I wasn't surprised at all at the announcement this morning of Washington Redskins head coach Joe Gibbs deciding to step down for the second time. Head coaching in the NFL is a very demanding profession. Plus I don't think Joe was enjoying it as much as he did the last time.
You know the fact that you have Gibbs stepping away from a team with a young developing quarterback, says that he's out of gas. He can't keep up the intensive pace, which continues to move about 11 months out of the year. The coaches get the month of June off, but other than that it's 15 and 18 hours day with no end.
I take my hat off to Joe Gibbs who I thought has always been a classy guy. I haven't stoop to a low level as a coach for his career. In addition I appreciate the fact that he has always tried to help his players develop as people. He'll probably head back to NASCAR.
