During the nineties Brett Favre was the NFL's best quarterback. He won three MVP awards and led the Packers to two Super Bowls and one NFL Championship, but the last four or five years he's been terrible. He regained his lofted performance in 2007 after getting a five year free pass.
I sat at Lincoln Financial Field and saw him throw a punt to end the Packers' season in the "4th and 26 overtime game". He threw balls up for grabs year after year and helped to fuel the demise of the Packers. For year he's been much too careless with the football but everybody has given him a free pass.
Brett threw a foolish interception to R.W. McQuarters but he fumbled in back to the Packers. He threw another deep ball up despite the fact that the receiver was standing downfield with three Giants defenders standing by him.
Yes he's always been able to fit a pass into a space that nobody else could, but his decision making has been atrocious over the years but the sports media just looked the other way. It was the "elephant in the living room", but it took new Packers coach Mike McCarthy to come in and say it. Finally I'm not the only one who remembers how many games Brett Favre has thrown a way by putting balls up for grabs.
