Buddy Ryan's first draft pick and Heisman Trophy runner up Keith Byars wasn't surprised that the Eagles drafted Houston's Kevin Kolb.
He says Donovan McNabb has been hurt three of the last five years and it was understandable that the team was unwilling to get caught without another option at such a key position. He said, "it wasn't personal just business."
Keith says that McNabb has to stay away from putting himself in positions to get injured. He believes the Eagles need to help by not asking him to carry the team's offense. He doesn't feel the Birds should throw the ball so much that they put Donovan is vulnerable positions. Byars feels McNabb would have been hurt more were it not for his big body. According to Byars, "he's taken a lot of tough shots".
Keith believes a consistent and versatile running game will take some of the pressure off of Donovan. He doesn't expect McNabb to be as mobile as has been in the past. He wanted the Birds to draft Troy Smith out of his alma mater, Ohio State, to backup Donovan and then eventually take over.
Keith isn't sold on Penn State's Tony Hunt or backup running back Correll Buckhalter and he would have liked to see the Birds grab a big back earlier in the draft. Keith says he loves what the Saints have put together in their combo of two top level backs in Reggie Bush and Deuce McCallister. According to Keith, they can't continue to ask Brian Westbrook to pound the ball up inside with the regularity you need to have in an all-around running game. He believes if they pound him up in there too much, it's going to shorten his career and reduce his effectiveness. Keith was really strong in his belief that they should have two starter quality backs to rotate in there.
He also pointed out Josephy Addai and Dominic Rhodes and they way they led the Colts to the Super Bowl Championship with stellar performances throughout the playoffs. He felt their playoffs and Super Bowl performances were superior to Manning. The media always want to make the right story line. Peyton Manning wasn't this year's Super Bowl MVP. Brady wasn't Super Bowl MVP in the game against the Rams
Keith believes the Eagles should have little trouble winning the NFC East again. They're still much better than the rest of the teams in the NFC East. The Birds should be thinking about preparing a team to beat that tough AFC if they get to the Super Bowl.
Dallas – Byars says he was more surprised when his former coach Bill Parcells took the Cowboys head coaching job than when he left. Kieth didn't feel Parcells could be himself with a Jerry Jones-type of owner who's meddling and making decisions. He said he could tell that Bill didn't want Terrell Owens when he missed the news conference introducing him. According to Byars, there was nothing Bill could do. Parcells would not have let him on the team. This guy Owens is a coach and team killer, who has to be one of the most egotistical guys I've ever seen. How many times can you throw him the ball? They were throwing him the ball constantly and he was dropping too many of them. Despite that he was still complaining about not getting ball enough.
I think everybody has Tony Romo overrated. He had one good month and it was overhyped. I've seen many quarterbacks come out and play well then bomb. Do you remember Bobby Hoying? It seemed tjhat teams got a look at him, then he fell apart. Romo got to the Pro Bowl off of that one month because without McNabb being healthy, there aren't any other really quality quarterbacks in the NFC. I want to see him play well, now that everybody has a book on him.
Washington didn't do anything to improve because they needed help on the defensive line. They broke a record by registering the fewest number of sacks in a 16 game season. I heard their safeties and cornerbacks have different coaches. That's stupid because those positions have to work together and be on the same page.
As long as the Giants have Eli Manning they never do anything. That was blood line pick. Archie's and Peyton's career are the reasons he was picked first in the draft. He should have gone into another line of business.
Brady Quinn didn't play good in big games. Quinn went where he should have gone. I dont' think he's going to be anything special.
Youi're supposed to get off against Army, Navy.
He believes Jeff Garcia will win the starting job but struggle like he did in Detroit and Cleveland. Chris Simms never played well in a big game.
Pacman Jones doesn't have any friends. Friends don't let you pull $81,000 out of your pocket and throw it away. A good friend won't even let you walk around with $81,000 cash. He made a decision to choose his friends over the NFL. He said, "if it comes down to being with my friends or playing in the NFL, I'm not going to leave my friends". Maybe they'll go to jail with him.
Why has there been all of this drunk driving? Why don't they get a driver? Why don't they get a cab? Maybe a chauffeur-driven limousine is the answer? The Bengals have lost their minds.
NBA – Kobe sees what it's like to not have the help needed for a championship. He misses Shaq now. Michael Jordan is the only one to win a championship without a center. Michael was about winning. Kobe has never been about winning as much as scoring. He's never even been an MVP. Dallas was plays outside in rather inside out and that's why they got eliminated.
Rasheed Wallace should get down in the paint and stop shooting three pointers. Saunders has never won anything.
I like the efforts you have put in this, thank you for all the great content.
