Cincinnati Enquirer columnist Joe Reedy is hearing that no one has offered much for the Bengals' Chad Johnson (I just can't get into the Ochocinco thing I'm sorry).
Specifically, Reedy says that he's hearing that no one has offered so much as a third-round pick for the disgruntled wide receiver. Everyone and their mother knows that Johnson wants out, but it doesn't seem like anyone wants him.
This makes the Bengals look even more stupid…if that's possible. They could have had two first-round picks last year for Chad, but they declined. It was more important to them to be right than to be a good team. They weren't going to let him dictate anything. And what did it get them? I'm thinking really hard and trying to remember if they won the Super Bowl last year. Did they? I'd look it up if it weren't for the fact that I tend to shun research and facts.
Ok, but seriously, it got them nowhere. They could have had two first rounders. TWO first rounders, and now it seems that they can't even get an offer of a third. This isn't similar to the Sheldon Brown situation. I don't like letting players talk their way out of town, but two first-round picks for a wide receiver that's over 27? C'mon. If the Eagles could fetch two first rounders for Sheldon, I'd say "it's been nice having you, now there is the door." And I happen to like Sheldon.
So this makes the situation more intriguing for the Birds. If Reedy is right, and I have no reason to believe he's making this up, the Eagles could snag Chad Johnson for a third round pick possibly.
That would mean that they could come away with Jason Peters, Chad Johnson, plus whoever they take with their first- and second-round picks. Wow. And the draft would just be getting started. Would you consider that a successful draft weekend?
