Injury Bug Hits Eagles Camp But None Of The Damage Is Severe

Injuries are important in all sports but even moreso in NFL football because injuries are a surety.¬† They’re going to happen, it’s just a matter of how many are there going to be, which players go down, how much time will they miss and how many players sustain injuries.

The injury bug has bitten the Eagles training camp quite early, but thankfully it hasn’t been severe because none of the injuries are regarded as serious.

Stewart Bradley missed today’s practice because he was having hamstring spasms.¬† He’s expected back soon.¬† I’m not surprised to Bradley go down with a leg injury because a knee injury, ankle injury or any other type of leg injury that sidelines a player makes that player vulnerable to other leg injuries.

Inactivity makes all of the parts of the body vulnerable to injury.¬† Bradley worked extremely hard during the off season to get where he’s at right now.¬† Hopefully that hard work will help the middle linebacker stay healthy.

“For me, I’ve been clear with the knee for so many months now, it doesn’t really feel like an issue in my mind,” Bradley said immediately after his first practice.”I’ve been running and done so much speedwork that I feel like I kind of had a normal offseason prep. I feel as good as I ever have.”

Wide receiver DeSean Jackson missed the practice yesterday because of the back injury he sustained the day before.¬† He’s expected back in a day or two.¬† Word is that he’s dealing with back spasms.

Defensive back Asante Samuel and running back Mike Bell went down yesterday with hamstring strains.¬† Bell’s injury looked more severe than Samuel, but the running back thinks he’ll be back on the field in a short period of time.

The Eagles will be pleased if they stay away from any serious ankle or knee injuries, which are capable of shutting a player down for the entire season.¬† Injuries which take a player out of the training camp workouts but makes them available for the season aren’t much of a problem.

These are probably just injuries because their bodies have to get used to the contact again. I don’t mind the little “tweaks” this early in camp but I am concerned if some players missed significant practice time. It’s important to start the season strong and we don’t want to get off to a slow start because guys couldn’t practice that much because of injuries. Hopefully, these tweaks go away and don’t come back.
