News Flash: Abiamiri Is Hurt Again & Jean-Gilles Getting Serious About His Weight

There were quite a few Eagles players who were unable to fully participate in the early practice this morning.

Second-round pick Nate Allen couldn’t workout because of a quad injury.¬† Reid said the injury was prolonged because Allen continued to workout for teams prior to the draft rather than shut it down like he should have done.

Defensive end Victor Abiamiri had better wake up and find out what time it is.  Does he know they moved up 11 spots to draft at guy at his position?

Does he know they didn’t stop there but drafted another ten guys at his position? ¬† Despite that he’s watching practice while standing by the trainer.¬† Yes as usual, he was at the morning practice standing on the side.¬† His days are numbered as far as I’m concerned.

Abiamiri stays hurt.¬† He’s the kind of guy who can get hurt on the bus ride from the hotel to the stadium.¬† I don’t think he’s going to be here when the season starts.

He’s hurt so much that maybe the Eagles media office is tired of telling us that he’s hurt.

Eagles backup right guard Max Jean-Gilles didn’t workout because he underwent lap band surgery on Tuesday. It’s make me think that they must have given him an ultimatum.¬† Lose weight or we’re going to cut you.

The big fella says that he and his wife researched it before making the decision.

“They put a tube on top of your stomach to make your stomach a little smaller,” Jean-Gilles said.¬†”I talked to some friends of the family who did it. It was a big difference in their life. They feel healthy, they feel confident in themselves. The weight comes off quick.”

Jean-Gilles had been a disappointment for the Birds at the end of the season a year ago and in the playoffs.¬† He’s rumored to weigh about 375 pounds, but there have been times when it was at or over 400 pounds.

He thinks he’s going to lose 50 to 80 pounds very quickly.¬† Jean-Gilles will be ready to practice again at the end of the month of May.

Cornelius Ingram is still recovering from the knee surgery which caused him to miss his entire rookie season.  He was dressed for the practice and did do some individual work.

The recently signed Marlin Jackson missed practice for the same reason.¬† He’s recovering from the second knee surgeries in as many years.¬† Of course the Birds signed him as a free agent this off season and he’s supposed to battle for the starting free safety position.

losing that much weight that quickly can’t be good for an athlete and should effect his strength shouldn’t it?? don’t know, just asking

I would love to get one of those “lap dance” procedures. Maybe tonight..

Well…at least MJG is doing something about it…but why now? Wasn’t he overweight all offseason? And the Lap Band isn’t new science either, it’s been around for awhile. Big Red should look into it…

They should give Reid the same ultimatum. Band up or ship out. Abiamiri is a statue made of glass. Is playing Pro football one of the recommended activities for band surgery patients?

The Eagles are a wierd group of characters. Their punter is taller than any one on defense and weighs more than any of their linebackers.Jean Giles is listed at 325 and will loose 80lbs to 265? Nick Cole is 6′
and listed at 350. Does he intend to loose weight? These guys are a bunch of grossly mismanaged players. How long has Jean Giles been with the Eagles? Do players have to be with the eagles for 5 years before they get into top football shape?

Big E, I agree with you. This is a crazy team.

Greenfan, that was my first thought.

Eaglez, lap dance? Much too funny.

I never knew the Abriami project ever started… He injuries and performance mirrors one J McDougle
the big rap on him is his lack of foot speed and explosion off the ball and he’s gotten slower with that first step over the last 2 seasons when he did play.. As a DE in today’s game,if you can’t explode off the line with that 1st step or 2 and get into the backfield, you are essentially a non-inmpact player which is what V Abriami has been and unfortunately will probably always be (especially with this most recent setback)

Yup- Hate to say it because I met victor his rookie year and he was a nice kid but looks like unless the PUP or IR him his time is likely up. DE’s 1Cole,2Tapp,3Graham,4Thomas,5Teo-Neshiem. Sapp = LB/ST/part time DE. That’s likely your 5 (Abiamiri could go on the IR and replace Thomas as the bubble guy next year) DT’s 1Bunkley,2Patterson,3Dixon,4Laws(until outplayed) That would be 9 which is fine if you move TEO and Tapp/Graham inside on some 3rd downs. That gives you the space to have the extra LB (Sapp)

I know I know, Way too early for that stuff but I couldn’t help take a wild swing at it.

Opening Day Roster along D/Line (barring Injuries)
DE (6) – Cole,Graham,Tapp,Parker,Te’o & Sapp
DT (4) – Bunkley,PAtterson,Dixon and J Owens

10 is typically the # of D/L that they carry on the Squad…
Teo’ and Tapp will be used to rush from the DT positions on occassion in obvious passing situations (like D Howard was used) and Sapp will belined up all over the place.. in a 3 Pt Stance or what I would like to see is standing him up right next to T Cole and let them 2 from the right side have a race to the QB, you can stunt Sapp inside and let Cole curl around on the outside, they could both come wide to drag the Guard and RB over and then Send Bradley right up the gut… many options
