N.Y. Post: Cliff Lee Could Be A Yankee Before All-Star Game

Former Phillie and current Seattle Mariner Cliff Lee may be heading to New York, but thankfully he won’t be going to the division-rival Mets.¬† His destination will be across town.

The New York Post is reporting that Lee could be a Yankee before the weekend is over. The Yankees are in Seattle this weekend and the paper is reporting that Lee could be wearing the pink stripes before the Bronx Bombers leave.

Now if the Phils are able to get their rematch in the World Series against the Yankees, the guy who started the two games they won will be pitching for New York this time.

Lee who was nearly perfect in the playoffs and World Series last year for the Phils.¬† This year he’s been outstanding for Seattle with a 8-3¬† record, 2.34 ERA and one of the best strike/walk ratio ever, 89 strikeouts to only six walks.

He’s the most coveted pitcher in this year’s pre-trading deadline shopping.¬† There was a report earlier this off season that the Phillies even inquired about Lee’s availability even though they never really seriously considered re-acquiring him.

This morning in the New York paper the following paragraph appeared.

“Yankees GM Brian Cashman and Seattle GM Jack Zduriencik have been in constant contact over the past week, but it was only last night that the Seattle GM told Yankees officials he wanted to move quickly, possibly before the All-Star break, which begins Monday.”

Lee will be joining a staff which already includes C.C. Sabbathia, Andy Pettitte, A.J. Burnett, Javier Vazquez and Phil Hughes.

this will suck.

Jack McCaffery had a good article this morning in the Delco Times listing the Lee trade with Seattle as the worst in Philly history.

I guess the only consolation is that it wouldn’t be the Mets, but it still sucks.

your right…here I am thinking that is a good thing and it could actually be worse if the Mets end up getting him. This trade is going to haunt amaro forever, regardless of anything that ever happens, people will never forget how he screwed up this team.

And who did we get for Lee again . thanks Rueben !!!!Trade Werth and that bum 125million dollar man and world series strike out record holder ,Howard for Lee now !!!! and don’t give me that Howards batting average and RBI’s are up because he is just like Mike Schmidt was he didn’t hit when we need them !!! He hits them when they score 8,12 runs a game ,but strikes out almost every time in key situations !!!

I say trade C Utley to San Diego for Closer Heath Bell and Pitching prospects
Then trade Closer B Lidge to the Detroit Tigers for 3B B Inge
Move Inge to 3B and Polanco To 2B and have H Bell as your Closer
Resign Werth with $$$ saved by trading Utley

Hey poop, lay off Howard. You site Schmidt, but didn’t you learn anything from his career at all?

I will take a HOF career from Howard, no problem.
