Ingram Could Make Outstanding Receiver Group Better

It took more than a decade to accomplish but you’ve got give the Eagles credit for the group ofreceivers they have accumulated.¬† It’s the best receiver group in the history of the franchise.

The guys outside are the key because they open up the field for the others.  The speed of  DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin force safeties to back up and that opens up things for tight end Brent Celek and slot receiver, Jason Avant.

There won’t be any secure safeties lining up comfortably against these two. Jackson had his breakout year in 2009 and is threat to take it the distance every time he touches the ball.

I am concerned about how he disappears when he’s confronted with somebody who can run with him.¬† He did next to nothing against the Broncos and Champ Bailey and he struggled against the Cowboys’ two outstanding corners.

The Eagles must get him in open field and not let teams beat up on him because that’s what they’re going to try to do against him.

Maclin is going into his second year and I expect him to make a huge jump in production if he can get the ball thrown his way enough.  His size will allow him to fight over press coverage, which will help Jackson.

Celek is one of the best young tight ends in the game.¬† He has shown he can take advantage of single coverage and that’s all he will see with Jackson and Maclin on the field.

Avant has the best hands on the team and he’s willing to catch the ball regardless of the situation.

Still having said all of the that this group could be taken up a few notches if Corneliius Ingram can become the player his potential says he can be.

Ingram missed his entire rookie season because of a ACL tear he sustained during training camp.¬† He dropped in the draft because of that knee.¬†¬† A number of teams in the league wouldn’t draft him because they thought someone had done a poor job of operating on his knee in his senior year at Florida.

He thinks he’s going to be ready to go in some of these off season camps.¬† I hope he’s right.

Ingram is faster than Celek and an inch or two taller.¬† He’s not of a blocker yet but he’s the perfect H-back, who could be walked out and teamed with Celek to destroy linebackers in pass coverage.

He and Celek could make the Birds passing game much more effective in the red zone.¬† If Ingram can become the one-on-one threat which they hope he can be, it could make this group the league’s very best.

You can be sure that Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb are salivating to work wth them.
