch back to a 4-3. As far as the fans are concerned, they are going to support the team, if it’s 3 or 4 wins, they are still going to be back the following season with greater expectation. If they only win 3-4 games next year, will you stop being an Eagles fan? Gotta be honest…7-9 with no playoffs is nothing great, and that’s what we were last year with this group of players..including Sam Bradford.

Hell No!

The Boo-birds are fans that will turn up the heat, Pederson will be blasted as a terrible choice and fans will point back to this crappy process and bash Lurie, Howie Roseman and this Coaching selection process.

There is not going to be any patience, Eagles fans have been waiting too long, too much suffering. We were 7-9 but still in the hunt heading into the Washington game…there was some hope…

Eagles fans aren’t going to accept doing a “Henkie” and being slop…

The Eagles players like Cox aren’t going for it either…and if we have a good defense next year…which we very well may have…you can’t scrap the season you have to retool….not a full blown ‘rebuild’ process

Kool, being in the Hunt at 6-8 was a joke, by the time the skins finished with them they fell to 6-9 and was eliminated from playoff contention. The last win to get to 7-9 was a joke. This team never had a shot this past season and any fan that truly looked at this team from an objective coaching and talent standpoint knew that. Those who thought they had a chance to get to the playoffs were fools, they lost 3 straight by multiple TD’s to Detroit, The Bucs and Miami. That was all you needed to see, the Patriot win was fools gold, an anomaly of percentages, anyone who fell for that was a sucker…plus they got swept by Washington, a sub-average team who won the division in the most pathetic division the league has.
The fans may complain and whine, but they will still be back..bottom line. It’s my belief the Eagles will not make the playoffs next year, Sam or no Sam, they will start to make their playoff run in the 2017 season as they start to inject talent back into the offense. This must win next year mantra is bull because the fans will be back in 2017 expecting to see progress and a better product.

Bottom line EHL…they WERE actually in the hunt…no matter how you spin it or assess the Eagles..they were in the playoff hunt with their own destiny in there hands…despite the bad losses without Bradford where the defense fell apart. Hopefully with the new defensive coordinator and going to a 4-3 our defense wont get smashed the way it did. The NFC East is still terrible…the other teams in the division including Washington are not significantly better than the Eagles.
The Fans will stick around but let the Eagles go through multiple years of losing…it will be unbearable, fans will stay home, no jerseys sold, no buzz…the team can slip into irrelevance…
According to Lurie, this is why he made the move because he claimed to see a trajectory of the team falling apart.
Your assuming the Eagles are going to have good drafts, that Howie will make sound decisions…Jaworski in NJ.com is calling for 2-3 more rough years…Pederson will be bashed unmercifully, players will lose confidence as the losing piles up, free agents will look else…
It can get really bad…

Koolbreeze, the idea of that Eagles team going to the playoffs and being “in the hunt” is simply a testament to how weak the division was, not how good the Eagles were…once again, anyone who thought this team was going to the playoffs or able to go and do some damage was fooling themselves…I have a NFL team to sell you if you believed the Eagles were going to the playoffs..what a joke. Every team has their destiny in their hands until they are eliminated so that is no great revelation. They could not even get it done. And yes, the Eagles suffered two losses while Bradford was out with an injury, well historically that is the problem with Bradford, he can’t stay on the field. As far as Howie, it does not appear that he will be evaluating talent or running the draft. That is why Lurie publicly stated that a new personnel director will be brought in. Relax and lean back for a minute to let this thing play out.

Here is my take…. go ahead and copy this for later down the line.

Im good with all of this. Im excited about the DC above all things. IF… IF… IF… he mixes up the scheme from time to time and IF IF IF he jams the wr’s from time to time… and IF IF IF we use some 2 safeties deep from time to time…. we will be lightyears better. I was more patient with Billy then others were… i loved WHAT he wanted to do, i hated HOW he did (or didnt) do it. With the 4-3 (most likely) coming to play, we will get to the QB.

I also think they should keep Sam. THis is because I believe they could be atop the NFCE next year if they tweek. I said the same Chip’s first year and was right. I see this as a 10-11 win team next year if….. 1) Keep Sam. 2) Get help on Oline 3) Add a Vet WR with great hands (not a superstar), 4) Figure out CB/SS- Rowe takes 1 spot. Id also like them to draft a QB but…. dont force it.

I can’t remember Bradford’s salary this year, but I assume it was fairly high, and I don’t see Bradford taking a penny less than that on the open market. If it were my call i’m not bringing Bradford back on a deal that is anything close to what he got this year. This team has too many needs, and i’m not going to anchor the team down with another deal that hurts the teams future flexibility. Especially when the Eagles are suffering at so many positions.

Curry, Cox, Logan, Graham are your starters and Barwin gets thrown in left and right. It has been said before that a Nascar package would be pretty sick… i can see it. As far as Smith goes… meh… he is cheap.. keep him i guess. The LB’s should be interesting… im looking forward to how it shakes out. Theory

Chip proposed trade for Bradford as a flip to get to # 2 from tennesee. Gamble fought with Howie about the feasibility..Howie saying no…It got heated and Howie zipped Gamble. Howie tells Jeff he will not back the plan.

Jeff gives chip the Controll and removes Howie. Chip fails to get Marcus. Jeff sees Chip is not emotionally invested and by mid season begins thinking about making a change.

Chip avoids responsibility and the Hammer falls.

On to a new Era.

I get his familiarity ,but he failed to be open minded to there NFL valuation..He gave up a 2 ,saddling the. Organizations n in his quest to land MM .I don’t trust his evaluation of Nick Foles ,but I do know I wouldn’t be giving a two for. A twice injured Bradford ,who was in a stare down position financially with the Rams and Fischer .How different would Pedersons regime be with a decent 2nd round pick ,this year ,and a known entity ,signed at QB ..Heinherits neither

That theory is plausible. I can totally see how Howie would have been at odds with Kelly over the whole trading business.

While Howie’s draft acumen can be called into question, the guy has shown the ability to put together a trade in the NFL. He seems to have a very good idea of proper “value”

I can see two levels to the conflict, the first with Howie going nuts that giving up a second for Bradford was too expensive (obviously) the second where Howie Eagles still wouldn’t have enough ammunition for Mariotta (why would Tenny want Bradford??)

They both went to Lurie with their Plans….Chip, “It’ll work!!” and Roseman, “Its fucking stupid!!” and Lurie went with Kelly.

Lurie now realizes his mistake. Howie gloating he was right all along. And that’s all she wrote.

Regal. Bradford was a pawn in a different. Scenario..he was chattel.i truly don’t believe chip in a million. Years saw Sam I am as the messiah ..that’s laughable ,and at the money he’s going to demand ,I pray he is on somebody else’s roster ..he’s in a pure football sensibility and injury risk ,just not a good fit ..low hanging fruit always appears ,pick a cheaper healthier version of a less than stellar QB and strengthen other areas of need Or ,draft a guy and let Sanchez get you closer to another ,back to back good drafts scenarios..and asking Sanchez to play Pederson ball (dinking and dunking ) is a good fit ..it’s what he does ..last year the most revenue went on running the rock ,with one exception …the O line ..start by protecting that investment ,use a safe scheme at QB and watch the defense emerge under a real D coordinator..I witnessed in AZ the post illy Davis defense ..it was remarkable its emergence ..not coincidental..

Pedersons propensity is to run ,and run some more ..when you vanilla up the QB position ,why pay top $$ for a guy ..makes no sensibility ..Run the rock ,punish people defensively and over utilize your tight ends ..That and effective coordinators will be enough to distract the fan base ,and show a trajectory ,rebranding the players and allowing. The fans to reconnect with them ,on a more consistent basis ,will be a breath of fresh air .In my estimation the defense and special teams will define this next regime ..Which is ironic ,being we hired an offensive coach ..

Are you kidding…this is today’s NFL not the NFL of 30 years ago desert!

You need a QB that’s smart, that knows how to read defenses that can make all of the throws

You are not going to be an effective running team when you dont have a QB that can throw the rock

You need a franchise QB period.

The best available QB is Sam Bradford the Eagles need to pony up and pay him

We dont need a year of Sanchez with the ‘hope’ that we will ‘develop’ some rookie who may or may not be able to play. This year’s draft for QB’s stink none of them project to be anything more than a back up with the exception of Jared Goff and he’s gone by 13
Pederson as already made it clear what he thinks of Bradford:
“I think Sam’s a quality quarterback, I think he’s a top-notch quarterback,”Look at what he did the last half of the season. The numbers he was able to put up — he’s a quarterback that would fit perfectly into a system I’m going to bring.”
Since the Coach thinks Sam Bradford can run his system they need to resign him!

I believe Pederson has a little rope with the 2016 all in the name of “Strategic Planning” which means exactly what??
Pederson is walking into a under-performing Team with some Talent and some Players who earn big $$$ versus their Production…
I think they may offer a 2 Year Deal to Bradford but that’s it which he won’t accept and takes his services elsewhere inFree-Agency
Pederson doesn’t need to go all infor a QB that he didn’t choose…
The Goal “Strategic Planning” will be for Pederson to develop a Franchise QB by 2017 which means he will have to find one this Off-Season or in the Draft
But realistically this QB of the Future is not currently on the Eagles Roster

Desert, you are being thick-headed again…why are you so concerned about Jeff Lurie’s money? “Fiscal insanity” my ass…Quarterbacks dont grow on trees and if the Coach says that Bradford is a “top-notch” QB who can run his system…then you sign the guy even if it means slapping the Franchise tag on him for a year
Make it happen!…there is plenty of dead weight on this team that we can cut to make space to sign Bradford, Cox, and Curry

Here is what the new Head Coach who you strongly supports says Vinnie!

“I think Sam’s a quality quarterback,” Pederson said Tuesday. “I think he’s a top-notch quarterback. Look what he did that last half of the season, the numbers he was able to put up. As a quarterback, he would fit perfectly with a system that I’m going to bring.”

He thinks Sam Bradford fits exactly what he wants to do and believes he is a “top-notch” Quarterback!

Fall back Vinnie..If we are all for supporting the new Head Coach and giving him a chance…we have to give him a ‘top-notch’ Quarterback…and the Coach thinks Sam Bradford fits the bill!

Nope. Not going into 2016 with a solid team and a guy like Foles/Sanchez running the team. Tag Bradford and let him show what he is worth. Meanwhile do what you can to bring in a young guy to take over the franchise. But you can’t rush it. Look at the Vikes… They drafted QB ponder cause they had no options. Years wasted. No. Tag Bradford.. Id prefer that over a 3 year deal.

Its very unlikely the Eagles Tag Bradford as it’s just not how Lurie/Roseman look at PLayers Contracts… If they can’t get Bradford on a Short-Term Deal for their Price they will let him walk.. A 1 Year Tag will Cost about $22 Million
Howie Roseman would never go for this, especially when Bradford was a Kelly Deal to begin with…
Do Note that with a New Coaching Staff led by Pederson, 2016 may be a Season where Pederson gets some rope to improve the Roster with his “Strategic Planning” that Lurie likes…and actually buy himself a little time to get the right QB in Place or Draft one to groom for the Future, Doug Pederson’s hands will not be tied to Sam Bradford and when the Eagles only have Approx $24 Million of Cap Space to begin with for 2016 are sure not going to Pay Bradford $20-$22 Million of it, they wouldn’t even have enough $$$ leftover to sign Draft Picks let alone have 53-60 Players under Contract their Roster

Koolidiot. Do you know why Jawarski is talking about the Eagles being a 2-3 year rebuild???

Because it will be a 2-3 year rebuild.

Need 3 new Oline. Takes a year for young oline to get acclimated. That’s 3 draft picks and 2 years.

You yourself constantly screaming for new Wrs. Wrs take a year.

Eagles need a new CB. New safety. Need a pass rushing maniac.

AND OF COURSE

NEED a QB.

Sam Bradford, 29 next season, makes no sense for a team that is rebuilding.

Oh….and the Guy who said its a 2-3 year rebuild……he’s the one who has been advising Lurie!!!

They’re drafting a QB either this or next 1st round pick and he will be the man moving forward. Paying another team’s leftover like Padmystatsford is suicide and it isn’t going to happen.

There are to many upgrades and holes that will need to be filled thanks to Chip getting rid of talent and not adequately replacing it before significant progress will be seen.
Koolbreeze is upset over the role that Howie may play as it relates to building this team, although that has not been defined, and whether or not Bradford returns. Those who can not handle it need to jump ship now.

No way – not this time – Howie at $3 million per year is not ducking & hiding behind this new player personnel hire probably making $300 thousand like he has been when Banner, Reid and Kelly were sacrificed. He has the contract and survived the house cleaning for the 2nd time — THIRD STRIKE & he is out of here. Playoffs or Bust in 2016 – 2nd place doesn’t cut it.
Howie can purge those roster players like he did with Cary Williams and Nnamdi Asomugha & Jasen Babin ( paid them not to play here) but If they line up on week one he can’t hide and blame Chip.

Fools…Vinniedafool will have the team commit suicide

Draft what QB Fool? which one?

Idiot! EHL I haven’t demanded anything of Pederson that he didn’t say himself!

HE said that the Eagles are going to the playoffs next year…

Your all confused your brain is scrambled…

I stated facts…The Oline did suck…with Jason Kelce playing terrible, Peters constantly hurt…the running game suffered.

The wide receivers led the league in dropped passes

Those are facts not excuses

The defense was terrible…they were the biggest culprit in the Eagles demise!

So you and Vinniedafool are all aboard for the Coaching change…

It is natural to carry the expectation that the new Coaching staff will improve areas that the Eagles fell short last year. Improve the running game, add some offensive lineman, and a wide receiver that can catch the ball with some better coaching on defense and a weak NFC East…why cant the Eagles make the playoffs?
What you fools suggest is pure disaster…it is obvious that the Eagles front office is in disarray…despite all of the corny ‘assurances’ , the tired cliches’ the Eagles front office is a wreck…never have you seen a front office guy removed from his post like Howie was only to be restored…

Only a fool would fail to see that Howie is not qualified to be a GM

Eagle fans have a unmitigated right to identify and point out weaknesses with the team. You guys have bailed on the team repeatedly when something was done that didn’t fit your agenda…when Foles was shipped out…when Vick was chosen-you bailed.

So you are in absolutely no position to tell anyone to ‘jump ship’….you lames are professional ship jumpers…and now you calling for fans to get rid of Bradford, pick up any QB, and give the organization and Pederson a 3 year window to lose with the ‘hope’ that they will draft right (with Howie in charge despite the first round blunders he has made), hope that the QB they pick up can play…

Stop the bullshit.

Pederson is under the same pressure that every other Eagle coach should be under…and the Fans should apply the heat…you wanted the job here in Philly…you take what comes with it…pressure to win.

If you dont win we are going to boo, the bashing will be relentless as always…that is a simple fact of life for being the Eagles head coach..

Get used to it! Accept it or you fools should get another team!

We have gotten rid of Bill Davis who many said was a big reason for the defensive problems and got a much better coach in Schwartz!

What a dumb ass argument EHL…have you been drinking? Aint it a little too early in the day for that?

Of course I demand that the Eagles win…the vast majority of Eagles fans want to win!

We are in a weak NFC East…the other teams in the division are not significantly better than the Eagles and it can be argued that the Eagles are better than the Giants and Dallas…and not far off from the Redskins!

Asking the team to make the damm playoffs is not asking for some insurmountable task, not in the NFC East-Fool ass EHL!

You have made it clear…the problem is Chip Kelly…

Well that problem has been removed and the new coach has come in and said the he will make the playoffs.

Pederson said it…he didn’t have to say it…but he did!

I’m simply holding him to what he said…this team needs to retool NOT rebuild…so no getting rid of Bradford, Fletcher Cox, or key pieces of the team….they have to add some pieces and just like this year they should be able to compete and make the playoffs…and again…in the NFC East that’s not asking too much!

There is nothing “rational” about your arguments…its a clear path to disaster and 2 or 3 years of losing. You’ve been bamboozled by the buffoonery of an Eagles organization that has zero credibility. Out of one side of your mouth you say you want the new Coach to do well but then you dont have a clue as to how it could possibly work. Dumb ass cliches’ lets build for the ‘future’, lets draft a young QB
If you stop drinking the Eagles management kool-aid and getting drunk off of that you will see that of all the people you DONT want “rebuilding’ a team is Howie Roseman.
If Pederson knows you need a solid QB to win in this league. The Eagles demise last year was NOT because of poor QB play and the objective proof is what he commands on the open market. Someone is going to pay top dollar for a Quarterback who set a franchise record for completion percentage in the same year his receivers led the NFL in drops!
The rational and sane fan wants the QB position to be stabilized with talent now…not with a guess, a hope, a maybe someone will come along…
Pederson wont have a chance unless he gets the best available QB to help him NOW not maybe, perhaps some rookie will come along if we perhaps lose enough games and stink enough to get a top ten pick that will perhaps be high enough to get a QB that will one day, perhaps develop!
Fall back and kick rocks EHL…you and Vinniedafool can take that rebuild bull somewhere else to some other team…Eagles fans want to win!

Moron, first of all the Eagles will have to rebuild the offensive line as the Guards are garbage, Peters tank is on E, and Jason Kelce is an oversized full back who consistently was collapsed into the pocket. Then the WR position needs to be upgraded as well as a replenishing of safety and a corner. All of that can not be done in one off season. As far as your boyfriend Bradford is concerned, I will state it again for your dumb ass..I am fine with him coming back at the right price, however, the Eagles can’t do as you suggest and do everything they need to keep him, that would wreck the cap and the Eagles would wind up like Baltimore and the Saints are now you clown ass imbecile , so when would Cox and Curry get their money?…Never mind the fact that 17-15 is average, he threw 70% of his passes 10 yards or less, and he was ranked 29 in passes thrown over 20 yards, plus he has nothing but losing records, and he is injury prone! The Eagles would become Baltimore North, a QB, but unable to keep the other key pieces. You are so fixated on the QB position you are blind to the other areas of need like Reid was to the WR position. Stop being scared about finding a QB, it may be in 2017, so what the Eagles are not going to the SB next year anyway. Stop crying about Howie Roseman, you have no clue as to what his role is just as none of us do, but if he is going to pick the talent you should jump ship. I swear I haven’t heard so much bitching, moaning and crying since Nick Foles got the start over Vick, and amazingly enough it was you doing it then too. Go buy some Kleenex, wipe your tears and lean back! If Howie is picking the talent what are you going to do? Nothing but come on gcobb and cry, bitch and moan….jump ship cuz! Flip-flopping lying, twisting and turning…

What an idiot ass fool you are Vinnie!

The New Coach has come in and he has made it clear what he thinks that the talent assembled on this team can do…he thinks this is a playoff caliber team.

I say that the new Coach will go a long way by adding better defensive coaching…he has done that…Schwartz is better than Billy Davis and switching to a 4-3 should make us a better defensive team.In the NFC East a little better defense puts us right there.

The New Coach has already made it clear…he looked at Sam Bradford in the second half of the season and proclaimed that he is a “top-flight” Quarterback who can play in his system!

Now if the new Coach sets up a better environment, gets rid of dead weight like your buddy Riley Cooper…signs a veteran wide out who can catch the ball and add some quality offensive linemen in the draft…we will be able to compete in the weak NFC East…just like we competed this year!

And according to the new Coach…we should win!

So I’m supporting Pederson…the biggest move he made…getting Schwartz was a very important step to giving us a good defense…and everyone agrees with that…

This is not a tear the team down from scratch project…its a retool NOT a rebuild where we now should only expect to win 3 or 4 games….

Who the hell cares about winning the NFC East next year?? Like that is some sort of goal. Who gives a shit.

Eagles want a 10 year run of continued excellence you putz. And that’s going to teak a slow rebuild. I want 5 olinemen (obv with 1 or 2 changes over a prolonged period) working together for 7-10 years. I want a 10-12 year QB who excells for the 5 years of his prime from 27-32. I want multiple runs deep into the playoffs with a legit chance at winning the SB.

I don’t give a shit about re-signing a 29 year old re-tread, squeaking to 9-7 and getting fed by a much superior squad while the 29 yr old loses his first playoff game like all first time playoff QBs do with the only knowledge he’ll be back the following year at 30…or 31…..and that’s IF he doesn’t get snapped in half. And for that twig, the odds are pretty fucking low.

You SCREAM for 8-8 “win now” mediocrity.

But if you were just to shut your trap for a second, you’d realize you’re the only one screaming for that.

Sam Bradford. Cleveland Browns thinking.

Q. When you look at the roster you’re inheriting, is this a team that you believe can be back in serious playoff contention next season?

DOUG PEDERSON: I do. I do. And there’s some pieces that we’ve got to work on and try to get back, and free agency, as you know, you’re going to lose some and you’re going to gain some. I think the nucleus of this football team is very good. It’s structured very well. There’s some talent here and I do believe that you can put yourself in a position to not only win the [NFC] East, but have a chance to get yourself into the postseason and then go deep into the postseason.

So vinnie, I guess to answer your question… Head Coach Doug P the hell cares.

Did he also not say the Eagles had not had a winner “for a long time” and that he was here to turn that around” He was talking about turning the whole program around…not just looking for an “insta bump” that means nothing. I loved when he was talking about the slow rebuild early.

Then he changed the tune. I think he was a little flustered after getting peppered with the ridiculous “you weren’t the first choice” and “2 minute drill” questions and got off message a bit.

I think him saying that is going to hurt him because idiots like KoolBreeze (and there are a lot of media types like him) who are going to continue screaming about it for the entire next season.

As for your question: 2 options:

2 – OT at pick 13. Chase Daniels bridges. Qb with top 10 pick next year.

So- your plan is to take the best QB aval at pick 13 no mater what. Who cares if he fits the system, who cares if he has what we want. at 13 in this draft we will get a Ponder type player. step 1- Have him come in week 4 or so. Year 2- really want to see some growth. Year 3- See what he can do,

3 years on a QB who you dont even know they want. meh- no thanks.

IF.. IF.. IF…. DP sees a guy he wants… fine, go for it. Then trade away good players and start to build for 2018. But i hope he doesnt do that.

Or trade down….move around….early 2nd rounder next year like Carr…..whatever….but this team needs a new long term stud at QB in the draft.

And that isn;t Bradford. Even if he were to somehow magically become “elite” (and he won;t, but I’ll humour you) he’s already 29 and still hasn;t made a playoff game yet. Guy has 4 years left (max) before he starts on the downside of his career…..and he still isn’t good yet.

“2 options:
1 – QB at pick 13. Develops on the bench over the year. Chase Daniels bridges.
2 – OT at pick 13. Chase Daniels bridges. Qb with top 10 pick next year.”

Chase Daniels

A 6-1 career backup QB…we are going to bring him in and tell the current Players who just basically revolted on Chip Kelly for numerous of reasons…they would bring Chase Daniels in and tell the Players they have a chance to win with him as a starting QB.

Only a complete idiot would even suggest such nonsense

Opps…Vinniedafool falls right in that category!

Vinniedafool has not told us anything about which one of these college QB’s are franchise QB’s that we can build a team around….which one Vinnie?

Paxton Lynch? Connor Cook? Carson Wentz?

Which one of these guys is a franchise QB that can be like McNabb was for Reid?

You have admitted that Howie Roseman is terrible at drafting…he has messed up 2 first round picks. He is the guy now in charge and we are supposed to trust in Howie to “rebuild” the team?

You are a complete idiot!

Any Head Coach knows his success rides on the shoulders of the Quarterback. Pederson looks at the Eagles and sees a QB that set a franchise record for completion percentage in the same year his receivers led the NFL in drops!
There is no doubt in my mind he would take that over the career backup Chase Daniels and a hope and prayer that they can stink bad enough to maybe perhaps get a QB in the draft!
If they make such a stupid move like you are suggesting…he will not last long here in Philly…the fans will rightfully call for his head beginning this year…the organization will be bashed…sales will be hurting…the Eagles brand with very few National televised games will sink…Lurie will not be a happy camper especially if they do what you foolishly suggest-let Bradford go and hope that perhaps, maybe they can get lucky and draft a franchise back and not mess up and get another Christian Ponder or Nick Foles!

Fools and Idiot…I only pray that the Eagles front office is not that ignorant!

The eagles have finally bought in to the idea that the QB is the over riding most important position and you only get as far as the qb takes you. Football rebuilds are tricky because careers are short, money not fully guaranteed….and it’s impossible to tank…”hey don’t block anybody this play” ,”let them run the kickoff back”

Qb’s are the most vital part of a team in most cases…unless you have a lights out defense…then you can perhaps make do with mediocrity ala Baltimore…speaking of which as soon as they gave Flacco that huge contract they could not retain or their quality defensive players and they went down hill. That is why you can not give Sam Bradford a contract deserved of an elite QB..he is not that and his history indicates he will not be.

I agree Eagle. Sam is not worth that much of the cap amount. He is just a slightly above average QB who will hamstring this franchise if they decide to franchise him or sign him to something like 18-19 mil or more contract. And then there is the fact that he has a terrible injury history.

I think they treat this like the Phils treated Jayson Werth. Make him an offer that they can afford given what else they want to do as a whole. There has to be some sort of plan, so you don’t get willy nilly signings like Murray. If he accepts it, great. If not, then good luck to you.

Same happened to the saints… Elite QB’s create quite the paradox… The are necessary yet once they get paid they can cripple your team…since Sam is not elite by any standards they cannot dump that much into him… If he settles for 50$ million for 4 years with maybe $$30 guaranteed… But I think he can more… What teams think they can win if they had a QB? This is one of the new realities of the NFL. The team needs to win the SB BEFORE the team doles out the $100 million (or 20/year) contract. Saints, Buffalo, Seattle were all able to do that.

Eagles give out $20 million/year to a 29 year old QB…..who….and I have to repeat this because it is important:

STILL HASN’T EVEN EXPERIENCED AN NFL PLAYOFF GAME LET ALONE WIN ONE”

Is franchise suicide until that contract is off the books.

Eagles are currently saddled with 2 terrible contracts with Maxwell and Murray and clowns on here want to add another albatross to the Eagles Cap.

Pathetically stupid. And if its the path the Eagles take I’m going to be pissed because it’ll just be another 3 or 4 years of complete nothingness.

Eagles announced their coaches – Here’s a blast from the past… Greg Lewis is the new WR coach… I like Greg!

I see a couple of Hires with an eye towards 2017 with connections.
Asst OL Coach Eugene Chung from KC Chiefs may very well be groomed by Pederson to replace Jeff Stoutdland unless there is real improvement in 2016 with the OL which we really haven’t seen under Stoutland
Def Secondary /Quality Control Coach Dino Vassi also from KC will likely push out Gary Undlin come after next Season..
Tim Hauck played for and Coach with Jim Schwartz for the Titans and I see him getting the Full time Title of Defensive Secondary Coach for 2017 with Dino Vassi being promoted to Asst Seconday Coach and Undlin the odd man out

He is silly….however somebody is going to give him insane money– the league is so starved for QB’s–its kind of pathetic actually–

I doubt he sees anything north of $20 Million per Season, but who knows..
There are always desperate Teams/GM’s who are willing to take that chance to save their Jobs in hopes getting a Top QB
Him Requesting $25 Million won’t even warrant an Eagles response to counter-offer & negotiate. Sam Bradford & his Team clearly have no intention of re-signing with the Eagles in my opinion.. I never saw him as a long-term Player for the Eagles.. He’ll end up in Houston, maybe the Broncos and yes, or maybe even back to the Los Angeles Rams ..

Aaron Rodgers is making 22 million per, Bradford can’t touch Rodgers in any way, shape or form talent wise or accomplishments in the NFL. The two are not even on the same level. Bradford is worth 14-16 per, tops1 Accept to koolbreeze who will give Bradford anything…25-30 mil per for more of the same average play his history demonstrates…excuses be damned!

I don’t know why I do this, because I’m speaking to the most obtuse person on the planet….but once more unto the breach I suppose.

1 “A 6-1 career backup QB…we are going to bring him in and tell the current Players ….. they have a chance to win with him as a starting QB.”

Well first of all, 6-1 is aoubt 1000x better win %age than under .500 %age of Padmystatsford….but I digress.

Players will see Eagles draft a QB in the first round and they will play. Just like Runyan and Thomas played when Pederson was their QB, and like they played when McNabb took over.

Your argument is stupid.

Lewis and Reid played for 4 years while Flacco sucked. Woodson played for the final 2 years of his career while Carr sucked. A bazillion players have played when a QB has been drafted and another guy is holding the spot.

It happens every single year on every single team.

They will play.

2 “Which one of these guys is a franchise QB that can be like McNabb was for Reid?”

I have no fucking idea. (right now anyway) That’s why the Eagles have hired 2 former NFL QBs and another QB coach you stupid fucking dolt. So they can decide.

No one has any idea how a college QB will turn out in the NFL.

But one thing I do know for certain….that after 6 years…Sam Fitzpatrick…I mean Ryan Bradford…I mean Sam Padmystatsford has proven to be a below average NFL QB.

He stinks. And if I hear anymore about how “improved” he was over the final 7 games by throwing 10 tds (3 of which came at the end of the 4th in blowout losses) I am going to puke. Anything is better than that.

(Though as an aside, I very much wanted the Eagles to draft McNabb who I had seen play a couple times live at Syracuse and when I read that Akili Smith – the other choice if you remember – had to be taught how to run an offence using checkers)

3: “Pederson looks at the Eagles and sees a QB that set a franchise record for completion percentage in the same year his receivers led the NFL in drops!”

LOL…newsflash fucknuts. EVERY TEAM in the NFL is setting franchise records for completion in today’s NFL.

The AVERAGE completion % this year for QBs was 63.5% Bradford was middle of the pack (11th)….AND this while leading the league with 584 3 yard passes AND getting to pad those stats in a myriad of blowout losses against prevent defenses.

Must be difficult to hit 65% throwing 2 yard hooks down 38-10 with the D playing 20 back.

LOL!! Ladies and Gentleman…..Fucking Saaaaam Bradford!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

4 – But the drops!! the Drops!! The DRRRRRAAAAAWWWWWPS!!!! (Goddamn, when are you going to stop crying about that already???)

Pro football focus (I know stats) had the Eagles with 43 “drops” this year. League average was 30. So there you go….lets move the Eagles to average…..grant 13 catches to your lover bo. WOW. Scintilating. I am sure those 13 catches would have changed EVERYTHING.

5: “the fans will rightfully call for his head beginning this year…the organization will be bashed”

You want someone calling for someone’s head? Then see what happens if they drop 18 mill a year on perennial loser Sam Hoyer….I mean Brad Bradford…I mean Sam Padmystatsford who rolls out there shoulders slumped, missed his average 7.2 games to injury and “leads” the Eagles to his career average 5 wins.

THEN heads will roll. But you’ll be happy I guess. So there’s that.

Im freeing myself from the Qb debate- Thank God- I let the little people battle these types of things. Ill end my piece by saying a few parting words on the subject;

1. Ill stand by DP on his choice. Clearly the best teams have a stellar qb and I really hope DP finds who he wants. If thats Bradford…. fine by me.

2. Listening to Vinnie talk about the qb has been one of the more entertaining pieces of this blog…. does he ever get anything right?

3. I will laugh so hard if they let Bradford walk… and sign a guy like Kap,

1) Kap is under Contract for the 49ers and not going anywhere..
2) Sam Bradford’s Agent and Team has stated they are looking for $25 Million per Season per CSN Philly Sources reported last evening

3) The Franchise Tag for the QB Position in 2016 is $25.4 Million which the Eagles would never do and would take up all their Cap Space..

4) The Eagles have 12 other of their Free-Agents and 6-8 Draft Picks to Sign just to make a 53 Man Roster for 2016

5) Just look at the Salary Cap figures for the 2016 Eagles, there is no chance that Sam Bradford Returns

Lurie has already made this Decision to move forward..

Gabbert and a 2nd for Bradford would apparently be the going rate.
