Could The Giants Try To Get Both McClain and Weatherspoon?

Everybody has taken it for granted that the New York Giants have their eyes on Alabama middle linebacker Rolando McClain, but New York may have to trade up to get him.

Yes he would be the ideal replacement for the departed Antonio Pierce, but there’s no guarantee he will be there at number 15 when the Giants pick in the first round.

They have to be concerned that the Denver Broncos who are expected to either select Dez Bryant to replace the recently traded Brandon Marshall or grab McClain to fill in the big hole they have in their defense at the middle linebacker position.

The question everyone is asking is:  Will Jerry Reese and the Giants move up in the first round in order to get their man?

He was quoted by ESPN saying,  he will not shy away from picking a player because they already appear set at that particular spot.

McClain has everything the Giants would want in a middle linebacker.¬† He’s a great leader with the size and athleticism to make all the plays on the NFL level.

The other question surrounding the Giants and the approaching draft is:¬† Will Reese use his overkill technique again to address the team’s needs at the linebacker position?

Last year the Giants needed help at the wide receiver position with Plaxico Burress no longer on the roster, so Reese used his top pick to select wide receiver Hakeem Nicks of North Carolina, but he didn’t stop there.

In round three, he drafted another wide receiver, this time 6’6″ Ramses Barden of Cal Poly.

He could attack the team’s need at the linebacker in the much the same way this year.

They could grab McClain in the first round and then try to package a pick or two and find a way to move up to get Missouri’s Sean Weatherspoon early in the second.

He’s a great player with the instincts of a playmaker.¬† This guy is always around the ball which allows him to make a tremendous amount of big plays.

If they’re not able to get Weatherspoon, they could grab Penn State’s OLB Navorro Bowman or ILB Sean Lee.¬†¬† Florida’s Brandon Spikes is another linebacker who could be had in the second round or later.

It’s not like the Giants couldn’t use the help at the linebacker position.

As far as I’m concerned, veteran outside linebacker, Michael Boley is the only linebacker on the team that’s anything worth talking about.
