Like Reese, Eagles Draft Another DE, This Time Ricky Sapp

There’s no question that I believe Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has adopted the mentality of New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese.

I agree with the mentalityof getting pressure on the quarterback because a quarterback can’t get the ball to his receivers, regardless of who he’s¬† throwing the ball to, if he can’t get time.

“You can’t get enough pass rushers” is the mindset that Reese had which catapulted the Giants to a Super Bowl championship.¬† After drafting an outstanding pass rusher, Brandon Graham,¬† in the first round, they drafted another in¬† Daniel Te’o Nesheim in the third round.

Now after adding those young pass rushing defensive ends, the Birds grabbed another pass rushing defensive end, Ricky Sapp of Clemson with a fifth round pick.

There’s a lot of thought that Sapp went much later than he should have because of a knee injury which he sustained a year ago.

I like the fact that Roseman is admitting that many times, you miss on defensive ends, so he’s getting a few of them with the hopes that he and the Eagels will hit it right on a couple of them.

I agree that you can’t play pass defense in the National Football League if you don’t pressure the quarterback.¬† It’s as simple as that.

In looking at him on video, it does seem like he is favoring it abit.  We will see if he has gotten over the injury now that a year has passed since it occurred.

I’m pleased with the draft so far. I’m amazed they haven’t taken an o-lineman. Seems like we should have drafted Bruce Campbell from Maryland given how far he fell. He was projected to go in the first rd. Anyone know why he slid so much?

Im glad the fans and the Eagles F.O. were on the same page. Our defense sucked. Now the choices haven’t really been crowd pleasing. At least they didnt draft O linemen and trade picks for next years draft. Its actually a blessing to argue over the defensive players they did pick rather than all agree they did nothing.

Love this pick..he could of been a 3rd round pick by a team that runs the 3-4…He could be a nice situational pass rusher for us and come off the edge standing up.

It would be real nice if he can convert to a LB. His size and speed would be awsome in the middle. I see him as a joker and special teamer this year though.

I wanted Ricky on this team. I think he’ll be a good Sam-backer. He’s 6’4″ and could probably get up to 260. Add that with his speed and we got ourselves a winner-winner chicken-dinner.

Both Ricky and Brandon are in the top ten in speed in the 40 at the combine. Im a little more excited at this pick than that Hawaiian dude we got in the third, if only because of his size and speed . This guy could be the best player from our draft in three years.
