Eagles Host Alabama CB Arenas & Stanford RB Gerhart

According to Chris Steuber of Scout.com, the Eagles had Alabama cornerback and kick returner extraordinaire Javier Arenas in for a visit today.

They are also expected to host Stanford power back Toby Gerhart some time this week.¬† I don’t see any way the Birds pick a back like Gerhart since he’s not a proven receiver out of the backfield and they seem to shy away from big backs.

The trading of long-time cornerback Sheldon Brown has brought about speculation that the Eagles will draft a cornerback in the first second or third round of the draft.

“Arenas had an impressive 2009 season for Alabama, as he collected 71 tackles, 12 for a loss, five sacks and five interceptions.”

“He holds the SEC record with seven punt returns for a touchdown in his career, and with special teams being a valued unit, Arenas will be attractive to many teams”.

Again I say Baldinger’s an idiot and he speaks like a fanATIC, not a polished analyst. Bottom line is this, we can go back and forth all day long in April. When the games begin…when the games begin, we shall see who is good, great or overrated. Time to move on.

Arenas is a very exciting player.. Great return player for sure and probably more of a Nickle Back
as opposed to a Starter type at this stage of his developement…
I like CB’s K Wilson,D McCourtey,K Jackson,B Ghee,S Thompson and D Warren as potential Starters
by 2011 before Arenas who probably could be had in 4th/5th Round and be a good addition/value come mid-draft..

Sounds like 2 good players to me, but the question is…has either player blown out any knee ligaments???

The Eagles should stay at 24 and select Taylor Mays. Then with the 37th and a 3rd round pick, move up to get a Corner or best LB available. Then with the 55th overall pick and the other 3rd round pick, move up to get to get the other that wasn’t drafted, LB or CB. Then with the 4th, 5th, 6th, and all those 7th rounders, move up into the 3rd round and get a player that will become a starter in time.

TO Scrapdawg,
The NFL will not allow teams to trade their “Compensatory Picks” per NFL Rules,
Whatever teams get them have to use them and cannot be traded fyi…
The Eagles have 2 in the 7th Round (#243 and #244 Overall picks)

I would love to see Gerhart here. He is a monster. Bell is not a long term solution. If they don’t use their picks to trade up, they should take him.

WellWellWell… yes, Gerhart blew out a knee in 2007. The Eagles should value him extra high because of that.
