According to CSNPhilly.com’s Jim Salisbury, the Philadelphia Phillies are expected to make a decision on shortstop Jimmy Rollins by Wednesday. Rollins was diagnosed with a Grade 2 calf strain and was scheduled for an MRI today.
“Phils say they will decide Rollins status on Wed. He had MRI,” Salisbury tweets.
The Phillies most likely will wait to see the results of that MRI and then decide whether or not to place Rollins on the 15-day DL. Juan Castro most likely would take his place immediately, but the club might decide to give Triple A shortstop Wilson Valdez (every time I write his name of I think of a giant oil spill in Alaska. That just me?) a shot as well.
Hey Phillies fans, want to know how to derail an easy walk to the playoffs? This kind of stuff! No, I’m not saying that if Rollins hits the DL the team won’t make the playoffs. Not at all. But it’s little things like this that can mount up and cause major problems.
This won’t be an issue at all if they keep playing the Nationals every week for the rest of the season. I haven’t checked their schedule, but if that is indeed the case then no worries.
