Notes From The Phillies’ 3-1 Win Over Atlanta

The Philadelphia Phillies won their fourth straight game on Tuesday night, taking down the Braves 3-1. Their record improves to 21-35.

On The Mound

  • Aaron Nola anchored the team with eight strong innings, allowing just one run on five hits and a walk while striking out six.
  • Hector Neris got one out in the ninth, but allowed two hits.
  • Pat Neshek was put into the game to relieve Neris, and the veteran picked up the final two outs and the save.
  • Neshek has had an incredible season for the Phils, allowing runs in just one of his 24 appearances.

At The Plate

  • The offense managed three runs on nine hits.
  • Odubel Herrera went 1-4, with a double and an RBI.
  • Howie Kendrick had a strong night, going 3-4 with a solo home run.
  • Cesar Hernandez went 1-4 with a double.
  • Aaron Altherr went 1-4 with a single.
  • Maikel Franco went 0-4, dropping his average to .218.
  • Cameron Rupp also turned in an 0-4.
  • Freddy Galvis went 2-3 with a pair of singles.

Final Thoughts

Aaron Nola continues to be a puzzling case. On Tuesday, we saw the elite form that made him a top prospect, but this has been too far and few between.

If Nola could ever consistently harness the form he had in this game, it’d go a long way towards solidifying the team’s rotation. But the way his career’s been, you’d almost completely expect him to come out in his next start and allow four runs over five innings.
