McNabb Appears On ESPN’s Pardon The Interruption

Donovan McNabb appeared on ESPN’s Pardon the Interuption yesterday and was questioned by the hosts of the show, Michael Wilbon and Tony Kornheiser.

The interview lasted about five minutes which isn’t a long time for an interview.

He got the usual questions from Wilbon about why he was mistreated in Philadelphia.  He responded with a short answer in much the same way that he did at his introduction to Washington news conference.

“People still kind of question why I had to go through that all throughout my career,” McNabb said, apparently referring to the constant controversy which surrounded him in Philadelphia. “I really didn’t focus on that then and I’m definitely not focusing on it now.”

I think he should put all of the talk about Philadelphia and the Eagles in a box and keep it closed until his career is over.¬† Talking about Philadelphia and the Eagles isn’t going to do him any good now or in the near future.

Unfortunately for him, he will continue getting questions from national media types about getting poor treatment in Philly, but he should say simply, it’s time to move on.

He spouted the same line about his new coach Mike Shanahan helping John Elway win a couple of Super Bowls late in his career.

“His career is pretty similar to mine — making it to conference titles,¬†he making a little further in Super Bowls, but not winning it,”¬†McNabb said. “And people saying he’s not able to do it and he’s not able to win the big game and thinking that maybe we should draft a young guy. I guess they kind of went to their senses of staying with him.”

Of course one of the last questions he answered was about how he wanted and expected to be greeted by Philadelphia fans when he returned to play the Eagles.

“I hope I will be cheered,”¬†McNabb said. “I think the thing that I’ve been able to accomplish overweigh the feelings that some may have had.¬†I think a lot of times people focus so much on the low percentage of people that call into radio stations to vent, to feel like they need to get something off their chests, or people who want to write articles about how their neighbor is feeling or somebody at the local gym sitting in the sauna.”

This is another question which isn’t worth giving much of a answer to.¬†¬† I can guarantee him that he’s not going to be cheered here in Philadelphia when he comes back here in a Redskin’s uniform.

There may be a few cheers in the midst of the boos, but they’re going to be drowned out.

McNabb should refuse to answer any more questions about the Eagles until the Redskins are getting ready to play them.

He works for the Redskins now and it’s as simple as that.

I don’t think there will be wild enthusiasm and a standing ovation for Donovan when he comes as a Redskin, but I’ll be very disappointed if he is boo’d. Donovan was a large part of many victories over his 11 years as an Eagle and I still believe the majority of Eagle fans recognize and appreciate that fact. I expect there to be applause, though not as exuberant as for Dawkins. It’s the boo’s that will be drowned out.
