Eagles Sirianni Says They’ll Be Competition Between QB’s Wentz and Hurts

I listened to Eagles new head coach Nick Sirianni as he was interviewed by WIP’s Angelo Cataldi this morning and he wasn’t forceful about it but he did say there would be quarterback competition between Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts.

I DONT’ THINK COMPETITION IS SOMETHING WENTZ WANTS TO HEAR ABOUT.  There’s always a chance he could ask to be traded.  If Wentz were to make that demand, there’s no telling what the Eagles would do.  There’s also no way to know what exactly they would get in return.

“We’ve watched a little bit of tape to this point now,” Sirianni said as he talked about the two quarterbacks. “So we’re into that process of evaluating those players and I think we have really good talent evaluators.”

“A core value, is competition,” Sirianni exclaimed. “That’s competition every where. Everybody is going to compete. I am going to compete with [our offensive coordinator] Shane [Steichen] on things. We’re going to compete in the building with coaches. Competition is the core value that we’re going to use for every single position that we have here with the Philadelphia Eagles.”

Cataldi saw the opening so he made sure to ask the question to make it clear, “And that would include Hurts vs. Wentz. They will compete for the starting job?”

“Yeah,” Sirianni said lowly seeming to not want to commit too strongly. “Everybody in this situation competing, players, coaches, every position.”

It’s very clear after listening to the entire interview that Sirianni’s relationship with Indianapolis Colts head coach and former Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich was the key to him being chosen by the Jeffrey Lurie and Howie Roseman to be the next head coach of the Birds.  The Eagles probably wish they had been able to hang onto Reich when he was their offensive coordinator and then be able to promote him to their head coach.  Reich isn’t available so Sirianni, who was his offensive coordinator was the next best choice.

The Birds new head coach talks about how Reich, whom he considers to be a mentor, shared everything about coaching quarterbacks that he could with him.  Chances are that Sirianni will be calling Reich about coaching Wentz and how to fix him.    Carson would probably have wanted Reich coaching him rather than Pederson and now Sirianni, but he’s going to need to work with what he’s got.   The Eagles are hoping that Reich’s schooling of Sirianni will allow the Birds new head coach to resurrect Wentz’ career and have him playing on the level he did in 2017.

Sirianni could also be a great help to Hurts, who showed us all that he has tremendous potential.  The former Alabama and Oklahoma star seems to have a better connection with his receivers.  He made deep throws, back shoulder throws to the receivers that we didn’t get from Wentz.  If they do compete for the starting job, it’s going to be very exciting.

I am sure Carson Wints will be pouting about that. According to Adam Schefter and Chris Mortenson Wentz is not interested in being a backup.

Wentz never tweeted or said anything about Doug Pederson..Did not thank him or anything

He has not been vocal about being happy about the new coach or anything. All the signs point to him being unhappy with the reports.

Trade this bum and roll with Jalen. Get what you can and move on.

Only in 2021 can silence be interpreted as being unhappy, pouting or whatever. Time will tell. I’m ready for him to move on looking for a fresh start! If hurts is a player then let’s roll with him. Given the value of the QB position it seems odd that he made it into round 2 but stranger things have happened.
I heard rumor that the Vikings were talking to SF about trading Cousins. Looks like 15 or so teams p, maybe more are looking for a better solution at QB.. crazy!

Considering that Carson has always been a welcome to Philly tweeting kind of guy…..yes its very strange. Especially when you have very credible sources stating he is not happy, and would not be upset about a trade.

Very telling. He feels off with the organization, and most likely knows his days in Philly are numbered. He did start 11-2, and we are most likely not SB Champs without his amazing 33TDs 7 int start.

On a side note…. Nick Sirianni was with Angelo Cataldi this morning, and did great on the interview.

Was not stuttering and was able to settle in on the call.

The overblown press conference was almost as bad as people saying the Eagles threw the final game of the season.

I think just take it a step at a time w/Wentz- “sources”…mean little- just let the guy breath- as for being quiet think about this… guy was MVP caliber player, something went terribly wrong, the guy who drafted him and won a SB with gets fired, he’s benched, the team drafts a QB high– that stuff impacts a player- yes he’s a prima donna- they all are! – if he’s here fix him- if he’s not lets move on , get a pick or two and win with Hurts.

He is probably the oldest 28 yr old QB in NFL history. Injuries in HS, College, and NFL I think has been his biggest problem as a pro.. not drafting Jalen Hurts.

He is not accurate, and he has to rely on the big play. On improvising and getting out of the pocket. And that part of his game has taken a huge hit, bc he is not as mobile as he was in 2017.

Back in 2016, his rookie season…A lot of people compared Carson to Alex Smith bc of how much he checked the ball down and got the ball out quickly. He started 7-0 without throwing an int until Darius Slay finally got his first pick.

He took the open man. Idk where that part of his game went. Its strange. The Peyton Manning type intellect and photogenic memory everyone talked about…does he really have that Brady work ethic? Is he watching film religiously and working on his mechanics throughout the offseason?

Health, attitude, work ethic, leadership…too many questions for Wentz. I thought at one point he was better than DeShaun Watson. Maybe it was the injuries.. Watson has had better weapons by far afterall.

Philly is too much for the North Western boy. Indy would be perfect for him

I don’t buy the “country boy in philly narrative”– but understand why some people would say it…. I just think its way overblown.
I do think the injuries have been devastating. That back injury I believe was more serious than those of us who aren’t in the room know.

Sirianna with a couple of Good Interviews Yesterday and appears to have gotten more settled with his messaging
Having Competition up and down the Roster, among the Coaches and Players and hopefully between the Coaches and the Front Office to Draft, Acquire the Type of Players that Coach Sirianna and Staff want and need
It seems to me very early on that Lurie is giving full control of shaping the Coaching Staff to Coach Sirianna and has Roseman sitting on the sidelines while the Staff is being hired and having Roseman focused on the Cap Issues and Contracts and Scout/Draft/Personnel Dept
I sense a Shift on Lurie being more involved with the Coaching directly and has Howie focused on his Part leading the Scouting/Player Personnel and improving the Contract/Salary Cap Management of the Team
It’s almost as Lurie is setting up a Direct Chain of Command Coach SIrianna to Him and Roseman to Him instead of everything funneling thru Howie to Jeff
I also think that Owner Lurie will demand that Howie cleans up this Current and Future Salary Cap mess that he’s made and gets the Team back on solid ground Salary Cap Wise as they really can’t be players this Free-Agency or possibly next Off-Season either unless they really clean up some PLayers Deals

Eagles Ranked 31st in Cap Space in 2021 with being over $50 Million Over the Project Cap in 2021
Eagles Rank Dead Last in Cap Space for 2022,2023 and 2024 already as they have so many Players who are already aging ,but will on their Books for the next few Seasons at Big Dollars (F Cox, B Brooks, L Johnson, C Wentz)
Eagles some Young Talented Players that they will be looking to Sign and Extend such as TE Goedart, RB Sanders, LB A Singleton, WR T Fulgham, OT J Mailata, J Sweat and will need to make some difficult decisions about the Short-term hit versus having longer term flexibility, Cap and Roster wise as well as getting Younger which the Team has said it would do since 2018 but has actually gotten older so now its the time to do Roster makeover aound a new Core of Players for the next 3-4-5 Years..
This New Coaching Staff with all its younger Coaches and Energy and Opportunity have little to no ties
to many of these Older, Aging, Popular Players so let Howie answer to the Fan Base and Media on why they’re gone and not part of the Future Core moving forward …
I hope Owner Lurie allows Coach SIrianna to make the moves/decisions he wants in re-shaping the Roster instead of solely relying on Howie Roseman to construct the Roster as he’s done in the past

You are truly insane!
The eagles have had like 3 down periods in Luries tenure. Each time he fired the coach, change what needed to be changed and the team came back better. There is zero reason to speculate that it won’t happen this time. They will turn the roster over make the necessary adjustments… we aren’t the lions, bengals, jets… we make the necessary adjustments, improve and get back to the playoffs. Anyone who wrings his hands and worries is just a negative nitwit

Next Tier of QB Moves around the NFL

Texans are bidding their time with D Shaun Watson as the Price will continue to rise if other established QB’s get Traded (example Goff/Stafford but Fans have to realize that the Rams gave up those 2 future First Round Draft Picks to the Lions to get Goff’s bad deal off their own Books and the Lions in essence are Paying for 2 Future 1st Round Draft Picks as they can afford the Cap hit and help them to Acquire young, Top Talent in the Draft the next
couple of Drafts as they Rebuild..

4 Teams with Unsettled QB situations will all look to make their move over the next 4-6 Weeks before the Start of the new NFL Calender and Free-Agency and where many Roster Bonuses are Due
Vikings, 49ers,Colts, for sure and probably the Wahington FC, Eagles and Texans soon too..

49ers HC Shanahan has a close relationship with QB Kirk Cousins who had career Seasons with Shanahan back in the Redskin Days , Vikings have a Tight Salary Cap and are looking for a Roster Re-Tool very similar to what the Eagles are going thru, Not a Complete Re-Build, but a major Re-Tool to get Younger and Cheaper

Could a 3 Way Deal between the Vikings, 49ers and Colts take place ?

1) QB Cousins to the 49ers (has 2 Years left at $31 Million on 2021 and $45 Million in 2022, but they could easily Restructuring his Deal by adding 2 mores Years to his Current Deal and flattening out the yearly Avg Salary)

2) QB Garappolo to the Colts (who has 2 Years left on his Deal at $24 Million each season but there’s No Guaranteed left on his original 5 Year Deal so if he doesn’t work out, the Colts hands are not tied financially and there’s no back-loaded heavy Dead $$$ associated with his Current deal)

3) Vikings get 1st Round Picks from each the 49ers (#12th Overall) and the Colts (#21st) which would then give the Vikings 3 First Round Picks in 2021 at #12,#14 & #21 and could really add to their Roster
Vikings then look to get one of this Years QB’s in the Draft as they will have the Draft ammo to move up with
the Jets at #2 or Bengals at #5 , or the Vikings can simply add a Veteran inexpensive Free-Agent QB (A Dalton or R Fitzpatrick or Cam Newton) on a Cheap 2 Year Deal and use these 3 First Rounds to rebuild their Roster with Young Talent while creating some Salary Cap for the Future

Wentz is Out and doesn’t want to return to Philly at all for many reasons,
The Eagles trying to find a Trade Partner sooner than later as Wentz’s Value continues to Sink
Rest of the NFL knows this and is not very high on his prospects of returning to anywhere near a Franchise Level playing QB for what his Salary commands .. This is going to end poorly for the Eagles who invested so much Draft Capital and Resources for Wentz but he never really worked out whether it was injuries, locker room ,leadership, coachability, etc, etc

HOwie/Lurie, Call the Broncos, COlts or Bears and try to make something happen before its too late and your stuck with this coddled, prima-donna, golden boy of a Franchise QB who is going to make things difficult for the Club moving forward.. Why keep a $100 Million + Player when he wants out , get rid of him even if you have to eat your ego’s and $$$ to do so.. it was Howie/Lurie’s fault in the first place for giving Wentz everything before he actually earned a damn thing …. Learn from your mistakes and move on …
The LA Rams have with Jared Goff, The Broncos and Texans did with Brock Osweiler, many Teams have with Sam Bradford, and on and on we go

“End poorly for the eagles who invested draft capital in Wentz”…. I can only assume you forgot they won a SB less than 2 years after spending that draft capital! You see the goal of draft picks, capital is to freaking win! Teams would give away years and years of draft capital to win the SB!
That’s always your weakness… because you like to play mock draft ad nauseum you don’t even recognize that the goal is to actually win during the season, not in April!
If they trade him they will get value, his stock isn’t sinking… you just have to be a miserable loser

Wetnz hasn’t Won the Eagles anything in Post-Season, It was Foles at QB who led them to their Only Super Bowl in 2017 and a follow up Playoff run on 2018 when they beat the favored Bears on the road and then lost to the Saints in the Divisional Round.. Wentz was injured and inactive and did nothing for the Team during these successes

Trades in 2016 Draft to Obtain Wentz

Eagles Trade their 13th Overall Pick to Miami Dolphins along with Starters LB K Alonso, CB B Maxwell
for the Dolphins 8th Overall Pick
Then the Eagles then send the 8th Pick along with their 3rd Round and 4th Round Picks in 2016 Draft
along with their 2017 1st Round Pick and 2018 2nd Round Pick to the Cleveland Browns for their
2nd Overall Pick of the 2016 Draft where they selected Carson Wentz

So all in all –
Traded 2 Starting Players from their Defense (Alonso and Maxwell)

Two 1st Round Draft Picks (8th Overall Selection in 2016 in a Draft that had DE Joey Bosa, CB Jalen Ramsey, OL Ronnie Stanley and DL Deforest Bruckner as perennial Pro-Bowlers
and the 12th Overall Pick in 2017 – which became QB DeShaun Watson by the way)

One 2nd Round Pick in 2017
One 3rd Round Pick in 2016
One 4th Round Pick in 2016

So 5 Draft Picks and 2 Starting Defensive Players causing them to have to go out and replace in Free-Agents or spend other Draft Capital to replace these 2 Starters

Yikes – What a Terrible Trade or Return for a QB with a Career W-L Record of 35-32-1 and No Playoff Wins ….. 1 Pro Bowl, 2 Players of the Week , 1 Player of the Month (Oct 2017)
113 Td’s to 50 Int’s is not terrible, but its not great either, as you like to see a 3 to 1 Ratio in TD to Int’s by your Franchise QB
58 Fumbles with 29 Lost Fumbles is extremely high in 68 Games
179 Sacks in 68 Games is not Good either and shows a poor pocket presence and dumb situational football over his Career

The rams traded away 2 ones and a three AND a QB who has one 42 games the last 3 years AND started in the SB for a guy they believe gives them a slightly better chance than the guy that already did it! That’s investing capital! They believed the edge Stanford gives will get them a SB…AND Stafford is a a 12 year vet with zero playoff wins! Goff has 3 wins in 4 seasons…. last four seasons he’s 42-20!!
So much for draft capital… means ZERO

Rams sent the Lions those 2 First Round Picks to take the $100 Million in Guaranteed $$$ off their Books and not what they feel Stafford will bring them, but more of freed up Salary Cap Situation for the next 3-4 Years
Just like Houston Texans did when they Traded Brock Osweiler and a 2nd Round Pick
to the Browns to take his $60 Million Contract off their Hands..

Latest Rumor now has Carson Wentz along with the Eagles 3rd Round Pick (#70 Overall) being sent to the Chicago Bears for Nick Foles … and the Eagles agree to pay Wentz his $10 Million Roster Bonus for March as Trade will be announced afterwards

How much Draft Capital did the Eagles Trade to acquire Wentz in the first place , What a collasol Failure

Re Draft Picks – Many Teams don’t value late round 1st Round Picks as a huge deal in Roster Building
Teams like the Rams, Seahawks, Patriots,Ravens, and are always looking to trade back or out of the first Round completely s to acquire multiple, cheaper Picks and Players which over the long run, actually save the Team Money as there’s no Rookie 5th Year Option to be handcuffed with like the Eagles presently are with D Barnett and as they were with N Agholor

After about the 15 Selection in the First Round, Picks from 16th thru about 40’s is not that big of difference on the Talent Level then you drop again from 50 thru 100 and so on

Wentz didn’t win the Super Bowl for the 2017 Eagles.. How Many times do we have to say this..
His Season was over the first week of December and the Team was lead by Nick Foles for their
last 6-7 Games including the Playoffs and were a different Team by January/February
2 Months is an eternity in Football and yes Wentz helped them get Home Field Advantage for the Playoffs but Foles and others Players still led the Team as an Underdog in every Playoff Game while Wentz was on the sidelines as was Jason Peters,Darren Sproles, Jordan Hicks, Chris Maragos, Caleb Sturgis who were also injured and were not playing during this miracle run, did any of these Injured Players lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl Victory ?

So a very simple question…do you think JAX would trade the number one overall pic for three playoffs and one SB victory in the next 5 years? The answer is obvious.
The eagles traded for Wentz, he was a huge member of their 5 year success… the browns drafted some guys… a browns website unfolded the twists and turns from the trade. The browns ended up with a guy named Jordan Elliott, Beckham and Denzel ward as a result of trades etc…. ward is good.. still only one playoff win in the five years since the trade… eagles win HUGE

Here is one thing we know without a doubt…The Eagles are not Super Bowl Champs without drafting Carson Wentz. He led the charge in 2017 and locked up home field.

He did not play in the Super Bowl, and we do not know if he would have won it. (He most likely gets there and beats ATLANTA and Minny at home). But we do not know if Foles goes 11-2 and is on pace to throw 40 TDs.

The Eagles would not go back in time and do it any other way.

2018 – Injuries to the secondary, ravaged at the RB position as well. Defense is playing terrible football bc of it. Then the D starts to get healthy, and Foles comes in after the Eagles pick up CreVon, who balls out, and Maddox and Rasul stepped up as the season went on. Foles takes the team on a playoff run bc of it.

2019 – Even more injuries. This time at WR where our QB is throwing to nobody the whole season basically. Still beats Dallas and makes playoffs at 9-7. Easily could have had 10 wins or more if Nelson does not drop a layup at Det and Atlanta.

2020 – Record breaking injuries, making 2018 & 2019 look like healthy seasons. Breaking an NFL record 14/16 different OL Combinations. DeSean hurt again, Alshon hurt and rusty. Jalen and Ertz and Dallas G all get hurt. Rodney Mcleod, Maddox all miss significant time.

Wentz was right about one thing. After the SF win he says “Yeah….you cant really make it up.” referring to the amount of injuries facing the team.

Its not the age.. plenty of young guys are getting hurt also.

Injuries destroyed this team since Super Bowl 52.. Everyone has them absolutely. Seattle lost there whole backfield in week 17 or some shit… But not like this…3 years in a row.

Thats the one thing I hope changes under this new staff… Stay RELATIVELY healthy.

Wentz play in 2017 had little to do with the Teams Super Bowl Run…
Home Field meant little as Eagles were Underdogs in both Home Games, so what did the #1 Seed
really mean ??

Eagles were 10-2 in the Games Wentz Started and Finished p to that Rams Game and played a very high, mvp level for most of this Season

Nice Foles came in and went Undefeated for the Rest of the 2017 Season (3-0) and actually brought the Eagles back to Win that Game versus the Rams and then went on to beat the Giants/Raiders and All 3 playoff Games to finish at 6-0 for 2017 including the Super Bowl…
(The Only Game in 2017 that Foles didn’t win was the Season finale versus the Cowboys where Nate Sudfeld Played as Eagles rested up their Starters for the Playoffs)

If you Don’t Play, You cannot impact your Teams Success from standing on the Sidelines
Sorry to say, Wentz had zippo to do with the Eagles Super Bowl Run or the Playoff Win versus the Bears in 2018 as he wasn’t suited up and didn’t Play .. How Could He when he was Injured ?

My point is….Wentz very well could bounce back in 2021. He is only 28 after all. He has to look in the mirror and hold himself accountable. Does he want to put in Kobe type work ethic? Does he put in the work in the offseason

Or are the injuries, money, and birth of his first daughter all playing games in his head?

I would not be bad if he stays at all.. The dude is freakish talented.

My bet is, he goes to Bears, Broncos, or Colts.

Trade him for Foles. Let Foles mentor the young kid Hurts.

Wentz can bounce back for sure, but not In Philadelphia under these circumstances, He’s just not mentally strong enough nor has the desire or heart to Play in the tough market that is Philadelphia..
Move him while you can get anything in return and clear his Toxic Contract so this dark cloud doesn’t hang over the Organization the next 2-3 Seasons with a new Coaching Staff and suck the life out of the Club
Rebuild the Roster and build for the Future which does not include Wentz

Wentz Freakishly Talented ?
I beg to differ big time, His weight ballooned up to 245-250lbs last year, he’s lost whatever explosion he had
since his Torn ACL back in 2017 and has never been the same.. While he has a Strong Arm, he really never has been a great deep ball passer nor is he’s very inaccurate when it comes to the shorter/intermediate routes….

That Draft Class of 2016 was way overrated and both Goff/Wentz rose up the Draft Board by default
Look at the other QB’s Selection in the Top 2-3 Rounds
Paxton Lynch, Christian Hackenburg, Cody Kessler, Jacoby Brisset, Cardale Jones and Connor Cook..
Only Dak Prescott from this QB Draft Class has been consistent and improved his Game each and every year,
is it Coaching ? Desire, Drive, the System he plays in ? But Prescott has been much more dynamic that Goff or Wentz or any QB from the 2016 and both Goff/Wentz play for very QB Friendly Coaches and Systems and it still didn’t work out very well for either Player
Rams went to the Super Bowl on the legs of RB Todd Gurley who had a monster Season in 2018
Eagles went to the Super Bowl on the Arm of Nick Foles and great play by many unsung Heroes on that Team
like J Ajayi, L Blount, C Clemens, A Jeffrtey, Z Ertz and even N Agholor had a nice Playoff Run while the Defensive Line of Graham, Long,Barnett, Curry, Cox and Company were playing at a very high level

Eagles made Playoffs 3 of the last 5 Years which Doug Pederson was Coach (2017/2018/2019) and Wentz has been on the Team as the #2 Overall Pick of the 2016 Draft
Back-UP QB nick Foles lead the Team to finish up the 2017 and 2018 Seasons and in the PLayoffs for their Super Bowl Run and 1 Playoff Victory in 2018
Wentz led the Eagles for their 2019 Playoff Season only when they Finished 9-7 and He went out with a Head Injury early in the Playoff Game vs Seattle
Wentz has never Won or even completed a Playoff Game in his 5 Year Career so the Success that the Eagles Post -Season in 2017 and 2018 was due to the Players who actually Played the Games which was Nick Foles.. Wentz had Zippo to do with anything in 2017/2018 as he didn’t play the last 4-5-6 Weeks of those Seasons

So the Eagles Trade 5 Premium Draft Picks in the 1st and 2nd Rounds plus 2 Defensive Starters that needed Team resources to be replaced and all are Traded for Wentz and he has this to show for in his 5 Years in the NFL…. 1 Playoff Season at 9-7 and bounced right out ..Stinko !! Over-Rated !!

With havin so much content and articles do you ever run into any problems of plagorism or copyright infringement? My site has a lot of completely unique content I’ve either written myself or outsourced but it appears a lot of it is popping it up all over the web without my authorization. Do you know any solutions to help stop content from being ripped off? I’d certainly appreciate it.

In this great design of things you get an A+ with regard to effort. Where you actually confused me personally was on the specifics. As people say, details make or break the argument.. And that could not be much more correct here. Having said that, allow me reveal to you exactly what did give good results. Your text is definitely rather convincing and this is most likely why I am taking an effort to opine. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. Secondly, although I can see the jumps in logic you make, I am definitely not convinced of exactly how you seem to connect your details that produce the final result. For right now I shall subscribe to your position however hope in the future you connect the facts better.

Thanks for your post. Another point is that just being a photographer entails not only trouble in taking award-winning photographs but also hardships in getting the best camera suited to your needs and most especially situations in maintaining the standard of your camera. It is very real and clear for those photography enthusiasts that are directly into capturing the particular nature’s interesting scenes : the mountains, the actual forests, the actual wild or the seas. Going to these adventurous places surely requires a video camera that can surpass the wild’s tough settings.
