Notes From The Phillies’ 5-2 Win Over San Francisco

The Philadelphia Phillies won their second straight game on Sunday afternoon, taking down the Giants 5-2. Their record improves to 45-77.

On The Mound

  • Ben Lively returned from the minor leagues, and turned in a solid outing, allowing just two runs on six hits over six innings.
  • Adam Morgan threw a scoreless seventh.
  • Luis Garcia got the first two outs of the eighth, and Hoby Milner attempted to finish the frame, but couldn’t get the final out.
  • The team turned to Hector Neris for a four-out save. Neris loaded the bases in the eighth, but got out of the jam. Neris came back and got through the ninth without giving up a run.

At The Plate

  • The offense put five runs on 13 hits.
  • 30-year old Pedro Florimon came up with two doubles and drove in three of the team’s runs.
  • Jorge Alfaro went 1-4 with a single and drove in a run.
  • Rhys Hoskins homered again, launching a solo shot in the ninth.
  • Cesar Hernandez went 0-5 at the top of the order.
  • Freddy Galvis also went 0-5.
  • Maikel Franco had a rare multi-hit game, going 2-5 with a couple of singles.
  • Nick Williams went 2-4 with a couple of singles.
  • Cameron Perkins went 1-4 with a double.
  • Ben Lively picked up a base hit in one of his two at-bats.
  • Hyunn Soo Kim had a pinch-hit single.

Final Thoughts

Its about time that Ben Lively received a chance to return from the minors.

I wasn’t sure why the team returned Lively to the minors in the first place. I thought he had pitched much more effectively than Nick Pivetta, and certainly Zach Eflin had no business getting another shot before Lively.

Sure enough, Lively responded with another solid start. Hopefully he’s here to stay for the rest of the season.
