During his news conference, Andy Reid made it clear that Quintin Mikell has a secured himself a starting safety position for the ballclub. Reid said that Mikell had been playing at a Pro Bowl level.
That's strong praise for a guy who had been a career special teamer but his play has spoken loudly for him. I don't know that I would agree with Reid that it has been at a Pro Bowl level because he hasn't been involved in many turnovers. The marquee safeties in the NFL force turnovers. I think Mikell has been solid but I can't say he has played on a Pro Bowl level.
Reid statement does say that Quintin has secured himself a place in the starting lineup.
Reid singled out J.R. Reed as well. Reed did prove that he can be a solid backup because he does play with a physical style. The injury to his foot has taken away some of his speed and agility, so I don't think he'll ever get back to level he was as a kick returner.
