Notes From The Phillies’ 6-2 Loss To Washington

The Philadelphia Phillies lost their fifth straight game on Saturday night, falling to the Nationals 6-2. Their record drops to 12-17.

On The Mound

  • Vince Velasquez got through seven innings, but allowed six runs on seven hits.
  • Velasquez allowed just two runs through the first five innings, but melted down in the fifth when he allowed the Nats to score four.
  • Mark Leiter mopped up the game with two scoreless innings.

At The Plate

  • The offense managed just two runs on eight hits.
  • Cameron Rupp drove in both runs, and hit a solo homer in the seventh.
  • Cesar Hernandez went 2-4 with a couple of singles.
  • Brock Stassi got a start in left, and went 0-2 with two walks.
  • Odubel Herrera and Maikel Franco combined to go 0-6.
  • Tommy Joseph went 2-4 with a pair of base hits.
  • Michael Saunders went 0-4.
  • Freddy Galvis went 1-3 with a walk.

Final Thoughts

Another underwhelming effort.

Just a short time ago, the Phils were two games above .500 on a six-game winning streak. Now they’ve sunk five games below the .500 mark.
