The Philadelphia Phillies lost the first of their Tuesday doubleheader with the Marlins, falling 12-8. Their record drops 45-78.
On The Mound
- Aaron Nola had second straight poor stat line, allowing seven runs on nine hits over 6.1 innings.
- Nola’s day wasn’t all bad. He allowed two runs in the first two innings, but settled down for four scoreless before the roof caved in on him in the seventh.
- Jesen Therrien relieved Nola, and didn’t do anything to stop the bleeding, allowing two runs of his own to score.
- Ricardo Pinto struggled through the final two innings, giving up three runs.
At The Plate
- The offense put up six runs on seven hits.
- Rhys Hoskins launched another home run, a two-run shot in the first inning. Hoskins finished 1-4.
- Cameron Rupp hit a solo shot in the fifth that gave the Phillies the lead.
- Cesar Hernandez went 1-5 with a solo homer.
- Freddy Galvis went 0-4.
- Nick Williams went 0-2 with two walks.
- Tommy Joseph was back in the lineup after two games on the bench, and went 2-4 with a double and a garbage time home run.
- Hyunn Soo Kim started in the outfield and went 2-4 with a couple of singles.
- Maikel Franco went 0-3, but drove in a run.
- Andres Blanco had a pinch-hit two-run homer in the ninth.
Final Thoughts
Aaron Nola has come down to earth a bit in his last two starts.
His ERA, which was about to drop into the 2.00’s has shot back up into the 3.50’s. I wouldn’t be too concerned by these last two outings, Nola was bound to peak for a little bit after pitching as well as he has over the last few months.
