Eagles Should Go Get Gonzalez

Tony Gonzalez should be a target for the Birds.  Yesterday he told Yahoo's Jason Cole, "I don’t care about being good. I want to be great. I want to win a Super Bowl.”

Being that Donovan McNabb is going to be back for two or three season at the least, the Eagles should focus on going after a Super Bowl championship and forget that let's stay competitive garbage.

Here's what Gonzalez had to say to Cole.

“I want to see who they name as head coach,” Gonzalez said. “Yeah, I hear they’re talking to Todd Haley, but then there’s this coach [Ferentz] from Iowa State, some [expletive] like that and I don’t want to deal with that. It seems like we’re rebuilding anyway, and I don’t want to do that. I don’t know that I want to do that any more than I already have been.”

“I love Kansas City. I really do. If I could stay there, I would. That’s why this is going to be a tough decision,” Gonzalez said. “We’ve been rebuilding. It hasn’t really seemed to go well. We won four [in 2007] and two this year. It’s getting tough. … I don’t want to make it seem to the fans in Kansas City and to my teammates that I’m abandoning them. I hope, I think, they’ll understand.”

This is a roundabout way of saying he's ready to be traded.

The guy caught 96 passes for 1058 yards and 10 touchdowns.  He's made the Pro Bowl in 10 consecutive seasons and is getting ready to turn 33 later this month.

The Eagles aren't going to be able to find a draft pick who can come in here and give them what they need immediately.  if you add Gonzalez to the current wide receiver group it makes them much better.

This guy gets the job done in the red zone which is what the Eagles are desperately in need of. We need him to be dunking the ball over the goalposts at Lincoln Financial Field.

Reid and his staff are in Hawaii for the Pro Bowl and that puts them in great position to get things started.  They should begin the courtship now to get this guy here ASAP>
