Wentz Waits, Foles Sits & Pederson Prepares Team For 1st Game

Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles didn’t practice today because of upper body soreness.  He said it wasn’t a specific area, but throughout his upper body he had the soreness from practicing during training camp in the National Football League. Foles answered a bevy of questions after practice this morning.

Carson Wentz did practice and I saw him hook up with rookie Dallas Goedert in the red zone on a corner route against Eagles cornerback Jalen Mills on a red zone play.  Goedert was able to get good separation from Mills, in fact he made it look easy on the touchdown catch.  After practice Wentz let the media know that he sees big things ahead for Goedert.

Wentz said he’s confident he will be ready to play whether he takes any plays in the preseason or not.  The third-year signal caller hasn’t practiced during 11-on-11 sessions, but he doesn’t think it’s going to be a big deal when he does.  He’s eager to get the chance to show that he’s all the way back to full health, but he must wait until the team’s doctors give him the go ahead. Until then he will have to be patient and wait.

It seems like every time I see the Eagles practice, I come away talking about how potent they’re going to be at the tight end position with Zach Ertz and Goedert.

Eagles head coach Doug Pederson talked about the contract extension both he and Howie Roseman received from Jeffrey Lurie and the Eagles organization.  He believes the extension will add to the probability that the Birds will be in playoffs and therefore in contention, while he and Roseman are at the reigns.

With Foles ailing and Wentz on ice, it looks like backup Nick Sudfeld is going to get a lot of playing time in the battle against the Steelers on Thursday night.  The talented young Sudfeld has made quite a few impressive throws during the practices, but we’ll wait to see what happens in a game.  If continues to play well, it could open the door at some point for the Birds to trade Foles to a team that has their starting quarterback sustain a season-ending injury.  The Eagles could steal a top draft pick with that type of move.
