Jon Runyan Is Signed By The San Diego Chagers

Runyan playing at right tackleFormer Eagles Jon Runyan has signed with the San Diego Chargers to take over at their right tackle position.

The Chargers flew Runyan out for a workout yesterday and sealed the deal with him last night.  He’ll have a couple of weeks to learn the system then he’ll step in as the starter.

San Diego needed an offensive tackle because starter Jeromey Clary suffered some ligament damage to his left ankle.  It was so severe they had to put him on injured reserve.

For the next couple of games, Brandyn Dombrowski will start for at least the next two games while Runyan learns the system.

Runyan in his stanceThe Eagles said good bye to Big Jon after last season and the veteran offensive tackle had off season microfracture surgery on one of his knees.  A lot of people thought he career was over but he let everybody know that he still wanted to play.

He could play but chances are it wasn’t going to be in Philadelphia.

At the start of this season, the Eagles had Shawn Andrews penciled in as the starter at right tackle, but that didn’t work out.

Former second round draft pick Winston Justice took advantage of the situation and stepped in and proved he could play the position.

Ironically, Justice signed a four-year extension on the same day that their former right tackle was signed by another team in the league.
