The Eagles are practicing right now and veteran running back Darren Sproles is still nursing his hamstring injury and not practicing. Second-year running back Corey Clement is not practicing and nursing a quad injury. Fletcher Cox, Alshon Jeffery and Derek Barnett are also missing practice. The fact that Sproles and Clement aren’t practicing factors into the following story.

Jason LaConfora of CBS-Sports reports that the Eagles are interested in trying to acquire Pittsburgh’s All-Pro running back Le’Veon Bell, who has been holding out throughout training camp, the preseason and the first four games of the season. The Eagles’ running game has been effective when utilized, but a number of our running backs have been battling injuries as I pointed out in the first paragraph. I didn’t mention Jay Ajayi, but he’s got a fracture in his back also. The only two running backs practicing today are Wendell Smallwood and rookie Josh Adams.
There’s no question that Bell would add tremendous playmaking ability to the Eagles backfield. He’s just as good catching the ball out of the backfield as he is taking a handoff. He could take the Eagles offense to the next level. I think he is the best all-around running back in the NFL right now and here’s what LaConfora wrote in his article today.
“And if I am the Eagles, who have been mulling the potential of a Bell trade for a while now, nothing I saw last Sunday would curb my interest. In fact, it would only heighten my desire to acquire a player of this impact given the way the defending Super Bowl champions have limped through the first quarter of the season. A year ago they stirred things up and dealt for Jay Ajayi; a Bell trade midseason this year could boost them even further.
Watching Carson Wentz get tossed around and toppled and crunched on play after play couldn’t possibly sit well with the Eagles’ brass. They have struggled to sustain much on offense – whether it was Wentz or Nick Foles under center – the offensive line looks shaky and the run game has been very hit or miss. Ajayi is a pending free agent dealing with a back issue, Alshon Jeffery was great in his return from injury – but staying healthy has long been a problem for him – and they are always ready and eager to shake things up and make bold moves.”
LaConfora thinks it would take a third round draft pick to acquire Bell.

No question hes an upgrade , and if playing for a contract , he will be super motivated. Wed need free up $$ and trade graham, foles, or any combination. Im certain as hard as smallwood has been running hes , been adequate, but hes been injury prone and he cant block . We need protect 11 , especially if goles is on the move.
Im hoping we can recuscicate this week, as the spectrum of covering minnys wide outs awaits. We couldnt get a more motivated bunch of vikings and our birds needing to bow up. Hitting them as they did in the playoffs requires a t t i t u d e. This id assume is in a 2/2 start one at home you need , post tenn.
For the right price..do it! He’s a great talent that would without question help take our offense to another level.
