Romo And Cowboys Aren’t Mentality Tough

I told you the Cowboys were headed for trouble against the Giants.  There's no way New York was supposed to be able to stop Dallas with most of their defensive backs out with injuries.  I didn't think Tony Romo gave his big, athletic receivers a chance to make a play.

You could see that all of the attention and controversy had Romo playing tight.  It shouldn't have been the case after the Cowboys running game led by Marion Barber who had softened up the Giants defense in the first half.

What about Romo yelling at his offensive linemen after he was pressured into an incompletion. He held onto the ball much too long and suffered a crushing sack which backed the Cowboys up.

He overthrew Patrick Crayton who was open deep on the last series.  You can't overthrow a guy on the play once you see he's got his defender beat.  You've got to put enough air under the ball  so that your receiver has a chance to make the play.

I didn't think Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett did a good job of making sure to get the ball into the hands of his playmakers.   I thought a wide receiver screen might have worked because it would have let their wide outs run with the football.  I also thought he should have gone to play action passes in the 2nd half rather than drop back throws.  The Cowboys had run the ball so effectively in the first half, that they had the Giants defense set up for play action passes in the 2nd half.
